About this trip

Turkey Highlights 7N covers the classic first-trip route in eight days: three nights in Istanbul, two in Cappadocia, one in Selçuk for Ephesus and one in Pamukkale. It suits first-time visitors, couples and friends who want Byzantine and Ottoman heritage, Cappadocia's landscapes and Greco-Roman ruins in a single trip.

Istanbul gets three nights because the old city, the Bosphorus and the modern districts each need time. Cappadocia adds a full touring day with an underground city. Ephesus and Pamukkale follow, with an overnight at each end so you do not rush. Travellers warn that squeezing in too many distant places causes hurried transfers, so we limit this plan to four hotels.

Private transfers, daily breakfast, a Bosphorus cruise, the Cappadocia tour, Ephesus, Pamukkale and visa assistance are included. International and domestic flights, the Turkey visa fee, the balloon flight, other meals and insurance are extra. Read the places to visit in Turkey guide, or see all Turkey tour packages.

  • Hagia Sophia, Topkapı Palace and the Blue Mosque in Istanbul
  • A Bosphorus cruise and the Galata and Karaköy districts
  • Cappadocia's fairy chimneys, cave settlements and an underground city
  • The Library of Celsus and Curetes Street at Ephesus
  • The travertine terraces and ancient city of Hierapolis at Pamukkale

Day-by-day itinerary

Your trip expert can stretch, shorten or swap any day.

  1. Day 1: Arrival in Istanbul

Land at Istanbul Airport and meet your driver for the private transfer to your hotel. Check in and rest after the flight. In the evening, take a short walk around the hotel area if you feel fresh. Keep the first day light, because the next two days cover the main sights of the old city and the Bosphorus.

    Night in Istanbul
  2. Day 2: Historic Istanbul

Spend the day in Sultanahmet, where Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapı Palace, the Hippodrome and the Basilica Cistern sit close together. Start early to beat the crowds. Finish in the Grand Bazaar for shopping and a coffee. Do not add too many extra stops, because each site rewards a slow visit.

    BreakfastNight in Istanbul
  3. Day 3: Bosphorus cruise and modern districts

Take a Bosphorus cruise, then explore Galata, Karaköy and Beyoğlu on foot. Add Dolmabahçe Palace if you want more history. Avoid planning both shores of the Bosphorus tightly in one day, because traffic and ferry gaps consume time. Travellers also like a food-focused walk here to understand the local dishes.

    BreakfastNight in Istanbul
  4. Day 4: Fly to Cappadocia

Transfer to the airport for your domestic flight to Cappadocia. Your driver meets you and takes you to your hotel, usually in Göreme. Spend the afternoon at leisure and watch the sunset over the fairy chimneys. Confirm any balloon booking for tomorrow or the next morning, and keep the evening easy.

    BreakfastNight in Cappadocia
  5. Day 5: Cappadocia valleys and underground city

Take a full-day tour that links valley viewpoints, cave settlements and an underground city. Travellers say this kind of combined route is more efficient than separate trips. If you have booked an optional balloon flight, it happens at sunrise, so allow a rest after it. Weather can cancel flights, so stay flexible.

    BreakfastNight in Cappadocia
  6. Day 6: Fly to Izmir and transfer to Selçuk

Transfer to the airport for your domestic flight to Izmir, then continue by road to Selçuk. This town is the usual base for Ephesus, so you can visit without a rushed day trip. Check in and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Keep the evening quiet before tomorrow's visit.

    BreakfastNight in Selçuk
  7. Day 7: Ephesus and transfer to Pamukkale

Visit Ephesus in the morning, when it is cooler. See the Library of Celsus, Curetes Street and the Terrace Houses, which show the scale of this Roman city. In the afternoon, travel by road to Pamukkale. Check in and rest, because the terraces are best seen early or late.

    BreakfastNight in Pamukkale
  8. Day 8: Pamukkale and departure

Visit the travertine terraces and the ancient city of Hierapolis early, before the midday crowds and heat. Return for breakfast and check-out. Your driver then takes you to Denizli airport for your flight onward to Istanbul and home. Leave plenty of time for your connection and keep your documents with you.

FAQs

Turkey Highlights 7N: FAQs

What travellers ask about this trip. Your trip expert can answer anything else.

Is 7 nights enough for Turkey?

Seven nights covers Istanbul, Cappadocia, Ephesus and Pamukkale at a steady pace, as in this plan. The long Mediterranean coast does not fit. Travellers warn that covering too many distant places in a short trip causes rushed transfers, so we limit the plan to four hotels.

What does the Turkey Highlights package include?

Seven nights in comfort-category hotels on twin sharing, daily breakfast, private airport transfers, sightseeing by private vehicle as listed, a Bosphorus cruise, a Cappadocia tour, Ephesus, Pamukkale and visa assistance. Flights, the visa fee, balloon ride, other meals and insurance are not included.

Do Indians need a visa for Turkey?

Yes. Indian ordinary-passport holders need a visa. Some may qualify for a single-entry e-Visa if they hold a valid visa or residence permit from Schengen, the United States, the United Kingdom or Ireland. We provide visa assistance, but the fee is extra. See our [Turkey visa guide](/visa/turkey-visa-for-indians/).

Is the Cappadocia balloon flight included?

No. The balloon flight is an optional extra because prices change and flights depend on weather. Book early for April to May and September to October, and keep a spare morning, because wind or fog can cancel the first attempt. Your planner can add it to the quote.

Can I add a beach stay to this route?

Yes. Antalya or Bodrum can be added as a two-night extension with beach time, and your planner can quote it on top of this route. Keep beach time separate from archaeological touring, because summer heat and site distances make combined days tiring.

Are flights included in this package?

No. Our packages are land-only, so international flights and the domestic flights between cities are booked separately unless your quote lists them. Nonstop flights run from Delhi and Mumbai, taking about seven to seven and a half hours. Other cities usually have one stop, with total journey times of about nine and a half to eleven hours.
