About Greece (Santorini)

  • Our packages5 to 7 nights
  • Best timeApr, May, Jul, Aug, Sep, Oct
  • Visa for IndiansVisa required

Greece combines ancient heritage with island scenery in one trip. Athens holds the Acropolis and the museums that explain it, while Santorini offers caldera-edge villages and volcanic cliffs. Mykonos is known for its beaches and a compact old town. English is widely understood in tourist areas, hotels and on the islands, so the trip suits first-time travellers from India.

Most travellers choose one of two shapes. Seven days covers Athens and one or two islands, and ten to fourteen days allows Athens, mainland heritage and several islands. Ferries and domestic flights link the islands, but their schedules and the weather can change, so fewer bases usually make a calmer holiday. Naxos and Crete give longer stays with more space than the busiest Cycladic islands.

Our Greece packages are built around these routes. Santorini Honeymoon 5N pairs one night in Athens with four nights on Santorini, for couples. Athens Santorini Mykonos 7N gives a first visit to three contrasting bases. Every package is land-only, so flights to Athens, the Schengen visa fee, travel insurance and personal spending are arranged separately, while visa assistance is included.

Before you choose dates, read the Greece travel guide, with its best time to visit Greece and Greece trip cost pages. Travellers who also want Italy should note that combining several Greek islands with Italy by ferry is not efficient, so compare our Italy tour packages before you decide.

Our verdict

April to May and September to October are the most comfortable months for most Greek trips. May is often ideal, with highs near 26°C and fewer visitors than summer. September has warm seas and easing crowds. June to September suits beach travel best, but July and August are the hottest and most expensive months, with highs near 34°C and busy ferries. November to March is cool and wetter, better for Athens and museums than island beaches. See the full best time to visit Greece guide.

Day by day

Sample 6-day Greece (Santorini) itinerary

Based on our Santorini Honeymoon 5N package. Your trip expert can stretch or shorten any day.

  1. Day1

    Arrive in Athens

Land in Athens and transfer to your central hotel by private vehicle. Check in and rest after the journey. In the evening, take a short walk through Plaka, the old neighbourhood below the Acropolis. Keep this evening light, because a long flight is tiring and the next day involves a transfer to the islands.

    Night in Athens
  2. Day2

Transfer to Santorini and the caldera at sunset

After breakfast, transfer to the airport or port for your onward journey to Santorini, by ferry or domestic flight, as your planner confirms. Check in to your caldera-view room in Fira or Imerovigli and take your first look at the view. Plan to watch the sunset from the caldera edge, where the villages and the water are visible together.

    BreakfastNight in Santorini
  3. Day3

Caldera walk from Fira to Oia

Start early for the caldera walk from Fira towards Oia, which follows paths and steps along the cliff edge. Stop for coffee in the villages, and go early so the route is quieter. Wear comfortable shoes, because the steps are steep and the cobblestones uneven. In the afternoon, rest at your hotel or visit a beach.

    BreakfastNight in Santorini
  4. Day4

    Private sunset cruise

Spend the morning at leisure, then board your private sunset cruise around the caldera in the late afternoon. Sunset cruises fill quickly in peak season, so your planner should confirm the booking before you travel. Return to the island for a relaxed dinner, which suits a couples evening.

    BreakfastNight in Santorini
  5. Day5

Beaches and a couples spa treatment

Take a slower day. Visit one of Santorini's black-sand beaches or Red Beach, which is known for its red volcanic cliffs. In the afternoon, enjoy your couples spa treatment at the hotel or a nearby spa. Pack a light bag for the next day, because the transfer to the airport or port comes early.

    BreakfastNight in Santorini
  6. Day6

    Departure from Santorini

Enjoy breakfast and check out. Your private transfer takes you to the airport or port, leaving time for check-in and any ferry or flight delay. You will connect back through Athens for your flight home. Travellers advise leaving a buffer when the island transfer falls on the same day as an international flight.

Budget guide

How much does a Greece (Santorini) trip cost?

Starting prices of our packages, per person on twin sharing, excl. GST and flights.

Four things move the cost of a Greece trip. Season matters most, because July and August are the most expensive, especially on the Cycladic islands. Island choice comes next, since Santorini and Mykonos cost more than Naxos or Crete. Ferries, domestic flights and the number of island changes add both time and money. Hotel location and category count too. Flights, the Schengen visa fee and travel insurance are separate from our packages. Read more in Greece trip cost.

FAQs

Greece (Santorini) tour package FAQs

Quick answers to what travellers ask before booking a Greece (Santorini) trip. Ask your trip expert anything else.

Do Indians need a visa for Greece?

Yes, in most cases. Indian ordinary-passport holders generally need a Schengen short-stay visa for tourism, which allows up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Visa assistance is included in our packages, but the visa fee is separate. Read the [Greece visa guide for Indians](/visa/greece-visa-for-indians/) before you book.

What is the best time to visit Greece?

April to May and September to October suit most travellers, with warm weather, fewer crowds and better value than July and August. July and August suit beach holidays best, but they are the hottest and busiest months, and island prices peak then.

How much does a Greece tour package cost from India?

Prices depend on trip length, hotel category, island choice and season. Each package page shows an approximate starting price, and a planner can give an exact quote for your dates. Our packages are land-only, so flights, the Schengen visa fee and travel insurance are extra.

How many days are enough for Greece?

Seven days works for Athens plus one or two islands. Ten to fourteen days suits Athens, mainland heritage and several islands. Trying to visit every famous island in a short trip creates long transfers and leaves little time to enjoy any one place.

Is Greece expensive for Indian tourists?

It can be, particularly in July and August and on Santorini or Mykonos. Mainland Greece, shoulder-season travel, ferries and three- or four-star hotels can keep costs lower. Check what each quote includes before you compare prices.

What are the best places to visit in Greece?

Athens, Santorini, Mykonos, Crete, Naxos, Meteora and Delphi suit first-time visitors well. Athens is the main base for heritage, Santorini for caldera views, and Crete for beaches and Minoan sites. Meteora and Delphi work well as overnight stops on the mainland.

Are there direct flights from India to Greece?

Yes, from Mumbai and Delhi. IndiGo operates scheduled direct services from both cities to Athens, and AEGEAN is also listed for Delhi. Frequencies are limited and schedules change, so check the service for your date before you book.

What currency is used in Greece?

Greece uses the euro (EUR). Cards are widely accepted, but keep some cash for local buses, small shops and tavernas. Check the current euro rate before you travel, because exchange rates move from week to week.

What should I pack for a Greece trip?

Pack breathable clothing, comfortable walking shoes, sun protection, a light layer for evenings and swimwear. Modest clothing is needed for monasteries and churches, so carry a shawl or long trousers. Santorini's steps and cobblestones make comfortable shoes essential.

Can I combine Greece with Italy in one trip?

Yes, but allow at least 10 to 14 days. Combining several Greek islands with Italy by ferry is not generally efficient, so use direct or seasonal flights between the two countries where practical, and keep the island list short.
