South Korea Trip Cost

Quick answer

A South Korea trip costs more or less depending on hotel area, trip length, season and what is included. Seoul hotels and peak-season travel are the biggest costs, while metro travel and local meals keep daily spending low. Our packages are land-only, so international flights and the visa fee are extra.

South Korea can be good value for travellers who use public transport and eat at local restaurants, but Seoul hotels and peak-season flights can add up quickly. The cost of a trip depends on a few clear factors. This guide explains what drives the price, what everyday items cost in won, and how to compare quotes fairly. Read it before you compare packages, so you know what each quote includes.

What drives the cost?

Four factors matter most. The first is hotel area and category. Myeongdong, Hongdae, Gangnam and Haeundae offer a range of 3-star, 4-star and 5-star options, while luxury hotels in Jamsil, Gwanghwamun and Gangnam cost more. The second is trip length. A seven-day trip with Busan and Gyeongju costs more than a five-day Seoul trip, and a ten-day trip with Jeju adds domestic transport. The third is season, since April, October and public holidays lift hotel rates. The fourth is inclusions, such as transfers, excursions and private vehicle touring.

Where does the money go?

Most of a trip budget goes on accommodation, international flights and transport between cities. Within Seoul and Busan, the metro is inexpensive, and a single ride costs about KRW 1,500 to 2,000. Airport rail from Incheon costs roughly KRW 4,750 to 11,000, depending on the service, and is faster on express trains. A KTX ticket from Seoul to Busan costs about KRW 59,800 one way in economy. Ordinary meals cost about KRW 8,000 to 20,000 each, so a mix of local restaurants and markets keeps daily food costs manageable.

Domestic flights to Jeju Island are a separate cost, and a private vehicle for the island can add to the total. Our packages list what is included, so check the inclusions before you compare.

Hotel categories and areas

Budget hotels are generally 3-star and are found in areas such as Myeongdong, Jung-gu, Hongdae and Dongdaemun. Standard hotels are 4-star and often sit in Myeongdong, Hongdae, Gangnam and Haeundae in Busan. Premium hotels are 5-star, and luxury hotels are the top category, found in Jamsil, Jung-gu, Gwanghwamun and Gangnam. Breakfast is generally included in these categories, and optional meal upgrades are often available.

Choose the area by how you plan to travel. Myeongdong is central and convenient for a first visit, while Hongdae suits younger travellers and nightlife. Stay near a metro line to reduce taxi costs.

Season and timing

Price changes with the calendar. April, October and public holidays are busy, so hotel rates rise and availability falls. School vacations and major concert dates can have a similar effect. November and early March are generally quieter and can offer better value. Summer from June to August can see lower package demand, but heat, humidity and heavy rain are real risks to plan around.

Inclusions to check

When you compare quotes, check how many nights are included, whether breakfast is part of the price, which transfers are included and whether sightseeing is by private vehicle. Check whether excursions such as Nami Island or a DMZ tour are listed, and whether a Jeju domestic flight sits within the quote. Our packages are land-only, so flights are not included and the visa fee is extra. Ask for a written quote that lists every inclusion before you pay.

Ways to keep costs manageable

  • Use the metro and airport rail in Seoul and Busan rather than taxis.
  • Eat at neighbourhood restaurants and markets, and try convenience-store meals for quick breakfasts.
  • Choose a hotel near a transport hub outside the most expensive core.
  • Travel in November or early March for lower demand.
  • Book KTX seats and hotels early, especially for April and October.
  • Buy a T-money card on arrival for public transport.

Ways to add value

Some travellers add private Seoul food tours, hanbok photography, K-pop experiences, a DMZ tour or Jeju private touring. Others choose premium KTX seating or a luxury hotel for a special occasion. These options raise the price, so decide which experiences matter most before you choose a package.

Our Korea K-Culture Tour 5N package suits a Seoul-focused trip, while the Seoul Jeju Highlights 6N package adds Jeju Island. Both are land-only and show the inclusions on each package page.

FAQs

South Korea Trip Cost: FAQs

Short answers to what travellers ask about South Korea.

Is South Korea expensive for Indian travellers?

It can be moderate to expensive, especially for Seoul hotels and peak-season travel. Metro rides, airport rail and local meals are inexpensive by comparison. Costs fall if you use public transport, eat at markets and travel outside April and October.

What is the cost of the metro in South Korea?

A metro ride in Seoul or Busan costs about KRW 1,500 to 2,000, depending on distance. A T-money card works on the metro and most buses, so you do not need to buy single tickets each time. Check the current fares on arrival.

What does the KTX train from Seoul to Busan cost?

A KTX ticket from Seoul to Busan costs about KRW 59,800 one way in economy, based on our research. Prices can vary by service and date, so check the current fare when you book. Booking early helps for busy periods.

Are meals expensive in South Korea?

Ordinary meals at local restaurants cost about KRW 8,000 to 20,000. Korean barbecue and private food tours cost more. Convenience-store meals and market food keep daily costs low, and they suit a quick breakfast or a light lunch.

Are flights part of the package price?

No. Our South Korea packages are land-only, so international flights are booked separately. Visa fees are extra too. Ask your planner for suitable flight timings from your city and check the total connection time before you choose a fare.

What makes a South Korea trip more expensive?

Central Seoul hotels, luxury hotels, April and October travel, private vehicle touring, a Jeju domestic flight and private experiences all add cost. Trip length matters too, because each extra city or island needs extra nights and transport.

What should I check before I compare package quotes?

Check the number of nights, hotel category and area, breakfast, transfers, sightseeing by private vehicle, excursions such as Nami Island or a DMZ tour, and any domestic flights. Ask for a written quote that lists every inclusion and exclusion before you pay.

How can I keep costs down on a South Korea trip?

Use the metro and airport rail, eat at local restaurants and markets, stay near a transport hub, and travel in November or early March for lower demand. Book KTX seats and hotels early, and buy a T-money card on arrival.
