Spain Highlights 7N is a seven-night trip with two city bases: four nights in Barcelona and three in Madrid. It suits first-time visitors, couples and friends who want the main sights of two Spanish cities without packing every day. A high-speed train links the two cities, which keeps the move simple.
Barcelona comes first, with Sagrada Família, Park Güell and the Gothic Quarter over the first few days. The train to Madrid is on day five. In Madrid you visit the Prado Museum and the Royal Palace, and you have a free day to explore at your own pace.
Our packages are land-only. Private-vehicle transfers and sightseeing as per the itinerary, daily breakfast and visa assistance are included. Flights, other meals, entry fees and activities not listed, visa fees, travel insurance and GST are extra. Our planner can adjust the cities or add nights. For background, read the Spain and Portugal travel guide and places to visit.
Your trip expert can stretch, shorten or swap any day.
Land in Barcelona and transfer to your hotel by private vehicle. Check in and rest after the journey. In the evening, take a short walk near your hotel to get your bearings. Keep the first day light, because the next days cover the city in more depth. Keep your passport and hotel details handy for the transfer.
Spend the morning in the Gothic Quarter, where the old streets are best explored on foot. In the afternoon, visit Sagrada Família, one of the city's main attractions. In summer, rest at the hotel during the hottest hours, and keep the evening for a relaxed dinner. Check the current opening times for Sagrada Família before you go.
Visit Park Güell in the morning, then spend the afternoon at your own pace. Use the free time to walk, shop or sit at a café. Keep the evening flexible, and ask your planner for suggestions if you want more ideas for the day. Dress for the weather of the season you travel in.
Spend the day at your own pace in Barcelona. You can revisit a favourite sight, explore a neighbourhood or go to the beach. Pack in the evening, because tomorrow you travel to Madrid by high-speed train, as per the itinerary. Plan your last evening in Barcelona around a dinner you enjoy, because the train to Madrid is tomorrow.
Travel from Barcelona to Madrid by high-speed train, as per the itinerary. Check in at your Madrid hotel and take an easy evening walk. Keep the afternoon light after the journey, and plan dinner in the city centre. Check the train departure time with your planner before you leave the hotel.
Visit the Prado Museum in the morning, one of Madrid's main attractions. In the afternoon, see the Royal Palace. Keep the middle of the day for a rest or an indoor break if the weather is hot, and enjoy an easy evening in the city. Allow time for queues at the main sights.
Spend the day at your own pace in Madrid. Walk the streets, shop or take a longer break at a café. Ask your planner for ideas if you want suggestions for the free day, and keep the evening for a relaxed meal. If the weather is warm, plan walks for the cooler part of the day.
Have breakfast and check out. Your driver takes you to Madrid-Barajas (MAD), the main airport for Madrid, for your departure. Allow enough time for traffic and check-in, and confirm your flight with your airline before you travel. Leave time for traffic on the way to the airport, and keep your passport handy.
