Russia Trip Cost

Quick answer

A Russia trip costs more or less depending on trip length, hotel area and category, the season and what is included. Central Moscow and Saint Petersburg hotels cost more than outer districts. Flights, the e-visa processing fee and travel insurance are separate. Ask for a written quote that lists every inclusion and exclusion.

The cost of a Russia holiday depends on a few choices that you control. Trip length and hotel area have the biggest effect, followed by the season, the activities you add and how you travel between cities. Our packages are land-only, so international flights, the e-visa processing fee, travel insurance and some extras are arranged separately. This guide explains what drives the price, so you can compare quotes on the same basis and avoid surprises.

What is included in a land package?

Our land packages cover the hotel on twin sharing, daily breakfast, local transfers and sightseeing as per the itinerary, and visa assistance. The package we offer for Moscow and Saint Petersburg also includes the transfer between the two cities. Flights to and from Russia are not included, and nor are the e-visa processing fee, travel and medical insurance, meals not listed in the itinerary, or entry fees and activities not listed. GST is extra. Read the inclusions on each package page, because they decide what you compare.

See the Moscow St Petersburg 6N package for a seven-day plan across both cities, with the inclusions and the exclusions listed in full.

How does trip length change the price?

Trip length is the biggest driver. Each extra night adds hotel cost, transfers and sightseeing time. A five-day plan covers Moscow and Saint Petersburg at a steady pace, while seven to ten days gives a more comfortable schedule and room for Peterhof, a Golden Ring excursion or Kazan. Longer trips with Sochi or Lake Baikal also add domestic travel, which increases the total. A shorter trip costs less, but it leaves less time for the main sights, so match the length to your plan rather than to the price alone.

How does hotel area and category matter?

Hotel area and category shape the cost of every night. In Moscow, central hotels near Red Square and the Kremlin cost more than hotels on the outskirts. In Saint Petersburg, hotels near Nevsky Prospekt and Palace Square also cost more than hotels further out. Budget options include hostels and basic 2- to 3-star hotels, standard options are usually 3- to 4-star hotels in central areas, and premium and luxury options include 4- and 5-star hotels, some in the most central districts. Choose the area first, because it sets the walking time and the transport cost on each sightseeing day.

Our packages use comfort-category hotels on twin sharing. If you want a higher or lower category, tell your planner, and we will adjust the quote and the route.

How does the season change the cost?

Season has a clear effect. June to August is busier, and hotel demand and museum visits build up. Winter is quieter in the main months, but December and the New Year period are busier with festive-season crowds. May and September are shoulder months with milder weather and fewer visitors. Shoulder months can offer good value, provided you plan for the weather. Check the best time to visit Russia guide before you choose dates, because the weather and crowds change month by month.

What about flights and getting there?

Flights are the largest cost that sits outside our land package. Direct flights may operate from Delhi and Mumbai to Moscow, taking about six to seven hours, depending on the schedule. Bengaluru commonly needs a connection. The price of a flight depends on your departure city, the date, the airline and how far ahead you book. Read how to reach Russia for the flight details, and ask your planner to suggest timings that suit your package.

What about the visa and insurance costs?

Indian ordinary-passport holders need a visa or the unified e-visa before travel. The official source states that the e-visa carries a processing fee that is non-refundable, but the exact current amount could not be verified from the available official source. Check the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs e-visa portal for the amount before you pay. Travel insurance and the valid medical insurance that the visa requires are also separate costs, so ask your insurer for a policy that covers the Russian Federation for your full stay. See the Russia visa guide for Indians for the steps.

What about everyday spending?

Everyday spending covers meals not listed in the itinerary, entry fees and activities not listed, transport beyond the transfers in your package, shopping, laundry and tips. Russia's restaurants range from simple cafes to formal dining, so the cost of a meal depends on where you eat. Vegetarian and Indian restaurants are found mainly in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, and they may cost more than local options. Plan a daily budget that covers these items, and keep some money for unexpected costs.

How do payments work?

Foreign-issued bank cards may not work reliably because of financial restrictions. Carry a legally obtained payment alternative and some Russian rubles, and confirm the current arrangements before you leave. Plan how you will pay for meals, transport and entry fees before you travel, so that you do not depend on a single method.

How to compare quotes fairly

Use the same checklist for every quote, so you compare like with like:

  • The trip length and the number of nights in each city.
  • The hotel area, the category and the sharing basis.
  • The inclusions, especially breakfast, transfers, sightseeing and visa assistance.
  • The exclusions, especially flights, the e-visa processing fee, insurance and entry fees.
  • Whether GST is included or extra.
  • The season, the dates and the number of travellers.

A quote that lists every inclusion and exclusion is easier to compare than a low headline figure. Ask for a written quote before you pay.

Is a longer trip worth the extra cost?

A longer trip adds more time to see the cities, but it also adds cost. Five to seven nights covers Moscow and Saint Petersburg well. Ten nights or more suits travellers who want a Golden Ring trip, Kazan or Sochi, although those add domestic travel and cost. Choose the length by the places you want to see, and then compare the price for that plan.

How was this guide compiled?

This guide is compiled from published tourism, weather and transport information. It was last checked on 2 November 2026. Prices, fees and exchange rates change, so confirm current figures with your planner, your airline and the official sources before you book.

FAQs

Russia Trip Cost: FAQs

Short answers to what travellers ask about Russia.

What affects the cost of a Russia trip the most?

Trip length, hotel area and category, and the season have the biggest effect. Flights are the largest cost outside our land package. Choose the cities and the length first, then compare quotes on the same inclusions.

Are flights included in your Russia packages?

No. Our packages are land-only, so international flights are booked separately. Direct flights may operate from Delhi and Mumbai to Moscow, depending on the schedule. Our planners can suggest arrival and departure timings that suit your package.

Does the package include visa assistance?

Yes. Visa assistance is included. The e-visa itself is applied for on the official Russian portal, and the processing fee is paid there and is non-refundable. The amount could not be verified from the official source, so check the portal before you pay.

Is travel insurance included?

No. Travel insurance and the valid medical insurance that the e-visa requires are separate costs. Ask your insurer for a policy that covers the Russian Federation for your full stay, and confirm the wording before you apply.

Are meals included in the package?

Daily breakfast is included. Meals not listed in the itinerary are extra, so budget for lunch, dinner and snacks. Vegetarian and Indian restaurants are found mainly in Moscow and Saint Petersburg.

Is Russia expensive for Indian travellers?

The cost depends on the hotel area, the season and the activities you choose. Central hotels and peak-season travel cost more, while shoulder months and outer districts can reduce the total. Ask for a written quote that lists each inclusion.

Should I bring cash or cards to Russia?

Foreign-issued bank cards may not work reliably, so carry a legally obtained payment alternative and some Russian rubles. Confirm current payment arrangements with your bank or planner before you depart.

Is a longer trip better value?

A longer trip adds more sightseeing and more cost. Five to seven nights covers Moscow and Saint Petersburg well. Ten nights or more suits Golden Ring, Kazan or Sochi trips, which add domestic travel, so compare the total for the plan you want.
