Indian ordinary-passport holders can visit Phuket and Krabi without a visa for tourism, under a visa-exemption scheme that took effect on 15 September 2026. The entry rules are simple, but they have changed recently, so older advice may no longer apply. This guide explains who qualifies, what documents to carry, how the online arrival card works and what to do if you need to stay longer. Check the official sources before you travel, because rules can change again.
Do Indians need a visa for Phuket and Krabi?
No, not for a tourism visit. Indian ordinary-passport holders can enter Thailand for tourism without a visa for up to 30 days. Phuket and Krabi are both in Thailand, so the same entry rules apply to both destinations, and a combined trip does not need a separate visa. The exemption covers tourism. If your trip is for another purpose, check the rules with the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi before you travel.
What changed on 15 September 2026?
From 15 September 2026, Thailand revoked the earlier 60-day visa-exemption arrangement for Indian ordinary-passport holders and introduced a 30-day visa exemption for tourism. Before this change, travellers relied on a visa-on-arrival arrangement. The Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi published the change, and the current stay is 30 days. If you read older guidance that mentions 60 days, do not rely on it. Plan your trip around the 30-day limit.
What documents do you need?
Three documents matter most. Your ordinary passport must be valid for at least six months from the date you arrive, and it must have at least one blank page for the entry stamp. The Thailand Digital Arrival Card is mandatory online registration for all travellers before arrival, and it is not a visa. You should also be ready to show proof of onward or return travel, and proof of accommodation and sufficient funds. These last two are not marked as critical, but immigration officers may ask for them, so keep copies on your phone and in print.
How do you complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card?
The Thailand Digital Arrival Card is completed online, before you travel. Non-Thai arrivals must submit it within 3 days before arrival. It is free, and it is not a visa. Indian government guidance recommends registering preferably three days before you arrive, which gives time to fix any errors. Use the official Thailand Immigration website, and keep the confirmation with your travel documents. Our packages include visa assistance, and your planner can help you check the details.
What happens at the immigration counter?
On arrival at Phuket or Krabi airport, present your passport and your arrival information to Thai immigration. Have your return or onward ticket and your accommodation details ready. The officer may ask the purpose of your visit and how long you plan to stay. Answer clearly and keep your documents in one place so the process is quick.
Can you extend your stay?
The 30-day exemption can be extended, subject to approval by a Thai Immigration Office. The official immigration fee for an extension is 1,900 Thai baht, according to the information we hold. The permitted extension period and the approval process are not confirmed here, so check with the immigration office or the official source before you rely on an extension. Do not assume an extension will be granted. Apply well before your 30 days end.
What mistakes should you avoid?
- Assuming the old 60-day exemption still applies. Use the current 30-day limit from 15 September 2026.
- Skipping the arrival card. Register online before arrival, ideally 3 days in advance, so immigration clearance is not delayed.
- Using a passport with less than six months of validity or no blank page. Entry or boarding may be refused.
- Staying beyond 30 days without an approved extension. Overstay penalties and immigration action can apply. Depart within 30 days or apply for an extension before the permitted stay expires.

Yes, every Tripstor package includes visa assistance. Our packages are land-only and cover the hotel nights, transfers and sightseeing in your itinerary, and flights are booked separately.
