About this trip

Georgia Highlights 6N is a six-night trip that covers the country's main sights in a steady order: Tbilisi, Mtskheta, Kazbegi and Kakheti. It suits first-time visitors, families and couples who want mountains, churches and wine country without changing their base every night. You stay two nights in each of three places, so each area gets enough time.

The route starts in Tbilisi, with the Old Town, the sulphur baths and Narikala Fortress. On the third day you visit the churches of Mtskheta, then drive north to Kazbegi for Gergeti Trinity Church and Greater Caucasus views. After two nights in the mountains, you travel back through Tbilisi to Kakheti for cellars, qvevri wine and time in Sighnaghi or Telavi. The final morning returns you to Tbilisi for your flight.

Everything on the ground moves by private vehicle, with breakfast daily, airport transfers, sightseeing as per the itinerary and visa assistance. Mountain road conditions and weather can change the timing of the drive, so the plan leaves room to adjust. Flights, other meals, entry fees for activities not listed, travel insurance and personal expenses are extra.

  • Tbilisi Old Town, Narikala Fortress and the sulphur baths
  • Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in Mtskheta
  • Gergeti Trinity Church and Greater Caucasus views from Kazbegi
  • A Kakheti day of cellar visits, qvevri winemaking and vineyards
  • Two nights in Sighnaghi or Telavi for the wine region

Day-by-day itinerary

Your trip expert can stretch, shorten or swap any day.

  1. Day 1: Arrival in Tbilisi

Land at Tbilisi International Airport and transfer to your hotel by private vehicle. Check in, rest and take an easy evening walk in the Old Town. Keep the first day light, so you are fresh for the drives ahead. Ask your hotel or planner about a local SIM for maps and ride-hailing.

    BreakfastNight in Tbilisi
  2. Day 2: Tbilisi Old Town and the sulphur baths

Spend the day in Tbilisi. Walk the Old Town, visit the sulphur-bath district and climb toward Narikala Fortress for views over the city. Return after dark, when the courtyards and bath district are more atmospheric. Use the metro or a short app-taxi ride between areas, and keep some cash for small purchases.

    BreakfastNight in Tbilisi
  3. Day 3: Mtskheta and the drive to Kazbegi

Leave Tbilisi by private vehicle for Mtskheta, Georgia's ancient ecclesiastical capital. See Jvari Monastery first for its light and river view, then visit Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in the town. Continue along the Georgian Military Highway to Kazbegi and check in for two nights. Allow extra time, because snow or traffic can slow the road.

    BreakfastNight in Kazbegi
  4. Day 4: Gergeti Trinity Church and Kazbegi

Start early for Gergeti Trinity Church above Kazbegi, with the Greater Caucasus rising behind it. Morning is usually the clearest time, because afternoon cloud can hide the peak of Mount Kazbek. Keep the afternoon flexible, and rest or walk through the mountain village. The second night gives you a clear morning, rather than a rushed day return.

    BreakfastNight in Kazbegi
  5. Day 5: Drive to Kakheti via Tbilisi

Return by private vehicle through Tbilisi and continue toward Kakheti, Georgia's main wine region. Check in at your hotel in Sighnaghi or Telavi, then take a short walk around the town. Enjoy a Georgian dinner in the evening. Allow time for the road, because mountain weather can change quickly. Confirm the timing of the day's drive with your driver.

    BreakfastNight in Kakheti
  6. Day 6: Kakheti cellars and qvevri wine

Spend the day visiting cellars and vineyards with a prearranged driver. Learn about qvevri winemaking, where wine is made and aged in clay vessels. Winery visits are booked in advance, because spontaneous tastings are less reliable outside the main towns. Rest in the evening, as the next morning begins the transfer back to Tbilisi.

    BreakfastNight in Kakheti
  7. Day 7: Departure from Tbilisi

Enjoy breakfast in Kakheti and check out. Your driver takes you back to Tbilisi and on to Tbilisi International Airport, leaving enough time for the road and check-in. If your flight is later, plan a relaxed final stop in the Old Town before you leave the city. Check your flight time with your planner before you leave Kakheti.

Destinations covered

Good to know

  • Six nights in total: two in Tbilisi, two in Kazbegi and two in Kakheti.

  • Kazbegi is a two-night stay, not a day trip, so weather delays on the road do not put your flight at risk.

  • Mountain road conditions can change quickly, especially in winter and in the shoulder months.

  • Book winery visits in advance, since the Kakheti day depends on a prearranged driver.

  • May, June, September and October suit most of this route; July and August are hot in Tbilisi and busy in Kazbegi.

  • Keep some cash for small purchases, such as village cafes and marshrutka rides.

  • Breakfast is included daily; other meals are extra.

  • Flights are not included and are booked separately.

  • Entry fees, activities not listed, travel insurance and personal expenses are extra.

FAQs

Georgia Highlights 6N: FAQs

What travellers ask about this trip. Your trip expert can answer anything else.

Is six nights enough to see the highlights of Georgia?

Six nights covers Tbilisi, Mtskheta, Kazbegi and Kakheti at a steady pace, with two nights in each area. Three days would be tight. Seven or more nights let you add Borjomi, Batumi or a spa stop. This route gives each area enough time without rushing.

Why does the route stay two nights in Kazbegi?

A two-night stay gives you a clear morning for Gergeti Trinity Church, when views are usually clearest. It also protects your schedule. If the Georgian Military Highway is delayed by snow or traffic, you still have a planned day in the mountains rather than a rushed return.

Can I do Kazbegi as a day trip instead?

A day return is possible, but it is less reliable. Snow, traffic or landslides can delay the road, and afternoon cloud can hide the mountain views. Our package uses an overnight stay so that you are not rushing back to Tbilisi in the afternoon.

What happens on the wine day in Kakheti?

You spend the day visiting cellars and vineyards with a prearranged driver. Cellar visits and qvevri wine tastings are booked in advance. Lunch and extra tastings are not included unless your itinerary says so. Your planner confirms the day's visits before you travel.

Are the Mtskheta churches open to visitors?

Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral are part of the Mtskheta sightseeing in this package. Dress modestly and allow time for quiet visits. Opening times can vary, so your driver or guide will confirm them on the day of your visit.

What should I pack for this trip?

Pack layers for changing mountain weather, comfortable walking shoes, a light scarf for church visits and sun protection for summer days. Carry some cash for small purchases in villages. Your planner can advise on seasonal clothing for the dates you choose.
