Indian ordinary-passport holders generally need an Oman visa or eVisa before they travel. The right category depends on your nationality and intended stay, so start with the official eligibility tool. Oman's visa rules have recently changed, with a new free 14-day tourist category announced in 2026. This page explains what is known and what to check before you book. Visa fees and processing times are set by the official portal, so confirm them there.
Do Indians need a visa for Oman?
Yes, in most cases. Indian citizens generally need an Oman visa or eVisa unless they meet a specific exemption condition. The Royal Oman Police eVisa portal is the official channel for checking eligibility and applying, and Oman's Foreign Ministry publishes the entry-visa guidance. Do not rely on older advice from friends or agents, because the categories have changed recently.
What is the new 14-day tourist category?
Oman introduced a separate free 14-day tourist visa category through amendments to the Executive Regulations of the Foreign Residence Law. The amendment was published in Official Gazette No. 1659 on 2 August 2026, and it entered into force on 3 August 2026. The official announcement says the category applies only to nationalities designated by the competent authority. The sources reviewed did not confirm that Indian ordinary-passport holders are included, so do not assume that this category applies to you. The 14-day stay cannot be extended or transferred to a residence visa, according to the Foreign Ministry.
Which visa category applies to you?
The eVisa remains the standard route for many travellers, and the Royal Oman Police eligibility wizard shows the category that matches your nationality, residence status and intended stay. Run this check before you start an application, because applying for the wrong category can leave you without the option you need. If you are eligible for the 14-day category, use it only for a stay that fits within 14 days, and plan for the fact that it cannot be extended.
What documents do you need?
- Ordinary Indian passport: it must be valid for at least six months before you enter Oman. This is the critical document.
- Medical certificate: an original and a copy may be required for nationals of certain countries, including India. Whether you need one depends on your visa category, so check the wizard.
- Return or onward ticket: required for visa-exempt entry, and reported as a condition for eligible Indian nationals using the 14-day arrival facility. It is not confirmed here as a universal eVisa requirement, so carry it anyway.
- Confirmed hotel reservation: required for visa-exempt entry and reported as a condition for the 14-day facility. Keep your booking confirmation with you.
- Health insurance: required for visa-exempt entry and reported as a condition for the 14-day facility. Carry proof of cover.
Carrying all of these documents is a sensible step for any trip, because immigration officers may ask for proof of onward travel, accommodation and funds.
How do you apply?
- Use the Royal Oman Police eligibility wizard at the official eVisa portal to find the category that applies to you.
- Complete and submit the online visa application, with your travel document and personal details.
- Pay the visa fee online, if your selected category requires one. Check the amount on the official portal, because it is not listed on this page.
- Enter Oman through a legal border after your visa is approved, and keep a copy of the approval with you.
Processing times are not confirmed here. Apply early enough to allow for approval before your flight, and check the status on the official portal.
What mistakes should you avoid?
- Choosing the wrong category: always complete the eligibility wizard first.
- Travelling with a short passport: an ordinary passport with less than six months of validity can lead to a refused application or refused entry.
- Assuming the 14-day category applies to you: India's inclusion was not confirmed by the sources reviewed.
- Assuming the 14-day stay can be extended: the Foreign Ministry says it cannot be extended or transferred to a residence visa.
- Relying on old information: check the official portal shortly before you book.
Visa fees and processing
The official portal sets the visa fee for each category, and it is not confirmed on this page. Processing time is also not confirmed. Check both on the Royal Oman Police eVisa portal before you pay, and keep the payment receipt. Visa fees are not included in our packages, so budget for them separately.
Does a Tripstor package include the visa?
Visa assistance is included in our Oman packages, such as the Oman Muscat & Wahiba Sands 5N package. The Oman visa fee is extra. Ask your planner what help is available for your application, and share your passport details only through our official channels. Flights are also booked separately.
