At a glance
South Korea is a peninsula country in East Asia, with the capital Seoul in the north and the coastal city of Busan on the south coast. For Indian travellers it offers a different kind of Asian city break: royal heritage, K-pop and K-drama culture, Korean food and an efficient rail and metro network. English is available in major tourist areas, and hotels in Seoul and Busan are built for international visitors.
A visit is made of a few distinct places. Seoul holds the Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung palaces, Bukchon Hanok Village, and the shopping and café districts of Myeongdong, Hongdae and Gangnam. Busan adds Haeundae Beach, Gamcheon Culture Village and the Jagalchi seafood market. Gyeongju, the ancient Silla capital, is known for Bulguksa Temple, and Jeju Island offers volcanic landscapes and Hallasan National Park. Nami Island and Seoraksan National Park are easy excursions from the capital region.
Most travellers fly into Incheon International Airport (ICN) in Seoul, and Delhi has the most direct options from India. A first trip of seven days covers Seoul, a KTX train to Busan and a day in Gyeongju, while ten to fourteen days can add Jeju. Travellers often say that over-scheduling is the main mistake, so our planners group sights by area and leave rest time.
Choose from the Korea K-Culture Tour 5N for a Seoul-focused trip, or the Seoul Jeju Highlights 6N for two Seoul nights and four on Jeju, or ask us to customise one. Season guide
April to May and September to October are the strongest months to visit South Korea. April brings cherry blossoms and highs near 18°C, and October is mild and clear, with highs of about 21°C and autumn foliage. May is warm and comfortable. Avoid July and August, when highs reach about 31°C, humidity is high and heavy rain is common. December to February is cold, but it suits winter city sightseeing with warm clothing. Day by day
Based on our Korea K-Culture Tour 5N package. Your trip expert can stretch or shorten any day.
Land at Incheon International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Myeongdong, a central area that suits a first visit. Check in and rest after the flight. In the evening, take a short walk to the street food stalls and cafés nearby. Keep the first night light, because the coming days cover palaces, neighbourhoods and an excursion.
Spend the morning at Gyeongbokgung Palace, then walk the hanok lanes of Bukchon Hanok Village. In the afternoon, explore the galleries, teahouses and craft shops of Insadong. Grouping these three areas on one day keeps transfers short. Wear comfortable shoes, because the lanes include slopes and many steps.
Choose one excursion for the day. Nami Island and Chuncheon offer wooded paths and riverside scenery, with seasonal foliage in autumn. A DMZ tour involves transfers and security procedures that take a substantial part of the day. Do not add a palace visit to the same day, and keep the evening free for a relaxed meal.
Spend the day in two contrasting districts. Hongdae offers cafés, street performers and younger shopping streets, while Gangnam has large department stores and a more polished city feel. Travellers often add shopping time once they see the quality of Korean clothing, so leave some afternoon time free.
Visit a neighbourhood food market in the morning and try a Korean barbecue meal in the evening. Ask your planner for vegetarian-friendly restaurant options, which are easier to find in Seoul. Use the afternoon to rest, pack purchases and prepare for your departure.
Enjoy breakfast and check out. Your transfer takes you to Incheon International Airport for your onward flight, so allow enough time for the journey and check-in. If your flight is later in the day, use the morning for a last walk or shopping near your hotel.
Budget guide

Four things move the price of a South Korea trip. Hotel area and category matter most: luxury hotels in Jamsil, Gwanghwamun and Gangnam cost more than 3-star options in Myeongdong or Dongdaemun. Trip length comes next, and adding Jeju or Busan adds domestic transport. Season counts too, since April and October are busy. Finally, check the inclusions. Flights are not included in our packages. FAQs
Quick answers to what travellers ask before booking a South Korea trip. Ask your trip expert anything else.
Five days covers Seoul and one excursion, such as Nami Island or a DMZ tour. Seven days allows Seoul, Busan and Gyeongju or Jeju. Ten to fourteen days suits a broader circuit through Seoul, Busan, Gyeongju and Jeju. Three days is possible only for a tight Seoul-only trip with little time for excursions.
Yes, in most cases. Indian ordinary-passport holders generally need a South Korean visa before travel. Visa-free and K-ETA exemption arrangements for selected nationalities do not generally cover Indians. Confirm the requirements with the Korean Embassy or its designated visa channel, and read our [South Korea visa guide](/visa/south-korea-visa-for-indians/).
April to May and September to October are the strongest periods, with comfortable temperatures and seasonal scenery. April brings cherry blossoms, and October is clear and mild with autumn foliage. July and August are hot and wet, so plan indoor activities if you travel then.
Our packages are land-only, so the price excludes international airfare, the visa fee and GST. Prices depend on hotel category, trip length and season. Each package page shows an approximate starting price, and our planners will send a written quote with every inclusion listed before you pay.
It can be moderate to expensive, especially for Seoul hotels and peak-season flights. Metro travel, local restaurants and convenience-store meals keep daily costs manageable. Book early for April, October and holiday periods, when hotel rates rise and availability falls.
The most practical first-trip combination is Seoul, Busan, Gyeongju and either Jeju Island or Seoraksan. Seoul needs about three days, Busan and Gyeongju about two days each, and Jeju about three. Read [places to visit in South Korea](/south-korea-travel-guide/places-to-visit/) for the details.
The South Korean won (KRW) is used. International cards are widely accepted in hotels, department stores and many restaurants. Keep some cash or a local payment option for markets and small vendors. Check the current exchange rate before you travel, because it changes.
The KTX high-speed train is usually the most convenient option, taking about 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes depending on the service. Book seats early for busy periods. Within the cities, a T-money or Cashbee card works on metro and buses. See [how to reach South Korea](/south-korea-travel-guide/how-to-reach/) for more detail.
Yes. Seoul's metro, aquariums, theme parks, museums and interactive attractions suit families well. Plan fewer attractions each day, allow rest time, and check stroller access in palace compounds, hills and traditional markets, where walking distances and steps can be long.
Avoid packing too many cities into a short trip, relying on taxis during peak traffic, and visiting Jeju without weather flexibility. Do not assume that all Indian travellers qualify for visa-free or K-ETA entry. Travellers often say they wish they had planned less tightly and carried a small bag for rubbish.
