FAQs

Central Europe Travel Guide: FAQs

Short answers to what travellers ask about Central Europe.

What is Central Europe, and which countries does this guide cover?

This guide covers the Czech Republic and Hungary, with Prague and Budapest as the main cities. Our packages can add Vienna in Austria on one route. The research for this region is built around these two countries, so ask a planner if you want other places added.

How many days do I need for Central Europe?

Seven nights suits Prague, Vienna and Budapest at a steady pace. Ten nights adds Cesky Krumlov and more time in each city. A shorter trip works if you focus on one or two cities, but the travel time between cities should be part of your planning.

When is the best time to visit Central Europe?

April to May and September to October are the most recommended months, with mild weather and fewer visitors than summer. June to August is the busiest season. November to March is colder and quieter, and cheaper in the Czech Republic from January to March.

Which airport should I fly into?

Prague Václav Havel Airport (PRG) and Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) are the main gateways in our research. Flights from India usually connect through a Middle East or European hub. Your planner will suggest the best airport for your route.

Which currency is used?

The Czech Republic uses the Czech koruna and Hungary uses the Hungarian forint. Neither uses the euro for everyday spending. Carry some local currency, and check card acceptance in smaller towns before you travel.

Is Central Europe safe for Indian travellers?

Both countries are generally considered safe, especially in main tourist areas. Petty theft, pickpocketing and overpriced taxis are the most common issues. Standard city precautions help, and licensed taxis are the safer choice.

Do Indian travellers need a visa?

Our research does not set out the visa rules for this region. Check the official government or embassy site for each country on your route before you book. Our packages include visa assistance, but visa fees are separate.

Are your packages land-only?

Yes. Our Central Europe packages are land-only, so flights are booked separately. Your planner can advise on connections from your city. Ask for a written quote that lists what is included before you pay.
