3-Day Bali Itinerary

Quick answer

A 3-day Bali itinerary covers a southern beach sunset, an Ubud temple and rice-terrace circuit, and Uluwatu with the Kecak performance before departure. It is a tight plan, so it skips Nusa Penida, northern Bali and Mount Batur. Five days or more is a more comfortable first trip.

Facts checked 2 Nov 2026

Pale limestone cliffs at Uluwatu drop to blue ocean swells under a clear dry-season sky, with scrub in the foreground.

Day-by-day itinerary

Based on a 6-night package

  1. Day1

    Arrival and Seminyak sunset

Arrive at Denpasar airport and meet your driver for the transfer to Seminyak. Check in to your hotel and rest after the journey. Later, walk to the beach for sunset. Seminyak has many restaurants, including Indian options, so dinner is easy to find. Keep the evening free, as the next day begins with a road transfer to Ubud.

    SeminyakBreakfastNight in Seminyak
  2. Day2

Drive to Ubud and culture day

After breakfast, drive inland to Ubud. Traffic can be slow, so you leave early. Spend the day on Balinese arts, temple ceremonies and rice terraces. Your driver takes you between stops at an easy pace. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon. Keep the evening free to walk around and have dinner.

    UbudBreakfastNight in Ubud
  3. Day3

    Mount Batur sunrise hike

Wake before dawn for the Mount Batur hike. The climb is steep and starts in the dark. At the top, you look over Lake Batur and the volcanic landscape as the sun rises. Cloud can hide the view, so the sunrise is never guaranteed. Return to Ubud for breakfast and rest. Spend the afternoon at leisure.

    Mount Batur, UbudBreakfastNight in Ubud
  4. Day4

    Move to calm Sanur

Check out of your Ubud hotel and drive to Sanur. The transfer is shorter than the airport run. Sanur has a calmer coastline than the busier southern beaches. Spend the afternoon by the sea and rest. Go to bed early, because boats to Nusa Penida leave in the morning and early departures give calmer seas.

    SanurBreakfastNight in Sanur
  5. Day5

    Nusa Penida island day

Take an early boat from Sanur to Nusa Penida. Spend the day at the island's cliffs and offshore viewpoints. Roads and paths are demanding, so you cover a few stops rather than the whole island. Return by boat to Sanur in the afternoon. Return boats can run late, so the plan keeps a time buffer.

    Nusa Penida, SanurBreakfastNight in Sanur
  6. Day6

    Uluwatu cliffs and Kecak

Check out of Sanur and drive south to Nusa Dua to leave your bags at the hotel. In the afternoon, continue to Uluwatu to see its limestone cliffs. Stay for the Kecak performance at the temple at sunset. Return to Nusa Dua for the night. Pairing both areas on one day avoids extra cross-island trips.

Nusa Dua, UluwatuBreakfastNight in Nusa Dua
  7. Day7

    Leisure and departure

After breakfast, relax on the calm Nusa Dua beach until check-out. Your driver then takes you to Denpasar airport in time for your flight. Allow generous time for traffic on the way. The trip ends at the airport.

    Nusa DuaBreakfastNight in Nusa Dua

Three days in Bali is a tight but workable trip if you keep to the south and Ubud. Traffic is heavy, and places that look close on a map can take half a day to reach, so this plan uses one region per day and keeps hotel changes to a minimum. It suits a long weekend, a stopover or a first taste before a longer trip. Plan to add days if you can, because five days is a good first trip and seven days is ideal.

The plan at a glance

  • Day 1: arrival, Seminyak or Kuta and a beach sunset.
  • Day 2: Ubud temples and the rice-terrace circuit.
  • Day 3: Uluwatu and departure.

Day 1: arrival, Seminyak or Kuta and sunset

Land at Denpasar's Ngurah Rai Airport, clear immigration and transfer to your hotel in Seminyak or Kuta. Both are close to the airport. Kuta is a convenient first-night base with sunsets and nightlife. Seminyak has resorts, restaurants and beach clubs, and it is quieter in the evening for some travellers. Keep the afternoon light, take a beach walk for sunset and eat nearby. If your flight lands late, skip the sunset and rest. Book any beach club or dinner in advance in peak months.

Day 2: Ubud temples and the rice-terrace circuit

This is your culture day. Drive north to Ubud with a private driver, and allow generous time, because traffic makes the transfer slower than the map suggests. A practical circuit combines the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, a rice-terrace stop such as Tegallalang north of Ubud and Tirta Empul, the holy spring temple at Manukaya. Start early, because crowds and traffic build through the day. Ubud centre is crowded and walkable only in parts, so do not plan a long walking day. Return to your hotel in the south in the evening, or stay in Ubud for the night if you prefer an inland base.

Day 3: Uluwatu and departure

Use the final day for Uluwatu if your flight is in the evening. The temple is a clifftop sea temple and the sunset Kecak performance is popular, but it is not a full-day stop, and you need substantial road time. Tickets should be booked early. Travellers with a morning or afternoon flight should skip the Kecak and keep a relaxed beach morning instead, because airport transfers through peak traffic are risky. Allow extra time to reach Denpasar.

Where should you stay for three days?

One base in Seminyak or Kuta keeps the plan simple, because you can reach Ubud and Uluwatu by road without changing hotels. Travellers report that Seminyak is a practical first-visit base for many couples and independent travellers, with restaurants including Indian options. If culture matters most, split the stay and spend your last night in Ubud, though it adds a move. Keep the first and last nights near the airport when flight times are tight.

What to skip in three days

Skip Nusa Penida, northern Bali and Mount Batur unless the hike is your main priority. Each needs a full day or an early start, and the trade-off is too large in a short stay. If you want those experiences, move to the 5-day itinerary or the 7-day itinerary, which add them without rushing. Our places to visit in Bali guide explains each region.

When should you take this itinerary?

The drier season from April to October is easier for a compact plan, and May, June and September balance weather and crowds. In the wet season, keep a flexible order for days one and two, because rain can change which outdoor stop works best. See best time to visit Bali for the month-by-month picture. FAQs

3-Day Bali Itinerary: FAQs

Short answers to what travellers ask about Bali.

Is 3 days enough for Bali?

Three days is tight. It covers a southern sunset, Ubud's temples and rice terraces and Uluwatu, but it skips Nusa Penida, northern Bali and Mount Batur. Five to seven days is a more comfortable first trip.

What can I see in 3 days in Bali?

A Seminyak or Kuta sunset, an Ubud circuit with temples and rice terraces, and Uluwatu with the sunset Kecak performance. Keep each day to one region, because heavy traffic slows every transfer.

Where should I stay for a 3-day Bali trip?

Seminyak or Kuta is the simplest single base, close to the airport and within road reach of Ubud and Uluwatu. You can also spend the last night in Ubud for culture, though that adds a hotel move.

Can I visit Nusa Penida in 3 days?

It is better to skip it. The island needs an early boat and a long day, and sea conditions can cause delays. Keep it for a trip of five days or more, ideally as a separate day.

Can I do the Mount Batur sunrise hike in 3 days?

Only if the hike is your main priority. It starts before dawn and uses much of a day. In a three-day plan it would replace the Ubud day, so most travellers choose a longer trip instead.

How much does a 3-day Bali trip cost?

The cost depends on hotel category, travel dates and inclusions such as the driver and entry fees. Our packages are land-only and start at five nights. Ask a planner for a written quote that lists every inclusion.
