Maldives travel guide
A 7-day Maldives itinerary is the ideal length for a relaxed holiday: arrive and transfer, spend a resort beach and house-reef day, snorkel or dive, take a dolphin cruise or sandbank trip, add a spa or fishing day, enjoy a leisure and sunset day, then depart. Allow weather flexibility and avoid distant atolls.

Land at Velana International Airport and meet your resort representative. Transfer by speedboat or seaplane, depending on your resort. Check in to your water villa and settle in. Have dinner at the resort. Seaplanes do not fly after dark, so your arrival time decides the transfer, and we confirm this when we quote.
Start with breakfast on your villa deck or at the restaurant. The day is open for the lagoon, the beach and the villa's private deck. You can add a couples' spa treatment, which the resort books and charges separately. Dinner is at the resort.
Spend the morning snorkelling on the resort's house reef, where many properties offer direct reef access. In the late afternoon, join a sunset cruise on the lagoon. Conditions depend on the weather, so the resort may move the cruise to another evening.
Keep today unplanned. Swim, rest or try a non-motorised water sport at the resort. If you want a private sandbank picnic, ask us to add it, and the resort arranges it for a suitable day. Enjoy a final dinner at the resort.
Have breakfast and check out. Your resort transfer by speedboat or seaplane takes you back to Velana International Airport. Seaplanes operate in daylight only, so we match your flight time to the transfer window before you book flights.
Seven days is an ideal length for the Maldives. It gives you five full days after the transfers, enough for two marine activities, a spa, rest days and a weather buffer. It also leaves room to split between a local island and a resort if you want both cost savings and privacy. This plan shows a single-base version and how to adapt it.
It suits couples who want a slow honeymoon, families who want a gentler pace, and divers or snorkellers who want two marine days. It also suits travellers who want to combine a local island and a resort. For a shorter version, see the 5-day Maldives itinerary.
Land at Velana International Airport and move on to your island by speedboat, seaplane or a domestic flight plus speedboat. Check in, rest and keep the evening easy. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so match your flight time to the transfer. If you land late, a night in Hulhumalé can solve the transfer problem.
Spend the day at the beach and on the house reef. Snorkel in the morning, then rest. This day lets you read the weather and decide when to schedule the excursions. Families can check lagoon depth and kids' club hours, and couples can enjoy the villa deck.
Spend today on the reef. Snorkel with a guide, or try an introductory dive. Ari Atoll is a convenient area for diving, and many resorts offer introductory dives. Keep the afternoon free. Conditions vary, so ask the dive centre each morning and be ready to move the activity.
Take a dolphin cruise or a sandbank trip. A dolphin cruise looks for spinner dolphins, though sightings are never guaranteed. A sandbank trip brings a boat ride and often snorkelling, and couples can ask for a private picnic. Take sun protection and water. Weather can move the trip to another day.
Choose a different pace today. Book a spa treatment, try big-game fishing, or enjoy non-motorised water sports. Overwater spas, sunrise yoga and holistic treatments are common at luxury resorts. Check which items are included in your meal plan, because all-inclusive often excludes motorised sports.
Keep this day open. Rest, swim and take a sunset cruise or watch the sunset from your deck. It also acts as a weather buffer if an earlier activity moved. Travellers often say they wish they had left more slack, so protect this day.
Have breakfast, check out and take the departure transfer to Velana International Airport. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, and boats can be delayed in rough weather, so allow a comfortable buffer before your flight.
Seven days allows a local island and resort split. Start on a local island such as Maafushi, then move to a resort, or reverse the order. A short Maafushi stay followed by a resort is a commonly suggested split. Quieter local islands include Dhigurah, Thulusdhoo and Fulidhoo. Each move adds a transfer, so keep one move only.
Overloading the week with distant atolls. Each long transfer takes a day and adds weather risk. If you want Baa Atoll or Addu City, plan a longer stay, as set out in places to visit in the Maldives.
December to April is generally driest and sunniest. In the monsoon months, the buffer days matter even more. See the best time to visit the Maldives and Maldives trip cost.

FAQs
Short answers to what travellers ask about Maldives.
Yes. Seven days allows a slower holiday, two marine activities, a spa day, rest days and a weather buffer. It also leaves room for a local-island and resort split.
Yes. A local island followed by a resort, or the reverse, works well. Keep it to one move, because each move adds a transfer and weather risk. Keep a buffer before your flight.
Two is a good number, such as snorkelling or diving plus a dolphin cruise or sandbank trip. Leave the other days for rest and weather flexibility.
Not usually. Distant atolls add long transfers and weather risk, so they overload a seven-day plan. Baa Atoll or Addu City suit a longer trip.
Yes. Big-game fishing is among the activities that resorts and operators arrange. Book it through the resort, and treat the day as weather-dependent. It is usually charged separately.
Use the leisure day as a buffer, move excursions to another day and ask the resort about spa or indoor options. In the monsoon, keep your departure buffer and avoid tight flight connections.
