Georgia is generally a mid-budget destination. Food, public transport and guesthouse stays can be good value, while private vehicles, boutique hotels and winter resorts raise the total. There is no single standard price for a Georgia holiday, and quotes vary with dates, group size and inclusions. This guide explains what drives the cost, what is usually included, and how to compare quotes fairly. It does not list one headline figure, because that would not match your trip.
What drives the cost of a Georgia trip?
- Season: July to August and the winter ski period, roughly December to February, create the strongest demand for hotels in mountain and coastal areas. May to June and September to October usually balance value and conditions.
- Hotel area and category: Tbilisi's Old Town and Vera offer good-value 3- and 4-star stays, while Rustaveli and Freedom Square suit 4- and 5-star hotels. Luxury stays include boutique hotels and resort properties in Kakheti.
- Trip length: more nights add accommodation and transport. Five to seven nights is the usual range for a first trip.
- Transport: a private vehicle is preferable for Kazbegi, Kakheti and remote mountain routes. This adds cost compared with shared transport, but it saves time and reduces the risk of missed connections.
- Extras: wine tastings, guided excursions, ski passes, spa visits and premium dining raise the total.
- Flights: international flights from India are extra and vary by season and connection. Our packages do not include them.
Stay areas and hotel categories
Georgia's hotels run from guesthouses to 5-star and resort properties. Budget stays are usually 3-star, with breakfast included, in Old Tbilisi, Avlabari, Vera and the Batumi Old Boulevard. Standard 4-star stays are in Old Tbilisi, Rustaveli, Vera and the Batumi Boulevard. Premium 5-star stays are concentrated in Rustaveli, Vera, Old Tbilisi and Shekvetili. Luxury properties include boutique hotels in Vera, Sololaki and Freedom Square, and resorts in Kakheti. Breakfast is standard on most rates, and some resort packages offer more meals on request.
Local transport costs
Tbilisi has an inexpensive metro, buses and app-based taxis. A standard public-transport journey costs about GEL 1, and short app-taxi rides usually cost about GEL 5 to GEL 15. Intercity travel is commonly by private car, shared marshrutka or train. Marshrutka rides are inexpensive, but they can be slow and crowded, and they are not practical for every mountain village. For Kazbegi, Kakheti and remote routes, a private vehicle with a driver saves time and gives you control over stops.
Money: cash and cards
The Georgian lari is the currency. Cards are widely accepted in Tbilisi and in larger hotels and restaurants. Cash is useful for marshrutka rides, small cafes, village purchases and mountain areas. Exchange rates change, so check the current rate before you travel, and compare how much you receive before you exchange money. Keep some cash on hand for trips outside the main towns.
How to keep costs in check
- Travel in April to May or October to November, when value is usually better.
- Use guesthouses outside Tbilisi for lower-cost nights.
- Combine rail and marshrutka on routes where they run well.
- Book flights early, because fares rise closer to the date.
- Choose shared day tours for Kakheti and Mtskheta if you do not need a private guide.
- Avoid stacking several long road transfers into a short trip, because that adds driver time and fatigue.
What is included in our packages?
Our Georgia packages are land-only. Each one covers the hotel nights, daily breakfast, airport transfers and private-vehicle sightseeing as per the itinerary, and visa assistance. Flights, meals not listed, entry fees and activities not listed, travel insurance and personal expenses are extra. Each package page shows an approximate price per person on twin sharing, excluding GST, and your planner confirms the exact quote before you pay.
Peak season and shoulder season
Peak demand comes in July and August, when Kazbegi and the coast are busy, and in the ski period from late December to February, when Gudauri fills up. Shoulder months, such as May, June, September and October, give you good conditions and better value. The difference is most visible in hotel rates, so book early if your dates are fixed.
How to compare quotes fairly
Ask each provider for a written quote that lists every inclusion and exclusion. Check the hotel area, the number of nights and the meal basis. Confirm whether transfers are private and whether sightseeing is included as per the itinerary. Ask whether winery visits, ski passes or spa visits are included. Compare the total journey time as well as the fare, because a lower fare with a long layover can cost more in time and rest.
How was this guide compiled?
This guide is compiled from published tourism, weather and transport information and traveller reports about Georgia, and was last checked on 2 November 2026. Prices, fares, exchange rates and hotel rates change, so confirm details before you book.
