At a glance
Indonesia beyond Bali is a set of islands, each with its own character. Java has the temples of Borobudur and Prambanan, the volcanic landscape around Bromo and the city culture of Yogyakarta. Komodo National Park and Labuan Bajo bring wild dragons and boat trips among the islands. Lombok and the Gili Islands offer quieter beaches, and Raja Ampat is a remote reef destination in the east. For Indian travellers it is a trip for variety rather than a single resort holiday.
Our Indonesia packages are land-only. They cover hotels on twin sharing, daily breakfast, private-vehicle transfers and the sightseeing in your itinerary, plus visa assistance. International flights and the Indonesian visa fee are arranged separately. The Yogyakarta Borobudur add-on 2N is a two-night heritage stay built around sunrise at Borobudur Temple. The Bali Lombok Gili 8N adds four nights in Bali and four in Lombok, with a Gili Islands boat day. A planner can adjust either one to your dates.
Plan around distance. Most routes from India connect through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok or Jakarta, and moving between islands takes time. A simpler route, such as Yogyakarta with Lombok, usually works better than several island transfers in one trip. Travellers often say they wished they had more days, so allow longer if you want Flores or Raja Ampat as well.

Why go
Yogyakarta and Borobudur sunrise at Borobudur Temple and the Prambanan temple complex, with Javanese arts, batik and food in the same city.
Komodo National Park see wild Komodo dragons, with Padar viewpoints and pink-sand beaches reached by boat.
Labuan Bajo the gateway to Komodo, with sunset viewpoints, island boats and newer resort options.
Lombok and the Gili Islands quieter beaches than Bali, a boat day to the Gilis and an optional Mount Rinjani trek.
Bromo-Tengger-Semeru a pre-dawn viewpoint over a volcanic sea of sand and the active Mount Bromo landscape.
Raja Ampat coral reefs, manta encounters and karst-island scenery in a remote eastern archipelago.
Where to go
Cooler volcanic highlands, tea-country scenery and Sundanese cuisine near Jakarta. Schedule scenic trips on weekdays, because weekend road traffic can erase the time advantage.
A pre-dawn caldera viewpoint over a volcanic sea of sand and the active Mount Bromo landscape. Stay near Cemoro Lawang and use an approved 4WD.
Road trip through volcanic highlands, traditional villages and crater lakes such as Kelimutu. Winding roads make short map distances consume most of a day.
Wild Komodo dragons, with Padar viewpoints, pink-sand beaches and snorkelling reached by boat. Choose a boat with safety equipment and confirmed guide credentials.
Gateway to Komodo National Park, with sunset viewpoints, island boats and resort options. Reserve park boats and permits early in July and August.
Quieter beaches than Bali, boat access to the Gili Islands and trekking on Mount Rinjani. Rinjani permits and trail status change, so check before you book.
Coral reefs, manta encounters and karst-island scenery in a remote eastern archipelago. Allow a buffer day, because flights, transfers and homestay boats depend on weather.
Base for sunrise at Borobudur and a visit to Prambanan, with Javanese arts, batik and food. Give the two temples two nights, because traffic and timed entry make a single day rushed.
Season guide
April to October is generally the drier window across Java and much of southern Indonesia. May, June, September and October balance good weather with lower demand than July and August. July and August are dry and busy, with higher rates and strong diving visibility. From November to March, rain is more frequent in many areas, though culture and city touring remain workable. Eastern islands can differ, so ask a planner about your chosen island. See the best time to visit Indonesia guide.
Day by day
Based on our Yogyakarta Borobudur add-on 2N package. Your trip expert can stretch or shorten any day.
Arrive at Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) and transfer by private vehicle to your hotel in the city. Check in and rest after the journey. In the evening, take an easy walk around Malioboro to get your bearings. Keep the evening light, because your sunrise start at Borobudur comes early the next morning.
Leave the hotel before dawn for sunrise at Borobudur Temple, the large Buddhist temple in Central Java. Timed entry and road traffic make an early start necessary. Return to the hotel for breakfast and rest. In the afternoon, visit the Sultan's Palace in Yogyakarta, or ask your planner to add a batik workshop or a gamelan session. The nearby Mendut and Pawon temples can be added on request.
Eat breakfast and check out. Visit Prambanan, the Hindu temple complex, in the morning before your transfer. Treat it as a full visit rather than a quick stop, and allow time for traffic and timed entry. Your driver then takes you to Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) for departure, with enough time for check-in. Keep your flight after midday so the morning stays unhurried.
Budget guide
Starting prices of our packages, per person on twin sharing, excl. GST and flights.
Four things set the cost of a trip beyond Bali. Domestic flights and boat charters are the biggest variable, because each island change adds time and money. Komodo and Raja Ampat boats, park fees and remote-island resorts raise the total. Trip length matters too, since each extra island adds nights and transfers. July, August and the festive period cost more. Read Indonesia trip cost for the details.

FAQs
Quick answers to what travellers ask before booking a Indonesia (beyond Bali) trip. Ask your trip expert anything else.
Yes, especially for travellers who want Komodo dragons, volcanoes, heritage, diving and quieter islands rather than Bali's concentrated resort scene. The trip suits people who enjoy some travel between places, because island transfers need planning. Our planners can match the route to your interests and dates.
Yogyakarta, Komodo National Park, Labuan Bajo, Lombok, Bromo and Raja Ampat are the strongest choices for a first trip beyond Bali. Yogyakarta and Lombok make the simplest pair, while Komodo suits a boat-based wildlife trip. Choose two or three areas rather than many.
Indian travellers should obtain the applicable Indonesian visitor visa or e-VOA unless current official immigration guidance confirms a different exemption. Check Indonesia's official immigration portal before you book. Our packages include visa assistance, but the visa fee is extra.
Seven days suits Yogyakarta and Komodo. Ten to 14 days allows a more comfortable mix of Java, Flores and Lombok or Raja Ampat. Three days is tight, so choose either Yogyakarta or Labuan Bajo rather than both.
Use domestic flights for long distances, and ferries or fast boats for nearby islands. Private cars with drivers suit overland routes in Java and Flores. Confirm boat times, weather rules and luggage limits before you travel, because sea conditions can change plans.
It is generally visitable with authorised guides and park operators. Komodo dragons are wild predators, so follow ranger instructions and keep the distance you are asked to keep. Choose a boat operator with safety equipment and confirmed guide credentials.
It can suit divers and nature travellers, but remote logistics, transfer dependency and higher cost make it less suitable for a short first trip. Allow a buffer day, because flights, transfers and boats are linked to weather and local schedules.
Bali is easier for a compact resort, wellness or nightlife holiday. Beyond Bali suits wildlife, heritage, diving and expedition-style variety. If you want both, our [Bali tour packages](/bali-tour-packages/) cover that option, and some trips combine the two.
May to June and September to October offer a strong balance of weather, access and lower demand. July and August are drier and busier, while rainfall varies by island. Check the month-by-month notes in the travel guide before you choose your dates.
Prices depend on trip length, routing, boat class, permits, domestic flights and hotel category, so we quote each itinerary separately. Packages are land-only, and international flights are extra. Ask for a written quote that lists every inclusion before you pay.
