About New Zealand

  • Our packages9 to 15 nights
  • Best timeDec to Feb
  • Visa for IndiansVisa required

New Zealand is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, made up of a North Island and a South Island. For Indian travellers it packs city life, geothermal landscapes, glaciers, fjords and alpine lakes into one holiday. English is the main language, and Māori is part of everyday public life, from place names to cultural performances in Rotorua. Our packages suit couples, families, groups and travellers who prefer scenery and nature-led touring.

Most itineraries start in Auckland and visit Rotorua for its geothermal sights and cultural evenings. From there, trips move south through Taupō and Wellington to Christchurch, then across to Aoraki/Mount Cook, Te Anau and Queenstown. Driving times are longer than map distances suggest, and roads run on the left. That is why our itineraries use fewer, longer stops rather than many short ones.

Flights are a separate cost. Most travellers from India connect once, usually through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Australia or Hong Kong. Choose from New Zealand Honeymoon 9N, New Zealand North and South 10N or Australia and New Zealand 15N, or ask us to shape a route around your dates. Our planners group sights by area so each day has one main focus. For a combined trip, also see our Australia tour packages. Read the New Zealand travel guide before you choose.

Our verdict

December to February is the warmest period, with highs of about 24°C to 25°C, and it is also the busiest and most expensive season. March to May and September to November offer fewer crowds and moderate prices, although the weather can change quickly. June to August suits snow sports, with highs of 15°C to 16°C. Day by day

Sample 10-day New Zealand itinerary

Based on our NZ Honeymoon 9N package. Your trip expert can stretch or shorten any day.

  1. Day1

    Arrival in Auckland

Land at Auckland Airport and meet your driver for the transfer to your hotel. Check in and rest after the long journey from India. In the evening, take an easy walk along the harbour. Keep the first night light, because the journey continues the next day. Share your arrival time with your planner so the transfer is ready on arrival.

    Night in Auckland
  2. Day2

Travel to Taupō and Huka Falls

After breakfast, travel to Taupō, the volcanic lake town. Walk to Huka Falls and watch the river from the lookouts. Check in to your lakeside base and spend the late afternoon at leisure. Ask your planner about a luxury lodge upgrade for this stay. Allow time for the journey, and stop for the views on the way.

    BreakfastNight in Taupō
  3. Day3

    Tongariro and the volcanic lake

Spend the day around Tongariro National Park, where the volcanic landscape is the main attraction. Track and shuttle times depend on the weather, so keep this day flexible and confirm the plan with your planner the evening before. If the mountain tracks are closed, the lake and Huka Falls make a good alternative.

    BreakfastNight in Taupō
  4. Day4

    Fly south to Queenstown

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Queenstown, set beside Lake Wakatipu. Check in to your lakefront hotel and take an easy walk along the water. In the evening, enjoy dinner with a view over the lake. Keep the schedule light, because the next days include longer drives. Your planner will confirm the flight times from your departure city.

    BreakfastNight in Queenstown
  5. Day5

Lakes, mountains and a scenic flight

Ask your planner to add a private scenic flight over the lakes and mountains, weather permitting. In the afternoon, enjoy the lakefront at your own pace, or add a jet boat ride if you want something active. Book scenic flights early, because they sell out in peak season. Rest time is built into the afternoon.

    BreakfastNight in Queenstown
  6. Day6

    Glenorchy drive and Lake Wakatipu

Drive along Lake Wakatipu to Glenorchy, with stops for lakeside views. The road is slower than it looks on a map, so leave early and allow time for photo stops. Return to Queenstown in the afternoon for a spa break or a quiet dinner. Some travellers add the Crown Range drive on the way back, if the weather allows.

    BreakfastNight in Queenstown
  7. Day7

    Arrowtown and wine tasting

Visit Arrowtown, a historic town near Queenstown, for a short walk through its old streets. In the afternoon, enjoy a wine-tasting session, which is part of this itinerary. Keep the evening free, because the next day is a long road journey to Milford Sound. Pack a warm layer, as evenings by the lake can be cool.

    BreakfastNight in Queenstown
  8. Day8

Milford Sound cruise and overnight in Te Anau

Drive south to Milford Sound for a cruise through the fjord, past waterfalls and often seals. The road from Queenstown is long, so start early and allow time for stops. Stay overnight in Te Anau, so the visit is not rushed. Low cloud can change the views, so the atmosphere varies from day to day.

