At a glance
The Maldives is a tropical archipelago in the Indian Ocean, made of 26 natural atolls and about 1,192 coral islands. For Indian travellers it is a resort holiday more than a sightseeing trip. English is widely used in tourism, flights from Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi and Chennai run on selected schedules, and Indian passport holders generally receive a free tourist visa on arrival for up to 30 days.
A visit is made of a few distinct choices. Private resort islands offer overwater villas, spas and house reefs. Local islands such as Maafushi and Dhigurah offer guesthouses, snorkelling trips and sandbank excursions at lower cost. Baa Atoll is known for manta rays and Hanifaru Bay, Ari Atoll for diving and whale-shark excursions, and Malé is a compact capital for a short city stop. Most travellers land at Velana International Airport (MLE) near Malé and move on by speedboat, seaplane or domestic flight.
December to April is the driest and sunniest period. May to October is the wetter southwest monsoon, with lower prices but less predictable seas. Four to five nights suit a first resort stay, and seven nights suit couples and families who want to relax or split between a local island and a resort. Choose from Maldives Budget Island Stay 3N, Maldives Water Villa Honeymoon 4N, Maldives Family Resort 4N and Maldives Luxury 5N, or ask us to customise one. Every quote lists the transfer type and what is included. For deeper planning, read our Maldives travel guide, places to visit in the Maldives and Maldives trip cost. Day by day
Based on our Maldives Budget Island Stay 3N package. Your trip expert can stretch or shorten any day.
Land at Velana International Airport and meet your transfer to Maafushi by speedboat or ferry, as arranged for your arrival time. Check in to your guesthouse and rest. Walk around the island in the evening and find a café for dinner. Keep the first day light and settle in.
After breakfast, join a boat excursion from Maafushi for snorkelling over the reef and time on a sandbank. Excursion boats depend on weather, so the operator may adjust the timing. Return to the island, spend the afternoon at the designated bikini beach and rest before dinner.
Use today as a flexible day. Relax at the beach, walk the island or add an optional excursion such as a dolphin trip, booked locally and paid separately. Keeping a free day gives you slack if rain or rough seas move the previous day's boat trip.
Enjoy breakfast and check out. Take the speedboat or ferry back towards Velana International Airport, leaving a comfortable gap before your flight. Because boats can be delayed in rough weather, an afternoon or evening flight is safer than an early morning one.
Budget guide
Starting prices of our packages, per person on twin sharing, excl. GST and flights.
Four things move the price of a Maldives trip. The transfer to your island matters most, since seaplanes and domestic flights cost far more than a short speedboat. Villa type comes next: water villas cost more than beach villas. The meal plan counts too, from breakfast only to all-inclusive. Finally, Christmas, New Year and the dry months raise prices. Flights are not included in our packages. Read Maldives trip cost for more.

FAQs
Quick answers to what travellers ask before booking a Maldives trip. Ask your trip expert anything else.
Four to five nights suit a first resort stay with a house reef, one boat excursion and rest days. Seven nights allow a slower holiday or a split between a local island and a resort. Three nights is tight and works best on one nearby island.
December to April is generally the driest and sunniest period, and February is often among the driest months. May to October is the wetter southwest monsoon, with lower prices but more weather risk for boat and seaplane transfers. November and April are transitional months.
Indian passport holders generally receive a free tourist visa on arrival for up to 30 days. You must meet entry conditions, including a valid passport, confirmed accommodation, return travel, funds and the Traveller Declaration. Immigration officers keep final discretion, so check official notices before you travel.
Yes. Private villas, sunset cruises, sandbanks, spa treatments and couples' dining are core Maldives products. January to April is the most popular honeymoon period. Our [Maldives Water Villa Honeymoon 4N](/packages/maldives-water-villa-honeymoon-4n/) is built around this.
It can be. Resort transfers, accommodation, meals and activities are often priced separately or at resort rates. Local-island guesthouses, public ferries and travel between May and October lower the cost. Compare transfer-inclusive totals, not room prices alone.
Packages commonly include accommodation, selected meals and airport transfers. Flights, taxes, excursions, drinks and water sports may be extra. Our packages are land-only and list every inclusion in the itinerary, with visa assistance included.
No. Our packages are land-only and cover the stay, meals and transfers listed in your itinerary. Flights are booked separately, and our planners can suggest timings that match the resort transfer. The visa is free on arrival for most Indians, and insurance is separate.
A beach villa gives easier shore access and often better value. A water villa gives direct lagoon access and privacy but costs more, and it may suit young children less. Tell your planner your priorities and we adjust the quote.
Resorts use speedboats, seaplanes or domestic flights plus speedboat, depending on distance. Local islands use public ferries or local speedboats. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so match your international flight time to the transfer window.
Book early for Christmas, New Year and February to April, when demand is strong. In the monsoon months there is more flexibility. Ask your planner for a written quote that shows the transfer type and every inclusion before you pay.
Tell us when you want to travel and who is coming. A trip expert builds a day-by-day plan with prices that you can change.
