About Central Europe

  • Our packages7 to 10 nights

Our Central Europe packages combine the Czech Republic and Hungary, and one route adds Vienna. Prague and Budapest are the two main cities for most first-time visitors. Prague offers Prague Castle, Charles Bridge and the Old Town Square with its Astronomical Clock. Budapest has the Parliament Building, Buda Castle, Fisherman's Bastion and the Széchenyi Thermal Bath. Beyond the cities, the historic centre of Cesky Krumlov and the spa town of Karlovy Vary are major highlights.

Outside the main cities, the research points to the Sedlec Ossuary and historic town at Kutná Hora, and to the Bohemian Switzerland national-park region for scenery and hiking. In Hungary, Lake Balaton and the wine regions of Eger and Tokaj are key draws. Trains and long-distance buses connect the major cities, and both Prague and Budapest have metro, tram and bus networks. The local currencies are the Czech koruna and the Hungarian forint, not the euro.

Flights from India usually connect through a Middle East or European hub. The main gateways named in our research are Prague Václav Havel Airport (PRG) and Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD). Flight times are not part of our current research for this region, so your planner will confirm the options from your city.

Our two packages are Prague, Vienna and Budapest 7N and Eastern Europe Explorer 10N. For planning detail, read the Central Europe travel guide and places to visit in Central Europe. For a Vienna-focused trip, see our Germany & Austria tour packages, or browse Europe tour packages for wider routes.

Budget guide

How much does a Central Europe trip cost?

Every package is priced on request. Four things move the total: trip length, the season you travel, the sights and extras you add, and the transfers between cities. The lowest-cost periods in the research are January to March and October to November. Packages are land-only, so flights, visa fees and travel insurance are separate. Read Central Europe trip cost for more.

FAQs

Central Europe tour package FAQs

Quick answers to what travellers ask before booking a Central Europe trip. Ask your trip expert anything else.

How many nights do I need for Central Europe?

Our two packages run seven nights and ten nights. The seven-night route covers Prague, Vienna and Budapest. The ten-night route covers Prague, Cesky Krumlov and Budapest at a slower pace. Your planner can adjust the nights between cities to suit your dates and interests.

Which cities should I visit first?

Most first-time visitors start with Prague and Budapest. Prague offers Prague Castle, Charles Bridge and the Old Town Square. Budapest has the Parliament Building, Buda Castle and the Széchenyi Thermal Bath. Our routes add Vienna or Cesky Krumlov as a third base, depending on the package you choose.

What is the best time to visit Central Europe?

April to May and September to October suit most travellers, with mild weather and fewer visitors than summer. June to August is the busiest season. November to March is colder and quieter, and January to March is the cheapest period in the Czech Republic. Our best-time guide has more detail.

Are flights included in your Central Europe packages?

No. Our packages are land-only, so flights are booked separately. Your planner can advise on connections from your city. Visa assistance is included in every package, but visa fees are not. Ask for a written quote that lists every inclusion before you pay.

Do Indian travellers need a visa for Central Europe?

Our current research does not include visa rules for this region, so we cannot give a definitive answer here. Check the official government or embassy site for each country on your route. Our visa guide explains what to confirm before you book.

Which airports should I fly into?

Prague Václav Havel Airport (PRG) and Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) are the main gateways named in our research. Flights from India usually connect through a Middle East or European hub. Your planner will confirm the best airport for your route and dates.

How do I travel between cities?

Trains and long-distance buses are the common way to travel between major cities in the region. Your itinerary shows the transfer for each stop, and your planner confirms the timings before you travel. Public transport within Prague and Budapest is extensive.

Is Central Europe safe for Indian tourists?

The Czech Republic and Hungary are generally considered safe, especially in main tourist areas. The common issues are petty theft and pickpocketing in busy places, plus overpriced taxis. Use licensed taxis, agree on the fare first, and keep valuables close in crowds.

Which currency should I carry?

The Czech Republic uses the Czech koruna (CZK) and Hungary uses the Hungarian forint (HUF). Neither country uses the euro for everyday spending. Carry some local currency for small purchases, and check your route currency with your planner before you travel.

Can I combine Central Europe with another European destination?

Yes. For a longer stay in Austria, see our [Germany & Austria tour packages](/germany-austria-tour-packages/). For wider routes across the continent, see [Europe tour packages](/europe-tour-packages/). Ask a planner for a free itinerary that fits your dates.
