Indonesia (beyond Bali) travel guide
The cost of a trip beyond Bali depends on routing, boats, domestic flights, park fees, hotel category and season. Each extra island adds transfers and nights. Komodo and Raja Ampat boats and remote resorts cost more. Our packages are land-only, so international flights are booked separately, and every quote lists what is included.

Indonesia beyond Bali is not one price level. A two-night Yogyakarta stay and a multi-island route through Flores, Lombok and the eastern islands are very different trips. Remote boats, domestic flights and park permits add cost, while city stays and local food can be good value. This guide explains what drives the cost, why more islands cost more, and how to compare quotes fairly, so you can judge a proposal rather than chase a single headline figure.
Every island you add brings extra work. You need a flight or a boat between regions, a buffer day for weather, and often a second hotel. Limiting the number of islands is one of the research budget tips, and it also makes the trip less tiring. A simpler route, such as Yogyakarta with Lombok, usually costs less than a trip that also includes Flores and Raja Ampat, and it avoids the risk of missed connections. Adding one island is a sensible step up from a single base.
The research lists four general categories. Budget stays are typically three-star hotels in areas such as Yogyakarta city centre, Labuan Bajo town, Kuta Lombok and Surabaya, with breakfast included. Standard stays are four-star hotels in areas such as Malioboro, the Labuan Bajo waterfront and Mandalika. Premium stays are five-star hotels in Borobudur, Waecicu Beach and Labuan Bajo. Luxury stays are resort or private-villa options on Komodo's islands and in Raja Ampat, usually on a half-board basis, or bespoke full board in remote areas. Check the meal basis, because breakfast only, half board and full board change the total.
The main price swings come from demand. July and August combine school-holiday demand with the drier weather in many southern destinations, so rates rise and remote boats fill quickly. The festive period in December also adds pressure. Shoulder months, such as May, June, September and October, usually give better value for the same routes, with more room to choose transfers and boats.
Our packages are land-only. They cover hotels on twin sharing, daily breakfast, private-vehicle transfers, the sightseeing in your itinerary and visa assistance. International flights, the Indonesian visa fee, travel insurance, park fees and entry fees not listed in the itinerary, most meals and personal expenses are extra. Ask for a written list of inclusions before you pay, and check how boats, guides and permits are charged.
Compare quotes for the same route, the same number of nights and the same meal basis. Check the boat class, the cabin type and the number of people sharing. Ask whether park fees, permits and domestic transport are included. A low headline price can hide a basic boat or a long transfer, so compare the detail rather than the total alone. Confirm the weather cancellation terms in writing, because sea conditions can change the route.
Two sample routes show the range. The Yogyakarta Borobudur add-on 2N is a short heritage stay with a simple two-night base. The Bali Lombok Gili 8N covers four nights in Bali and four in Lombok, with a transfer day and a Gili Islands boat day. Each package page shows the starting price, the inclusions and the exclusions, so you can compare them with other quotes.
This guide is compiled from published tourism, weather and transport information and traveller reports, and was last checked on 2 November 2026. Prices change with routing, boat class, permits, domestic flights and exchange rates, so every quote is prepared for your specific itinerary and dates.

FAQs
Short answers to what travellers ask about Indonesia (beyond Bali).
Routing, the number of islands, domestic flights and boats, park fees, hotel category and travel dates matter most. Each extra island adds transfers and often an extra night. Komodo and Raja Ampat boats and remote resorts cost more than city stays.
No. Our packages are land-only, so international flights are booked separately. Domestic flights are included only where your itinerary lists them. Your planner can suggest timings from your city and help with the connection.
It can be, particularly for remote islands, private boats and luxury resorts. Local food, guesthouses and public transport can be inexpensive, and city stays in Yogyakarta are good value. The cost depends largely on how many islands you visit.
A focused route, such as Yogyakarta with Lombok, usually gives good value. It keeps transfers low, avoids the cost of extra domestic flights and boats, and leaves more of the budget for good hotels and experiences.
Not unless your itinerary says so. Komodo National Park fees, entry tickets and permit costs are often separate. Ask for a written list of what is included before you pay, and confirm the current fees with the park or operator.
July and August are the busiest and most expensive, and the festive period in December also adds demand. The shoulder months of May, June, September and October often give better value for the same route.
Compare the same route, nights and meal basis. Check the boat class, cabin type, transfers, park fees and cancellation terms. A low total can hide a basic boat or a long transfer, so look at the detail.
For Komodo and Raja Ampat, a good boat matters more than a low headline price. Check safety equipment, cabin comfort, guide credentials and weather terms. A better boat is usually worth paying for on a multi-day trip.
