At a glance
Kenya is a safari country, known for its national parks and reserves. Most international visitors arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi (NBO), and English is widely used for travel, business and tourism, alongside the main language, Swahili.
A Kenya trip is made of a few distinct places. Maasai Mara National Reserve is known for the Great Migration and big-game safaris. Amboseli National Park offers views of Mount Kilimanjaro and elephants, Tsavo covers large wilderness areas, and Lake Nakuru is known for birdlife and rhinos. Nairobi offers city attractions and works as a base for safaris, and the Kenyan coast suits beach holidays.
Our packages focus on Maasai Mara, with Nairobi at the start and end. The Kenya Safari 6N gives four nights in the reserve, and the Kenya Tanzania Safari 9N adds a Tanzania leg. Both are land-only. For a deeper look at the reserve, read our Masai Mara tour packages and the Kenya travel guide.

Season guide
The main safari season in Kenya runs from June to October, with dry weather, thinner vegetation and strong wildlife viewing. July to October is especially good for the Great Migration in Maasai Mara. December to March is a second good window, also relatively dry and popular for safaris and beaches. September to November is a strong shoulder period, with fewer crowds and good wildlife viewing. March to May turns wetter, with long rains in April and May. See the best time to visit Kenya guide.
Day by day
Based on our Kenya Safari 6N package. Your trip expert can stretch or shorten any day.
Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) and transfer to your Nairobi hotel by prearranged vehicle. Check in and rest after the journey. Nairobi has city attractions, so keep the evening light. Your planner confirms the transfer to Maasai Mara for the next morning.
Leave Nairobi by prearranged private vehicle for Maasai Mara National Reserve. Your planner confirms the road time before you travel. Settle in at your accommodation and rest. Your planner also confirms the timing of your first game drive before you set off.
Spend the day on game drives in Maasai Mara National Reserve in a private safari vehicle. The reserve is known for big-game safaris, so bring binoculars and a camera. Start early, as is usual on safari, and carry water and sun protection for the middle of the day.
Another full day in the reserve with game drives in your private safari vehicle. From July to October the Great Migration is the main draw, and your planner can tell you what to expect for your dates. Keep the afternoon free for rest.
Enjoy a final game drive in Maasai Mara National Reserve. Then return to your accommodation to rest and pack for the transfer to Nairobi. Ask your planner for the departure time so the schedule is clear before you pack.
Transfer back to Nairobi by prearranged private vehicle, allowing time for the road. Check in at your Nairobi hotel and spend the evening resting and preparing for your departure the next day.
Check out and transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) for your flight home. Flights are booked separately, so your planner checks the departure timing against your flight before the trip.
Budget guide
Kenya's costs depend on trip style, the parks you visit and the season. Peak safaris, especially in July to October, cost more than shoulder periods. October to December can offer lower rates than the absolute peak in some cases. Kenya uses the Kenyan shilling (KES). Flights and visa fees are separate from our land-only packages. We currently have two Kenya packages in draft form. The Kenya Safari 6N is six nights with four in Maasai Mara National Reserve, and the Kenya Tanzania Safari 9N is nine nights, with three in Maasai Mara and five on a Tanzania leg. Both are land-only, and you can ask a planner to customise either one.
Our research does not set an ideal length for Kenya. Our packages run six and nine nights. Six nights covers Nairobi and four nights in Maasai Mara, which suits a first safari at a relaxed pace. Ask a planner whether a longer trip with more parks suits your interests.
June to October is the main safari season, with dry weather and strong wildlife viewing. July to October is especially good for the Great Migration in Maasai Mara. December to March is a second dry window, and September to November suits travellers who want fewer crowds.
No. Our packages are land-only, so flights are booked separately. Our planners can suggest arrival and departure timings from your city. Connections to Nairobi are usually routed through major hubs in the Middle East or Africa, so ask a planner for current schedules.
Our research does not yet confirm Kenya's visa rules for Indian passport holders. Check the official source for Kenya before you book, because rules can change. Visa assistance is included in our packages, but the visa fee is separate. Read the Kenya visa page for more detail.
Kenya uses the Kenyan shilling (KES). Exchange rates change, so check the current rate before you travel. Compare how much you receive before you exchange money or pay by card, and ask your planner which costs to expect in your quote.
Swahili is the main language, and English is widely used for travel, business and tourism. Indian travellers can usually plan and travel in English. Your planner can confirm the language support for your drivers and accommodation when you request a quote.
Most international visitors arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi (NBO). Our research does not confirm direct flights from India, so connections are usually routed through major hubs in the Middle East or Africa. Ask a planner for current flight times from your city before you book.
Our research does not include a source-backed safety rating. Take normal precautions for city and wildlife travel, follow local advisories and be cautious about night travel in unfamiliar urban areas. Prearranged private transport is usually the most practical choice for safaris.
Domestic flights cover long distances, and private safari vehicles are used for the parks. Matatus, which are shared minibuses, are used for local and intercity travel. In cities, taxis and ride-hailing services are used. Our packages arrange transport as per the itinerary, so you do not need to book it separately.
