Why go
Ubud combines Balinese arts, temple ceremonies and rice terraces, and it deserves two days. Stay just outside the busy centre for quiet.
Uluwatu has dramatic limestone cliffs and a sunset Kecak performance at the temple. Book Kecak tickets early.
Nusa Penida offers cliffs, offshore viewpoints and snorkelling, reached by boat from Sanur. Travellers say famous viewpoints get crowded, so allow two days and keep plans light.
Mount Batur gives a pre-dawn summit hike with sunrise over Lake Batur. The climb is steep, and weather can hide the view.
Seminyak has Bali's best concentration of design-led resorts, restaurants and beach clubs. Travellers report that Indian and vegetarian food is available here, as well as in Sanur and Ubud.
These months are Bali's dry stretch, and August is driest at just 35 mm of rain. May, June and September are less crowded than July and August.
Find your kind of trip
Honeymoon couples get Ubud and Seminyak in one trip. Ubud offers rice terraces, temple ceremonies and wellness stays. Seminyak adds design-led resorts, beach clubs and sunset dining. Then add Uluwatu's limestone cliffs and the sunset Kecak performance at its temple.
See packagesFamily trips work best around Nusa Dua and Sanur. Nusa Dua has calm, maintained beaches and resort facilities. Sanur is calmer still and the launch point for boats to Nusa Penida. Ubud adds rice terraces and temple ceremonies for culture.

Season guide
The best time to visit Bali is May to September, when monthly rainfall stays between 35 mm and 75 mm. May, June and September work best. They are dry, reach highs of 29–30°C and draw fewer visitors than July–August. Avoid July and August if you dislike crowds and peak pricing. August is the driest month at 35 mm, but also the busiest. Avoid December to February, when rain runs 270–340 mm a month. December also brings high demand and elevated prices around Christmas–New Year.
Day by day
Based on our Bali Essentials 5N package. Your trip expert can stretch or shorten any day.
Land at Denpasar airport and meet your driver. Transfer to your hotel in Kuta, which is close to the airport. Check in and rest after the journey. In the evening, walk to Kuta beach for the sunset. Kuta is lively after dark, so choose a relaxed dinner or an early night. Your sightseeing starts tomorrow.
Spend the morning at your own pace in Kuta. Swim, shop or rest at the hotel. In the afternoon, your driver takes you south to Uluwatu. Walk along the limestone cliffs and look down at the surf. Stay for the sunset Kecak performance at the temple. Roads are slow at that hour, so you return to Kuta late in the evening.
Check out after breakfast and drive north to Ubud. Traffic is heavy on this route, so expect the transfer to take a good part of the morning. Check in to your hotel and rest. In the afternoon, explore Ubud, the centre of Balinese arts and temple life. Walk its lanes and see the rice terraces near the town. You stay here for three nights.
Wake well before dawn for the drive to Mount Batur. Climb the steep path to the summit and watch the sun rise over Lake Batur and the volcanic land. Cloud can hide the view, so sunrise is not guaranteed. Return to Ubud and rest for the day. Skip the climb if you prefer a gentler morning in town.
Today has no fixed plan, so you can recover from the early hike. Visit a temple, browse the arts and craft shops, or book a spa session at your own cost. Walk through Ubud's lanes and stop for a long lunch. Ubud centre gets crowded, so go out early or late for a calmer feel. Enjoy a quiet last evening.
Have breakfast and check out of your hotel. Your driver takes you to Denpasar airport for your flight home. Bali traffic can be slow, so the road from Ubud takes longer than the map suggests. Leave early to keep a comfortable buffer before check-in. Your Bali holiday ends here.