    BreakfastNight in Te Anau
  9. Day9

    Return to Queenstown

Drive back to Queenstown at a relaxed pace, with time to stop at the lake. Spend the afternoon on a last lakeside walk or a spa visit. Use the evening for a final dinner together, and pack a light bag for the morning, because the departure day starts early. Use the afternoon for a lakeside café or a short walk.

    BreakfastNight in Queenstown
  10. Day10

    Departure from Queenstown

Enjoy breakfast and check out. Your driver takes you to the airport for departure, leaving enough time for check-in. Your domestic and international flights are booked separately, so confirm timings with your planner before you travel. Your planner will confirm departure time and transfer details before you fly. Keep your passport and visa approval in your hand luggage.

Budget guide

How much does a New Zealand trip cost?

Starting prices of our packages, per person on twin sharing, excl. GST and flights.

Four groups of cost decide the total. Hotel category and area come first, from 3-star city hotels to luxury lodges. Car rental, fuel and one-way drop charges come next on self-drive routes. Domestic flights and paid activities, such as glacier flights or jet boating, add more. Peak season from Christmas to February raises rates and limits vehicle availability. FAQs

New Zealand tour package FAQs

Quick answers to what travellers ask before booking a New Zealand trip. Ask your trip expert anything else.

How many days are enough for New Zealand?

Seven days covers a compact North or South Island route with fewer long drives. Ten to fourteen days suits both islands properly, including Rotorua, Queenstown and Milford Sound. Plan one main area per day, and allow extra time for mountain roads and changing weather between stops.

What is the best time to visit New Zealand?

December to February is best for warm-weather touring, with highs of about 24°C to 25°C. March to May and September to November bring fewer crowds and moderate prices. June to August suits snow sports, though conditions in mountain areas change quickly.

Do Indians need a visa for New Zealand?

Yes. Indian passport holders generally need a New Zealand Visitor Visa before travel, and the NZeTA is not normally sufficient. You can apply online through Immigration New Zealand or a Visa Application Centre in India. Our packages include visa assistance, and the visa fee is paid separately.

Do your New Zealand packages include flights?

No. Our packages are land-only and cover hotels, private transfers and the sightseeing in your itinerary. International flights are booked separately, and domestic flights are quoted separately too. Our planners can suggest one-stop routings through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Australia or Hong Kong from your city.

Which places are included in New Zealand tour packages?

Common routes include Auckland, Rotorua, Taupō, Wellington, Christchurch, Aoraki/Mount Cook, Te Anau and Queenstown, with Milford Sound as a day trip from Te Anau. Each package lists its own cities and nights. Franz Josef Glacier can be added on a West Coast route, and we can customise any stop.

Is New Zealand good for a honeymoon?

Yes. Queenstown, Milford Sound, Lake Tekapo, Rotorua and luxury lodges support scenic, experience-led honeymoons. Common honeymoon additions include a Milford Sound cruise, a private scenic flight, wine tasting and a lakefront stay. March, April, November and December suit honeymoon plans best.

Is New Zealand expensive for Indian tourists?

It can be. Accommodation, car rental, fuel, domestic flights and adventure activities are the main costs. Long-haul flights add to the total. Travelling in shoulder seasons, using apartments and limiting domestic flights can help. Peak season from Christmas to February is usually the most expensive period.

Can Indian tourists drive in New Zealand?

Yes, with a valid Indian driving licence. An approved English translation or an International Driving Permit may also be needed, depending on the licence. Drivers must keep left. Mountain roads and long distances take longer than map distances suggest, so allow extra time between stops.

Are there direct flights from India to New Zealand?

Current schedules generally show no direct service from India to Auckland. Travellers usually connect through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Australia, Hong Kong or the Gulf. Total travel time is often 16 to 20 hours, depending on your departure city. Build in a transit buffer and check baggage rules for combined tickets.

Which islands should a first-time visitor cover?

A first trip often covers the North Island, with Auckland and Rotorua, plus the South Island, with Queenstown and Milford Sound. Seven days suits one island well. Ten to fourteen days suits both islands properly. Avoid packing too many stops into a short trip, because long drives fill the day quickly.
