Malaysia Visa for Indians

Quick answer

Indian nationals can currently enter Malaysia visa-free for tourism, social, business or transit visits of up to 30 days, until 31 December 2026. You need a passport valid for at least six months, a Malaysia Digital Arrival Card completed within three days before arrival, and proof of onward travel and funds. The policy is time-limited, so confirm it with Malaysian Immigration before you book.

Facts checked 2 Nov 2026

Indian nationals do not need a visa to visit Malaysia for eligible short trips at present. Malaysian Immigration allows tourism, social, business and transit visits of up to 30 days under the current arrangement, which runs until 31 December 2026. The rule still depends on your passport, your arrival card and the officer at immigration, so you should prepare the right documents before you fly. This guide explains what the visa-free entry covers, what to carry, how to complete the arrival card and what to check before you book.

Do Indians need a visa for Malaysia?

Not for an eligible short visit, under the current policy. According to Malaysian Immigration, Indian nationals may enter visa-free for tourism, social, business or transit visits of up to 30 days. This means a typical holiday does not need a visa application.

Visa-free entry is not the same as automatic entry. You still need a valid passport, and you must complete the arrival card. Immigration officers can ask you to show your onward travel, accommodation and funds. Carry the documents listed below, so you can answer their questions clearly.

What does visa-free entry cover?

The visa-free arrangement covers tourism, social, business and transit visits. A holiday, family visit or short business meeting fits within it, as long as your stay is up to 30 days. The arrangement names these four purposes, so check the rules separately for any other purpose.

The policy runs until 31 December 2026. It is time-limited, which means the rules can change before or after that date. Check the official notice from the Malaysian Immigration Department before you book flights and hotels, and again close to your travel date.

Which documents should you carry?

Prepare these documents before you fly:

  • Passport: valid for at least six months from your date of entry.
  • Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC): completed within three days before you arrive. It is free.
  • Onward or return ticket: a confirmed flight out of Malaysia.
  • Accommodation details: your hotel booking, or the address where you will stay.
  • Proof of funds: evidence that you can cover your stay.

Keep printed or saved copies of these documents with you. Travellers often say that entry paperwork such as the arrival card, proof of accommodation and onward-ticket details should be ready before the flight, not at the airport.

How do you complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card?

The arrival card is free. Complete it online within three days before you arrive. Enter your passport details, your travel dates and your accommodation. Enter your onward or return travel details exactly as they appear on your ticket.

Save a copy of the confirmation. If your accommodation changes after you complete the card, keep the new hotel booking with you for the immigration check.

How long can you stay?

The visa-free entry allows up to 30 days for an eligible visit. Plan your return flight within that limit. If you plan a longer trip, such as a 14-day route with a Borneo extension, make sure your total stay stays within the allowed period and that your return ticket matches your dates.

Our itineraries are built within this limit. A five-night package, for example, is well inside the 30-day allowance.

What about visa assistance and fees?

Visa assistance is included in our Malaysia packages. Our planners help you check your documents and the arrival card before you travel. Flights, domestic flights, travel insurance and other costs are not included in the package price. If the entry policy changes and a visa fee applies, that fee is extra, so ask your planner before you book.

Our packages are land-only. Your hotel, transfers and sightseeing as per the itinerary are covered, and visa assistance is part of the service. Check your quote for the full list of inclusions.

What mistakes should you avoid?

  • Assuming the policy will not change. The current arrangement is time-limited, so confirm it before you book.
  • Arriving with a passport that has less than six months of validity. Check the expiry date on your passport before you book flights.
  • Leaving the arrival card until the airport. Complete it within three days before you arrive, while you still have time to fix any errors.
  • Forgetting the onward ticket. Carry a confirmed flight out of Malaysia.
  • Booking a same-day international departure after a boat transfer. Plan an overnight buffer in Kuala Lumpur before your flight home.

How can you confirm the rules?

Check the visa requirement for Indian nationals on the Malaysian Immigration Department website, which is the official source for entry rules. The official page is listed as imi.gov.my. Check it before you book, and again before you travel, because entry rules can change faster than destination guides.

Your airline may also ask for proof of onward travel and accommodation at check-in. Keep these details ready, and carry the same information you entered on your arrival card.

How was this guide compiled?

This guide is based on the entry information published by Malaysian Immigration, and on traveller reports about entry paperwork. It is not legal advice. It was last checked on 2 November 2026. Confirm the current rules with the official source before you book.
