At a glance
Russia spans Europe and Asia, and most Indian travellers begin with its two western cities, Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Moscow is the capital, with the Kremlin, Red Square, historic churches, museums and an extensive Metro. Saint Petersburg, the former imperial capital, is known for the Hermitage Museum, canals, palaces and historic avenues. Direct flights may operate from Delhi and Mumbai to Moscow, depending on the schedule, while Bengaluru commonly needs a connection.
A first trip works best as six to seven nights in these two cities. Five days covers Moscow and Saint Petersburg at a steady pace, and seven days adds Peterhof and the Catherine Palace area. Ten days allows a Golden Ring trip to the historic towns of Vladimir and Suzdal, or a visit to Kazan and its UNESCO-listed Kremlin. Sochi and Lake Baikal suit longer trips, as they need extra planning.
Our packages include six nights in 3- to 4-star hotels on twin sharing, daily breakfast, local transfers and sightseeing as per the itinerary, and visa assistance. Choose Moscow St Petersburg 6N for a complete two-city plan, or ask us to customise one. Flights, the e-visa processing fee, insurance and extras are separate. For planning, read the Russia travel guide and the Russia visa guide for Indians.

Season guide
May to September is the best time to visit Moscow and Saint Petersburg, with the mildest weather and the longest daylight. June to August is busier, and July is the warmest month in Moscow, with highs near 32°C. Winter from December to February brings snow, sub-zero temperatures and very short days, which suits snow-focused travel. See the full best time to visit Russia guide for each month.
Day by day
Based on our Moscow St Petersburg 6N package. Your trip expert can stretch or shorten any day.
Arrive at Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO), the nearest airport to Moscow, and transfer to your hotel. Check in and rest after the journey. Keep the first evening light, with a short walk around central Moscow to get your bearings. Confirm that your e-visa dates match your entry date before you fly, and carry the approval with your passport.
Spend the day at Red Square and the Kremlin area, the historic centre of Moscow. Visit the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, then browse GUM, the historic arcade on Red Square. The centre is walkable, but distances are long, so use the Metro between sights. Keep the afternoon flexible, and rest during the hottest hours in summer.
Explore the Moscow Metro, whose stations are noted for their architecture, and then visit one major museum. Choose a single museum rather than several, and check opening days before you go. In the evening, walk the Arbat area for its streets and cafes. Pack layers, because temperatures change quickly between seasons.
Travel from Moscow to Saint Petersburg by train, as set in your itinerary, and allow time for check-out and station travel. Check in at your hotel in central Saint Petersburg. Spend the evening walking the canals and the historic avenues, such as Nevsky Prospekt. Tell your planner if you prefer an early or a late train.
Spend the morning at the Hermitage Museum, one of Saint Petersburg's major attractions. The museum is large, so choose the galleries you most want to see. Book popular entry slots in advance during summer. In the afternoon, walk to Palace Square and rest before an evening along the canal districts.
Travel to Peterhof, the imperial palace and garden complex near Saint Petersburg, known for its fountains and formal grounds. Check the fountain operating dates before the visit, because the main display is seasonal. Plan about one day for the visit, including travel. Return to the city for a relaxed evening and an early night.
Enjoy breakfast and check out. Use the morning for a relaxed walk along a canal or on Nevsky Prospekt. Your transfer takes you to the airport for your onward flight, which is booked separately, with enough time for check-in. Keep your visa, passport and insurance documents to hand for departure.
