Bali travel guide
The cost of a Bali trip depends on four things: hotel category and area, number of nights, travel dates and what is included, such as villas, private drivers and island trips. July, August and Christmas-New Year cost more, and May, June and September are more moderate. Our packages are land-only, so flights are extra.

Bali can be managed on a moderate budget, but it can also become expensive quickly. Private drivers, villas, beach clubs, imported food and peak-season hotels all raise the total. There is no single tariff for Bali packages, so quotes vary between operators. This guide explains what drives the price, what a package usually covers and what you pay for separately, so you can compare quotes fairly. We do not quote prices on this page, because they change with dates and availability.
Our Bali packages are land-only. They include hotels on twin sharing, daily breakfast, private-vehicle airport transfers and sightseeing as listed in each itinerary, selected excursions and visa assistance. Flights, most lunches and dinners, entry fees and activities not listed, the visa fee, the Bali foreign tourist levy, travel insurance and personal expenses are extra. Always ask for a written quote that lists every inclusion, because two quotes that look alike can include different things. See the Bali Essentials 5N and Bali and Nusa Penida 6N packages for examples of what is covered.
Flights are booked separately and vary with date and airline. The Indonesian visa has an official fee, which is covered in the Bali visa guide. International visitors to Bali also pay a provincial foreign tourist levy of IDR 150,000 per person, introduced in February 2024. Travel insurance is extra. Rules and amounts can change, so confirm them before departure.
Pre-arranged private cars with drivers are the most practical option for multi-area itineraries. Typical private-car hire is approximately IDR 600,000 to 1,000,000 per vehicle per day, depending on vehicle, hours and route. App taxis such as Grab and Gojek are useful in many tourist zones, and metered taxis operate around the airport. Travellers report that app rides can be cancelled or followed by requests for extra money. Scooters are inexpensive but need a suitable motorcycle licence, a helmet and confidence in congested traffic. Fast boats serve Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan.
Local warungs and street food keep meals inexpensive. Beach clubs, hotel restaurants and imported food cost much more. Travellers report that taxes and service charges can add roughly 15 to 20 percent to restaurant bills, so check whether a menu price includes them. Bottled water is advised for drinking and brushing teeth. Since our packages include breakfast only, plan for lunches and dinners separately. Vegetarian and Indian food is available in Seminyak, Sanur and Ubud, and these areas can also be pricier.
Ask which hotel category and area each quote uses, how many hotel changes it has, whether transfers and sightseeing use a private vehicle, which meals are included and which entry fees you pay yourself. Check whether the visa fee, the tourist levy and flights are excluded. A plan with fewer hotel bases is usually easier to run. Our planners can price a route for your dates.
