FAQs

Thailand Travel Guide: FAQs

Short answers to what travellers ask about Thailand.

How many days do I need in Thailand?

Five to seven days suits Bangkok plus one beach region. Ten to fourteen days allows Bangkok, northern Thailand and one or two beach areas. Three days works only as a tight Bangkok highlights trip, with no beach time.

Is Thailand safe for tourists?

Thailand is a major tourism destination and is generally easy to travel. Use licensed operators, protect belongings in nightlife areas, follow marine-safety instructions and take extra care with scooters. Check tuk-tuk prices first, and ignore claims that a temple is closed.

What currency is used in Thailand?

Thailand uses the Thai baht (THB). The rate against the rupee moves, so check the current rate before you travel. Carry some baht in small notes for stalls and local transport, as travellers often say they wished they had prepared.

Is English widely spoken in Thailand?

English is widely used in tourist areas, airports, hotels and many restaurants, but not everywhere. Thai is the official language. Learning a few basic Thai greetings is helpful and usually appreciated by hotel staff, drivers and shopkeepers.

What is the time difference between India and Thailand?

Thailand is on UTC+7. India is on UTC+5:30, so Thailand is one and a half hours ahead. Check your flight times against local time when planning arrivals and hotel check-in.

Do Indians need a visa for Thailand?

Indian ordinary-passport holders currently have a 30-day tourism visa exemption, effective from 15 September 2026 until further notice. Carry a passport valid for six months, return travel evidence and accommodation details, and confirm the latest rules before you book.

What is the best time to visit Thailand?

November to February is generally best for Bangkok, northern Thailand and the Andaman coast, with little rain. The Gulf islands often have their drier period from January to August, so the coast you choose matters more than the country-wide average.

Is Thailand a good choice for families?

Yes. Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi and Chiang Mai offer family hotels, manageable sightseeing and activities for different ages. Families often advise limiting the trip to two destinations, choosing hotels with pools and leaving rest time after the flight.
