About Malaysia

  • Our packages5 nights
  • Visa for IndiansNo visa needed

Malaysia is a Southeast Asian country made of Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia on the island of Borneo. For Indian travellers it combines a modern city, heritage streets, beaches and rainforest in a single trip. English is widely used in hotels, airports and tourist areas, and direct flights from several Indian cities take about four to six hours. It works for couples, families, friends and groups.

Most trips are built around a few areas. Kuala Lumpur holds the Petronas Twin Towers, Batu Caves and the Bukit Bintang food and shopping streets. George Town in Penang offers UNESCO-listed streets and one of Southeast Asia's strongest hawker-food scenes. Langkawi adds beaches, mangroves and island-hopping. Malacca is a short heritage extension, the Cameron Highlands bring tea estates and cooler air, and Sabah adds wildlife and marine parks.

Most travellers fly into Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL). December to February is generally favourable for Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Langkawi, while March to October suits the east-coast islands. Five to seven days is a comfortable length for Kuala Lumpur plus one more place. Choose from Malaysia Discovery 5N and Malaysia Honeymoon 5N, or ask us to customise a route. Our planners keep each route to one main coast, which cuts transfer time. For deeper planning, read our Malaysia travel guide, places to visit in Malaysia and Malaysia trip cost. Our verdict

Malaysia is tropical all year, so the best time depends on the coast. December to February is generally favourable for Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Langkawi, with highs of 32°C to 33°C. March to October suits the east-coast islands such as Perhentian and Redang. October and November bring heavy rain, and east-coast islands may close in the northeast monsoon. Day by day

Sample 6-day Malaysia itinerary

Based on our Malaysia Discovery 5N package. Your trip expert can stretch or shorten any day.

  1. Day1

    Arrival in Kuala Lumpur

Land at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and meet your driver for the transfer to your hotel. Check in and rest after the journey. In the evening, take an easy walk or short ride to Bukit Bintang for dinner. Keep the first night light, because the next days cover several areas.

    BreakfastNight in Kuala Lumpur
  2. Day2

KLCC, the Petronas Towers and Bukit Bintang

Spend the day around KLCC and the Petronas Twin Towers. Do not give the whole day to the towers. Combine them with the wider KLCC area, and walk the Bukit Bintang food and shopping streets after dark. Kuala Lumpur has efficient urban transport, but your private vehicle keeps the day simple.

    BreakfastNight in Kuala Lumpur
  3. Day3

Fly to Penang and settle in George Town

Travel to Penang by domestic flight, which is booked separately. A transfer takes you to your hotel in or near the George Town heritage zone. After check-in, take a gentle first walk through the old streets. Keep the evening free for hawker food, one of Southeast Asia's strongest food scenes.

    BreakfastNight in George Town, Penang
  4. Day4

    George Town heritage and food

Start early, before the heat, traffic and tour groups build up. George Town's UNESCO-listed streets pair Peranakan architecture with street art and temples. Break the day with a rest at the hotel, then return for an evening food walk. Your driver is available for the sights that sit beyond walking distance.

    BreakfastNight in George Town, Penang
  5. Day5

Return to Kuala Lumpur, Batu Caves and Chinatown

Fly back to Kuala Lumpur. After your hotel check-in, visit Batu Caves, then continue to Central Market and Chinatown for souvenirs and street food. Sleeping in Kuala Lumpur tonight gives you a safe buffer before the international flight, so there is no rush on the final morning.

    BreakfastNight in Kuala Lumpur
  6. Day6

    Departure from Kuala Lumpur

Enjoy breakfast and check out. If your flight is later in the day, use the morning for last shopping or a relaxed walk near your hotel. Your driver takes you to Kuala Lumpur International Airport for departure, leaving enough time for traffic and check-in.

Budget guide

How much does a Malaysia trip cost?

Starting prices of our packages, per person on twin sharing, excl. GST and flights.

Four things move the price of a Malaysia trip. Trip length and the number of cities come first, because each extra stop adds a hotel and a transfer. Hotel category and area follow. Island stays cost more than city stays, and domestic flights add to the total. Season matters too: Christmas, New Year, Chinese New Year and school holidays are busier. Flights are not included in our packages. Read more in Malaysia trip cost.

FAQs

Malaysia tour package FAQs

Quick answers to what travellers ask before booking a Malaysia trip. Ask your trip expert anything else.

Is Malaysia visa-free for Indians?

Yes, for now. Indian nationals can enter visa-free for eligible visits of up to 30 days until 31 December 2026, subject to passport, arrival-card and immigration checks. The policy is time-limited, so confirm it with Malaysian Immigration before you book.

What documents do Indians need for Malaysia?

Carry a passport valid for at least six months, a completed Malaysia Digital Arrival Card, a return or onward ticket, accommodation details and proof of sufficient funds. Complete the arrival card within three days before you arrive.

What is the best time to visit Malaysia?

December to February is generally favourable for Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Langkawi. March to October is generally better for east-coast islands such as Perhentian and Redang. Thunderstorms are common between seasons, and heavy rain arrives in October and November. Check the monthly weather notes before you choose dates.

How many days are enough for a Malaysia tour?

Five to seven days suits Kuala Lumpur with Langkawi, Penang or Malacca. Ten to fourteen days allows a broader peninsula route and a Borneo extension. A three-day trip works for Kuala Lumpur alone, with no time for islands.

Do your Malaysia packages include flights?

No. Our packages are land-only and cover the hotels, transfers and sightseeing agreed in your itinerary. Flights and domestic flights are booked separately, and our planners can suggest timings from your city. Travel insurance is also separate.

Which places should I include in Malaysia?

Kuala Lumpur, George Town, Langkawi, Malacca and the Cameron Highlands are the main choices, with Sabah or the Perhentian Islands as extensions. Pick one coast for a short trip, because island and domestic transfers take time.

Is Malaysia suitable for families and honeymooners?

Yes. Families benefit from urban attractions and easy beach resorts. Honeymooners can combine Langkawi or Sabah resorts with Kuala Lumpur and private experiences. See our [Malaysia Honeymoon 5N](/packages/malaysia-honeymoon-5n/) for a five-night route. Ask your planner to match hotels and activities to your travel style.

Is Malaysia cheaper than Thailand for Indian travellers?

Comparable packages can be similar. Malaysia may cost less for city and heritage travel, while Thailand can offer better value for concentrated island and nightlife trips. Flights and island hotels move the price most. Ask us for a written quote.

Which airlines fly directly from India to Malaysia?

AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines, Air India, IndiGo and Batik Air Malaysia operate or have operated direct routes on selected sectors. Schedules vary by city and date, so check the current timetable before you book your flights.

What currency is used in Malaysia, and do Indian cards work?

Malaysia uses the Malaysian ringgit. Cards are widely accepted in cities and resorts, but carry cash for hawker centres, small shops, markets and rural transport. Check your bank's foreign-transaction charges before you travel. Keep a small amount of cash for hawker stalls and local transport.
