FAQs

Turkey Travel Guide: FAQs

Short answers to what travellers ask about Turkey.

How many days do I need in Turkey?

Seven nights covers Istanbul, Cappadocia and one more region. Ten to fourteen nights allows the western sites and a coast at a slower pace. Five nights is enough only for Istanbul and Cappadocia.

Is Turkey safe for tourists?

The main tourist areas are widely visited. Check official advisories, avoid the area within 10 km of the Syria border, use registered transport and keep valuables secure in crowds. Take care in summer, when wildfire and heat risks can be high.

What currency is used in Turkey?

The Turkish lira (TRY) is the official currency. Cards are common in cities and hotels, but cash is useful for small purchases and local transport. Exchange rates change, so check the current rate before you exchange money.

Is English widely spoken in Turkey?

English is understood in Istanbul and the main resort areas, but it is less common in smaller towns. Turkish is the most reliable language for shops and transport outside tourist areas, so a translation app helps.

What is the time difference between India and Turkey?

Turkey is on UTC+3 all year and has no daylight saving change. India is on UTC+5:30, so Turkey is 2.5 hours behind India. Check flight times against local time when you plan arrivals.

Do I need a visa for Turkey?

Yes. Indian ordinary, special and service passport holders need a visa. Some can use a single-entry e-Visa, and others need a sticker visa. Confirm your type on the official Turkish e-Visa website before you book.

What is the best time to visit Turkey?

April to May and September to October are generally the most comfortable, with mild weather and fewer crowds. Summer is hot on the coasts, and winter is cold and wet, with balloon flights often cancelled by fog.

Is Turkey good for a honeymoon or family trip?

Yes. Couples often combine Istanbul, Cappadocia and a coast, with a cave-suite stay. Families benefit from two- or three-night bases, a seaside stop and an itinerary that avoids long daily transfers.
