FAQs
Short answers to what travellers ask about Indonesia (beyond Bali).
Seven days suits Yogyakarta and Komodo. Ten to 14 days allows a more comfortable mix of Java, Flores and Lombok. Three days is tight, so pick either Yogyakarta or Labuan Bajo rather than trying both, and avoid stacking long transfers into a short trip.
It is generally manageable, with normal precautions. Watch for traffic, petty theft in crowded places and strong currents while snorkelling, and follow local advisories on volcanic and seismic activity. Use licensed boat operators, and check weather before sailing, especially in the wet season.
Indonesia uses the rupiah (IDR). The exchange rate against the Indian rupee changes, so compare what you receive before you exchange money or pay by card. Keep a note of the rate on the day you book, and carry some cash for small purchases and boat fares.
Indonesian is the official language. English is common in major tourist areas, hotels and tour operations, but it is less common on remote islands. Learning a few basic Indonesian phrases helps outside the main tourist zones.
India is on UTC+5:30. Western Indonesia is on UTC+7, so it is 1.5 hours ahead of India. Central Indonesia is on UTC+8, 2.5 hours ahead, and eastern Indonesia is on UTC+9, 3.5 hours ahead. Check your flight times against local time when you plan arrivals.
Indian passport holders should check current requirements before booking. The official e-VOA visitor visa allows a single 30-day stay, and your passport must be valid for at least six months. Confirm the rules on Indonesia's official immigration portal, and do not rely on unofficial visa-free claims.
Bali is easier for a compact resort, wellness or nightlife holiday. The islands beyond Bali suit wildlife, heritage, diving and expedition-style travel, but they involve more domestic flights and boats. Many travellers choose one or the other, and the [Bali tour packages](/bali-tour-packages/) cover that option.
April to October is generally drier across Java and much of southern Indonesia. May, June, September and October offer a good balance of weather and lower demand. July and August are dry but busier, and November to March is wetter in many areas.
