About this trip

Oman Muscat & Wahiba Sands 5N is a five-night land package for Indian travellers who want Oman's capital, its interior and one night in the desert. It suits first-timers, couples and friends who enjoy old souks, mountain viewpoints and sand dunes. You stay in comfort-category hotels in Muscat and Nizwa, with one desert camp night in between.

Days one and two are in Muscat, with Mutrah Souq, Mutrah Corniche and the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. On day three you visit Nizwa's historic fort and souq, then Jebel Akhdar's terraces and viewpoints in the Al Hajar range. Day four takes you to the Wahiba Sands for dune views, camel activities and a desert camp night. Day five follows the coastal route back toward Muscat, with a walk at Wadi Shab and a stop at Bimmah Sinkhole.

Everything on the ground moves by private vehicle, with a 4WD transfer for the dunes, daily breakfast, airport transfers and visa assistance included. Flights to Muscat, other meals, entry fees, the Oman visa fee and travel insurance are extra. Our Oman travel guide and places to visit in Oman explain each stop in more detail.

  • Mutrah Souq, Mutrah Corniche and the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat
  • Nizwa's historic fort and traditional souq
  • Jebel Akhdar's terraces, villages and viewpoints

  • A Wadi Shab walk and the Bimmah Sinkhole on the coastal route

Day-by-day itinerary

Your trip expert can stretch, shorten or swap any day.

  1. Day 1: Arrival in Muscat

Land at Muscat International Airport (MCT) and transfer to your hotel by private vehicle. Check in and rest after the flight. In the late afternoon, walk the Mutrah Corniche and browse Mutrah Souq, where the lanes and harbour views make an easy first evening. Keep the night light, because the next days cover a lot of ground.

    BreakfastNight in Muscat
  2. Day 2: Muscat: Grand Mosque and museums

Visit the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in the morning, and check its visitor dress requirements before you leave the hotel. In the afternoon, choose one of Muscat's museums or spend time on the coastline. Return to the hotel to rest during the hottest hours, and enjoy grilled seafood by the water in the evening.

    BreakfastNight in Muscat
  3. Day 3: Nizwa fort, souq and Jebel Akhdar

Drive inland to Nizwa, the gateway to Oman's interior, and visit its historic fort and traditional souq. Check locally whether the Friday livestock market applies to your visit, because its timing is fixed. In the afternoon, continue to Jebel Akhdar for cooler mountain air, villages, terraces and viewpoints. Wear a light layer, and return to Nizwa for the night.

    BreakfastNight in Nizwa
  4. Day 4: Wahiba Sands dunes and desert camp

Drive from Nizwa to the Wahiba Sands. A 4WD transfer or an experienced desert operator takes you onto the dunes, which is the safest way to reach them. Spend the late afternoon on a sunset drive, with camel activities if you wish. Stay overnight at a desert camp, and pack a light layer for the evening.

    BreakfastNight in Wahiba Sands
  5. Day 5: East coast: Wadi Shab and Bimmah Sinkhole

After breakfast, leave the desert and head for the coastal route toward Muscat. Walk into Wadi Shab, a canyon with pools, wearing footwear for uneven paths, and swim where conditions allow. Stop at Bimmah Sinkhole, a limestone depression with clear water. Wadis can flood after rain, so check conditions before you go. Return to Muscat for the night.

    BreakfastNight in Muscat
  6. Day 6: Departure from Muscat

Enjoy breakfast and check out. Your driver takes you to Muscat International Airport for departure, leaving enough time for check-in. If your flight is late in the day, use the morning for a last walk or shopping at Mutrah Souq. Confirm flight times with your planner in advance, so the transfer timing works.

FAQs

Oman Muscat & Wahiba Sands 5N: FAQs

What travellers ask about this trip. Your trip expert can answer anything else.

Is five nights enough for Oman?

Five nights covers Muscat, Nizwa, the Jebel Akhdar mountains, one desert night in the Wahiba Sands and the Wadi Shab coast. It is a full pace but workable. Seven nights or more gives more time in each area, and our planners can adjust the plan to suit you.

What does the Oman Muscat & Wahiba Sands package include?

Five nights in comfort-category hotels and one desert camp night on twin sharing, daily breakfast, private airport transfers and sightseeing as per the itinerary, a 4WD transfer into the dunes and visa assistance. Flights, other meals, entry fees, the Oman visa fee and travel insurance are not included.

Are flights to Oman included in this package?

No. Packages are land-only, so you book flights to Muscat separately. Direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru take about 3.5, 2.75 and 4.5 hours respectively, though schedules and airlines can change. Our planners can suggest arrival times that suit the first day.

Do Indians need a visa for Oman?

Indian citizens generally need an Oman visa or eVisa unless they meet a specific exemption condition. Visa assistance is included in this package, but the visa fee is extra. Check the Royal Oman Police eVisa portal before you book, because visa categories and eligibility rules have recently changed.

Is this Oman package suitable for senior travellers?

Yes, if the itinerary uses private transfers and shorter walks. Mountain roads at Jebel Akhdar, the dune drive and the Wadi Shab walk need reduced activity levels. Tell your planner about any mobility needs, and ask for a viewpoint stop in place of a longer walk.

When is the best time to take this Oman package?

November to February is the most comfortable window, with daytime highs of about 31°C to 36°C. October and March are still hot, with highs near 40°C. May to August reach about 46°C to 47°C, so the desert and mountain days need careful timing.
