About Spain & Portugal

  • Our packages7 to 10 nights

Spain and Portugal share the Iberian Peninsula, so one trip can cover both countries. Spain offers large cities such as Barcelona, Madrid and Seville, along with Granada's Alhambra, Valencia and Bilbao. Portugal adds Lisbon's Alfama and Belém, Porto on the Douro waterfront and the Algarve beaches. Both countries have historic old towns, strong local food and a lively festival calendar.

Spain and Portugal both use the euro. Portuguese is the official language in Portugal and Spanish is official in Spain, and English is widely understood in major cities and tourist areas. Trains link many main cities, and Spain's high-speed AVE services connect major cities well. Most trips from India connect through a hub, because direct flights are not usual.

Our packages keep to two city bases per trip, so you spend less time on the road and more time sightseeing. Choose from Spain Highlights 7N for Barcelona and Madrid, or Spain Portugal 10N for Lisbon and Seville, or ask us to customise one. Spring and early autumn suit most visitors. Read the Spain and Portugal travel guide before you book, and see our Europe tour packages for more options in Europe.

Season guide

Best time to visit Spain & Portugal

Our verdict

Spring and early autumn are the strongest seasons in both countries. In Spain, April to June and September to October suit sightseeing, with lighter crowds. In Portugal, spring and early autumn are recommended, and May to June and September to October are often the sweet spots. For beaches, May to October is the main window. Summer is hot, especially inland, and August is the busiest month. Winter is cooler and quieter, and rainy in northern Portugal. See the best time to visit Spain and Portugal guide.

Budget guide

How much does a Spain & Portugal trip cost?

Costs depend on the city, the season and your hotel area. Spain is generally cheaper than northern Europe, while Portugal is moderate to expensive by southern European standards. Lisbon, Porto and the coast cost more in peak season. January and February, and the shoulder months, usually offer better value. Our packages are land-only, so flights are extra. FAQs

Spain & Portugal tour package FAQs

Quick answers to what travellers ask before booking a Spain & Portugal trip. Ask your trip expert anything else.

How many days do I need for Spain and Portugal?

Our packages run seven nights in Barcelona and Madrid, or ten nights across Lisbon and Seville. Seven nights suits a first Spain trip at a steady pace. Ten nights gives time for both countries. A very short trip can cover only one city or one country comfortably.

Should I visit Spain or Portugal first?

It depends on your flights. Lisbon is the main gateway to Portugal, and Madrid and Barcelona are the main gateways to Spain. Choose the country that matches your arrival and departure airports, and ask your planner to order the cities to suit your flights.

When is the best time to visit Spain and Portugal?

Spring and early autumn are the strongest seasons. In Spain, April to June and September to October suit sightseeing. In Portugal, spring and early autumn are recommended. Summer is hot and busy, especially inland, and winter is cooler and quieter.

Do I need a visa for Spain and Portugal?

We have not yet verified the visa rules for Indian passport holders for either country, so we do not state them here. Check the official government site of each country you will enter, and your airline, before you book. Our packages include visa assistance, but visa fees are extra.

Is Spain or Portugal safe for tourists?

Both are generally safe. The main risk is pickpocketing and bag theft in crowded areas, on metros and public transport, and in nightlife districts. Keep valuables secure, watch your bags in crowds, and use licensed taxis or trusted ride-hailing.

Do I need to speak Spanish or Portuguese?

No, but a few phrases help. English is widely understood in major Portuguese cities and tourist areas, and it is common in major Spanish tourist areas, though not universal. Smaller towns may need basic Spanish or Portuguese.

Do your Spain and Portugal packages include flights?

No. Our packages are land-only, so flights are booked separately. Flights usually connect through a hub, and our planners can suggest arrival and departure timings from your city. Visa fees, travel insurance and flights are extra.

Can I change the cities in a package?

Yes. Ask your planner to change the cities, add nights or adjust the pace. You receive a quote with every inclusion listed before you pay, so you can compare it with the original package.

Do I need a car in Spain or Portugal?

Usually not for the cities. Trains connect many main cities, and metros and trams work in Lisbon, Porto and the larger Spanish cities. A car helps for beaches, hill towns and rural areas, but parking and narrow streets are hard in older areas.

Is this a good trip for a first visit abroad?

Yes. Two city bases, a train link and sightseeing by private vehicle as per the itinerary keep the trip simple. Choose Spain Highlights 7N for a shorter trip, or Spain Portugal 10N to cover both countries with more time in each city.
