Flights, other meals, entry fees and activities not listed, visa fees, travel insurance and GST are extra. For more background, read the Spain and Portugal travel guide and best time to visit.

Day-by-day itinerary

Your trip expert can stretch, shorten or swap any day.

  1. Day 1: Arrival in Lisbon

Land at Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) and transfer to your hotel by private vehicle. Check in and rest after the journey. In the evening, take a short walk to get your bearings, and keep the first day light. Keep your passport and visa papers handy for arrival formalities.

    BreakfastNight in Lisbon
  2. Day 2: Alfama, Belém and a tram ride

Explore Alfama on foot in the morning, then visit Belém in the afternoon. Take a tram ride for a different view of the city, and stop at a viewpoint to see the skyline. Rest at the hotel before dinner. Wear comfortable shoes, because the old streets are steep in places.

    BreakfastNight in Lisbon
  3. Day 3: Day out to Sintra

Make a day out to Sintra to see its palaces. Your planner confirms the transport and timings, as our research does not give the journey time from Lisbon. Return to Lisbon in the evening and rest. Start early to make the most of the palaces, and carry water and a hat in warmer months.

    BreakfastNight in Lisbon
  4. Day 4: A free day in Lisbon

Spend the day at your own pace in Lisbon. Walk the viewpoints, ride a tram or visit the waterfront. Keep the evening for dinner out, and ask your planner for ideas if you want more options for the day. Keep the morning slow, and take a short rest after lunch. Choose one area to explore in depth.

    BreakfastNight in Lisbon
  5. Day 5: Last morning in Lisbon

Enjoy a relaxed morning in Lisbon. Pack in the afternoon and rest, then have an early dinner before tomorrow's transfer. Keep your documents and visa paperwork together for the journey. Use the time to return to a favourite café or viewpoint. Confirm the transfer time with your planner. Keep valuables with you on the journey.

    BreakfastNight in Lisbon
  6. Day 6: Transfer to Seville

Travel from Lisbon to Seville, as per the itinerary. Check in at your Seville hotel and take an easy evening walk. Keep the afternoon light after the journey, because the next days cover the city. Keep your bags close during the journey, as busy transport hubs attract pickpockets. Confirm the mode and timing with your planner before you travel.

    BreakfastNight in Seville
  7. Day 7: Alcázar and the cathedral

Visit the Alcázar and the cathedral in Seville. Plan your visits for the cooler part of the day, because summer in southern Spain is hot. Rest at midday and keep the evening free for a walk. Carry a light layer for the cooler spaces inside. Book a time slot if the site asks for one.

    BreakfastNight in Seville
  8. Day 8: Flamenco in Seville

Spend the day at your own pace in Seville. In the evening, enjoy flamenco, one of the city's main draws. Ask your planner about show options before you travel, so you can plan the evening. Dinner before the show gives you a relaxed evening. Arrive early to find a good seat.

    BreakfastNight in Seville
  9. Day 9: A free day in Seville

Spend a relaxed day in Seville. Walk the old town, take a break at a café or shop for a few hours. Plan the evening around a relaxed dinner, and keep the schedule light before your departure. Try local dishes at lunch, and ask your planner for restaurant ideas. Keep the evening light.

    BreakfastNight in Seville
  10. Day 10: Last day in Seville

Use the day to revisit a favourite sight or shop. Pack in the evening, because your departure is the next morning. Confirm your departure airport and flight time with your planner. Use the morning for a final walk, and keep the afternoon free for shopping or rest. Store your documents safely before you pack.

    BreakfastNight in Seville
  11. Day 11: Departure from Seville

Have breakfast and check out. Your driver takes you to the airport for your departure. Seville Airport (SVQ) is one of the gateways in our research, so confirm your departure airport with your planner. Allow time for traffic and check-in.

FAQs

Spain Portugal 10N: FAQs

What travellers ask about this trip. Your trip expert can answer anything else.

Is ten nights enough for Portugal and Spain?

Ten nights covers Lisbon and Seville at a steady pace, with free days in each city and a day out to Sintra. It does not cover Porto or the coasts in depth. Add nights if you want Porto, the Algarve or another city.

Does the package include flights?

No. Our packages are land-only, so flights are booked separately. Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) is the main gateway to Portugal, and Seville Airport (SVQ) is one of the gateways to Spain in our research. Your planner can suggest timings from your city.

How do I travel from Lisbon to Seville?

By the transfer shown in your itinerary, on day six. Your planner confirms the mode and timing when you book, because our research does not give journey times for this route. Plan to arrive in Seville in time for check-in, and allow for the transfer on the day.

Is Sintra worth a day out from Lisbon?

Yes. Sintra and its palaces are named among Portugal's top attractions, and they make a good day away from the city centre. Your planner will confirm the transport and timings from Lisbon before you travel. A day out suits a relaxed pace and a meal in the town.

Is it safe to travel in Portugal and Spain?

Both countries are generally safe for tourists. The main risk is pickpocketing and bag theft in busy areas, on public transport and in nightlife districts. Keep valuables secure, and use licensed taxis or trusted ride-hailing. Carry copies of your passport and keep the originals in a safe place.

When is the best time for this package?

Spring and early autumn are the strongest seasons. Summer is hot in southern Spain, and peak summer is busy and pricier in Portugal. Winter is cooler and quieter, and rainy in northern Portugal. Ask your planner which dates suit you.
