Turkey is reachable from every major Indian city, but the route depends on where you fly from. Delhi and Mumbai have direct flights to Istanbul, and other cities connect through a hub. This guide covers flight times, the main airports and airlines, what to check when you book and how to travel once you land in Turkey. Flight schedules change by season, so confirm each flight before you pay.
Which airport should you fly into?
Istanbul Airport (IST) is the main international gateway for Turkey, and it is the airport most direct flights from India use. Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) is an alternative airport that also serves many international and domestic connections. Check which airport your ticket uses, because changing airports within Istanbul is not practical on a short trip.
From Istanbul, domestic flights connect to Cappadocia, Izmir, Antalya and Denizli. These connections make it practical to combine the cities and the coast in one trip.
How long are flights from India to Turkey?
Flight times are approximate, and they depend on the schedule and any connection:
- Delhi: about 7 hours, nonstop. Turkish Airlines and IndiGo serve the route, but nonstop service may run seasonally or change with schedules.
- Mumbai: about 7.5 hours, nonstop to Istanbul. Turkish Airlines is the usual nonstop operator.
- Bengaluru: about 9.5 hours, usually one stop via Istanbul, Doha or Dubai.
- Hyderabad: about 9.5 hours, usually one stop via Doha, Dubai or Istanbul.
- Pune: about 10 hours, usually one stop via Mumbai or a Gulf hub.
- Ahmedabad: about 10 hours, usually one stop via Mumbai, Doha or Dubai.
- Chennai: about 10 hours, usually one stop via Doha, Dubai or Istanbul.
- Kolkata: about 11 hours, usually one stop via Delhi, Doha or Dubai.
Which airlines fly to Turkey from India?
Turkish Airlines is the main airline for India to Turkey, and it operates the direct services from Delhi and Mumbai. IndiGo flies nonstop from Delhi. For one-stop routes, Qatar Airways and Emirates connect through their Gulf hubs. Compare the airlines on total elapsed time, not only the fare, because a short connection can be risky at busy times.
What should you check before you book?
- The arrival airport: confirm that the ticket arrives at IST, and that any domestic connection also leaves from IST.
- Connection time: allow a buffer, especially in peak periods. Short transfers between separate tickets can be missed.
- Baggage: check whether bags are checked through when you combine separate domestic and international tickets.
- Arrival timing: avoid adding a same-day Cappadocia connection after a long international arrival.
- Visa and passport: check your visa route and passport validity before you pay. See the Turkey visa guide for Indians.
Our packages are land-only, so you book flights separately. Our planner can suggest suitable timings from your departure city.
How do you get around Turkey?
Turkey has a wide domestic network, so the choice depends on distance and budget:
- Domestic flights: the quickest option between Istanbul, Cappadocia, Izmir, Antalya and Denizli. Book early for a wider choice of times.
- Intercity buses: comfortable, extensive and usually cheaper than flights. They suit routes such as the western coast and central cities.
- Private transfers: practical for Cappadocia, Pamukkale and coastal routes, and useful after a long flight. Our packages include private airport transfers.
- Istanbul transport: an Istanbulkart works on the metro, trams, buses and ferries. Ferries are useful for crossing the Bosphorus.
- Taxis: taxis use meters. App-based or hotel-booked rides reduce the risk of disputes over fares.
Trains exist, but they cover less of the country than the road and air network, so most visitors do not rely on them.
Which arrival is easiest after a long flight?
A nonstop arrival in Istanbul gives you the simplest first day. Stay in Istanbul for at least one night before you take a domestic flight, so you are not moving between airports on the day you land. Travellers often say that arriving in Istanbul and planning the next day's flight is easier than linking the flights on arrival.
How was this guide compiled?
This guide is compiled from published tourism, weather and transport information and traveller reports. It was last checked on 2 November 2026. Airlines, schedules and fares change, so confirm the details with your airline before you book.
