5-Day Bali Itinerary

Quick answer

A 5-day Bali itinerary covers arrival in southern Bali, Ubud's temples and rice terraces, an Ubud wellness or adventure day, Uluwatu and Jimbaran, and a leisure day before departure. Five days is a good first trip. It skips combining both coasts of Nusa Penida with mainland sightseeing.

Facts checked 2 Nov 2026

Pale limestone cliffs at Uluwatu drop to blue ocean swells under a clear dry-season sky, with scrub in the foreground.

Day-by-day itinerary

Based on a 6-night package

  1. Day1

    Arrival and Seminyak sunset

Arrive at Denpasar airport and meet your driver for the transfer to Seminyak. Check in to your hotel and rest after the journey. Later, walk to the beach for sunset. Seminyak has many restaurants, including Indian options, so dinner is easy to find. Keep the evening free, as the next day begins with a road transfer to Ubud.

    SeminyakBreakfastNight in Seminyak
  2. Day2

Drive to Ubud and culture day

After breakfast, drive inland to Ubud. Traffic can be slow, so you leave early. Spend the day on Balinese arts, temple ceremonies and rice terraces. Your driver takes you between stops at an easy pace. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon. Keep the evening free to walk around and have dinner.

    UbudBreakfastNight in Ubud
  3. Day3

    Mount Batur sunrise hike

Wake before dawn for the Mount Batur hike. The climb is steep and starts in the dark. At the top, you look over Lake Batur and the volcanic landscape as the sun rises. Cloud can hide the view, so the sunrise is never guaranteed. Return to Ubud for breakfast and rest. Spend the afternoon at leisure.

    Mount Batur, UbudBreakfastNight in Ubud
  4. Day4

    Move to calm Sanur

Check out of your Ubud hotel and drive to Sanur. The transfer is shorter than the airport run. Sanur has a calmer coastline than the busier southern beaches. Spend the afternoon by the sea and rest. Go to bed early, because boats to Nusa Penida leave in the morning and early departures give calmer seas.

    SanurBreakfastNight in Sanur
  5. Day5

    Nusa Penida island day

Take an early boat from Sanur to Nusa Penida. Spend the day at the island's cliffs and offshore viewpoints. Roads and paths are demanding, so you cover a few stops rather than the whole island. Return by boat to Sanur in the afternoon. Return boats can run late, so the plan keeps a time buffer.

    Nusa Penida, SanurBreakfastNight in Sanur
  6. Day6

    Uluwatu cliffs and Kecak

Check out of Sanur and drive south to Nusa Dua to leave your bags at the hotel. In the afternoon, continue to Uluwatu to see its limestone cliffs. Stay for the Kecak performance at the temple at sunset. Return to Nusa Dua for the night. Pairing both areas on one day avoids extra cross-island trips.

Nusa Dua, UluwatuBreakfastNight in Nusa Dua
  7. Day7

    Leisure and departure

After breakfast, relax on the calm Nusa Dua beach until check-out. Your driver then takes you to Denpasar airport in time for your flight. Allow generous time for traffic on the way. The trip ends at the airport.

    Nusa DuaBreakfastNight in Nusa Dua

Five days is a good length for a first trip to Bali. It lets you spend two days in Ubud and one day at Uluwatu without rushing, and it keeps hotel changes to one or two. Traffic is heavy and map times are often too short, so this plan uses one main region per day and leaves the last day loose. It is close to the shape of our 5-night Bali Essentials 5N package.

The plan at a glance

  • Day 1: arrival and southern Bali.
  • Day 2: Ubud temples and rice terraces.
  • Day 3: Ubud wellness or an adventure day.
  • Day 4: Uluwatu and Jimbaran.
  • Day 5: leisure and departure.

Day 1: arrival and southern Bali

Arrive at Denpasar's Ngurah Rai Airport and settle into your hotel in Kuta or Seminyak. Kuta is convenient for a first night, with sunsets and a surf beach. Seminyak has resorts, restaurants and beach clubs. Keep the first day light, take a beach walk at sunset and eat nearby. If you land late, rest instead. Book beach clubs and dinners ahead in peak months.

Day 2: Ubud temples and rice terraces

Drive to Ubud with a private driver, and allow extra time for traffic. Visit the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, the Tegallalang Rice Terraces north of Ubud and Tirta Empul, the holy spring temple at Manukaya. Start early, because crowds build through the day. Ubud centre is crowded and walkable only in parts. Many travellers stay outside the core for quiet, and allow extra transfer time. Check into your Ubud hotel and keep the evening free.

Day 3: Ubud wellness or adventure

Choose one theme. For wellness, try a yoga class, a Balinese spa treatment or a cooking class. For adventure, take the Mount Batur sunrise hike, which starts well before dawn, is steep, and may be clouded over, so treat the view as a possibility. White-water rafting is another option. Plan a late start after a sunrise hike, and keep the afternoon for rest. You could also add the Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, a UNESCO-listed landscape that is often quieter.

Day 4: Uluwatu and Jimbaran

Drive south to Uluwatu in the afternoon. Visit the clifftop sea temple and stay for the sunset Kecak performance. Book tickets early, and allow substantial road time, because the temple itself is not a full-day stop. Combine it with a beach such as Padang Padang or Melasti, then finish with dinner on Jimbaran Beach. Expect a late return, so keep the morning relaxed.

Day 5: leisure and departure

Use the last day for a beach morning, shopping or a spa visit, depending on your flight. Keep your last night near the airport or in southern Bali when flight times are tight. Allow generous time for the airport transfer, because traffic can be heavy. Check your return ticket and passport before leaving the hotel.

Where should you stay on this itinerary?

Two bases work well: two nights in Kuta or Seminyak, and two or three in Ubud. This keeps the main road transfer to one drive. If you prefer a single base, Seminyak gives access to Ubud and Uluwatu, though Ubud days are long. Families may prefer a base with easy private-driver access and calm beaches. Travellers say a slower plan with fewer bases is usually more enjoyable than a packed one.

What to skip in five days

Skip combining both coasts of Nusa Penida with mainland sightseeing. The island's roads and access paths are demanding, and trying to do too much often means more transit than sightseeing. If Nusa Penida is a priority, take the 7-day Bali itinerary or the Bali and Nusa Penida 6N package. Shorter on time? See the 3-day Bali itinerary.

When should you take this itinerary?

April to October is the drier season, and May, June and September balance weather and crowds. In the wet season, keep outdoor stops flexible and use afternoons for spas and cooking classes. See best time to visit Bali, and read the Bali visa guide for Indians before you book flights.

FAQs

5-Day Bali Itinerary: FAQs

Short answers to what travellers ask about Bali.

Is 5 days enough for Bali?

Yes. Five days is a good first trip. It covers southern Bali, Ubud and Uluwatu without rushing. It is not enough to add both coasts of Nusa Penida to mainland sightseeing, so keep that for seven days or more.

What should I see in 5 days in Bali?

Ubud, Uluwatu, a southern beach area and one cultural or adventure excursion, such as a spa day or the Mount Batur hike. Give each region its own day, because traffic makes transfers slow.

Where should I stay for a 5-day Bali itinerary?

Two bases work well, such as Kuta or Seminyak and Ubud, with one main road transfer. A single base in Seminyak is possible but makes Ubud days long. Families may prefer calm beaches and easy driver access.

Can I add Nusa Penida to a 5-day trip?

It is not ideal. The island needs an early boat and demanding roads, and a rushed day often means more transit than sightseeing. Seven days gives it proper space, as in our Nusa Penida package.

Should I do Mount Batur on day three?

Yes, if you want an adventure day. The hike starts before dawn, is steep and weather can cloud the view. Plan an early night, a late start afterwards and a quiet afternoon.

How much does a 5-day Bali trip cost?

The cost depends on hotel category, travel dates and inclusions such as transfers, the Batur hike and the Kecak ticket. Peak months cost more. Flights are not included in our packages, so ask for a written quote.
