Singapore + Malaysia travel guide
A Singapore and Malaysia trip costs more in Singapore than in Malaysia, mainly because of hotels, dining, attractions and transport. Hotel area and star category, trip length, Universal Studios tickets and peak dates move the price most. Our packages are land-only, so flights and visa fees are separate. Ask for a written quote that lists each inclusion.

The cost of a Singapore and Malaysia trip depends on a few clear choices. Singapore sets the price floor, because its hotels, dining and attraction tickets usually cost more than those in Malaysia. Malaysia offers better value on accommodation and meals, but Kuala Lumpur can feel close to Singapore levels in some areas and seasons. This guide explains the main price drivers, so you can compare quotes on the same basis.
Our tour packages are land-only. They cover hotels, transfers and the sightseeing listed in the itinerary. International flights, visa fees, travel insurance, personal expenses and any attraction or meal not listed are separate. Keep this in mind when you compare any quote, including ours and those from other providers.
Think of the total cost as five blocks. Flights are the largest and are booked separately from our land packages. Hotels usually come next, followed by transfers, attraction tickets and meals. Visa fees, travel insurance and personal spending make up the rest. In a land-only package, the hotel and transfer lines carry most of the cost difference between one quote and another.
Hotel location is the biggest single driver. In Singapore, the Marina Bay and City Hall areas and the Raffles Place district sit at the premium end, while Lavender, Jalan Besar and Little India offer budget and standard options. Bugis, Clarke Quay and the Orchard fringe are common middle-range bases. Each area has its own transport access, so compare the MRT and walking time as well as the room price.
In Kuala Lumpur, KLCC and the Bukit Bintang area are the usual first bases. KL Sentral is a practical budget and standard option with strong rail links. Langkawi's resort coast is a separate, higher-priced area for beach stays. Choose a hotel category that matches your priority, whether that is location, space, or resort facilities.
Star category moves the cost in steps. Budget packages use 3-star hotels, standard packages use 4-star, and premium and luxury packages use 5-star hotels. A 5-star hotel in a central Singapore area costs more than a 4-star hotel a few stops away on the MRT. Ask your planner which category and area your quote uses, because the same star rating can cost very different amounts in different areas.
Singapore usually has higher hotel, dining, attraction and transport costs. Malaysia generally offers lower accommodation and meal prices. Travellers report, however, that Kuala Lumpur can feel nearly as expensive as Singapore, particularly for central hotels and attractions. Compare quotes by city and by date, not just by country.
Penang and Langkawi are often part of a longer trip. Adding them adds transfer legs and extra hotel nights, which raise the total. Count every transfer before you decide.
Singapore's MRT and public buses are the most economical ways to get around. Airport-to-city rail is about SGD 2, taxis commonly cost SGD 20 to 35, and ride-hailing is widely available. In Kuala Lumpur, the MRT, LRT, monorail, buses and ride-hailing all help you save time. The KLIA Ekspres takes about 28 minutes to central Kuala Lumpur.
Universal Studios Singapore, observation decks and other attraction tickets are usually extra. Reserve timed entry in advance, because popular slots can sell out. Private transfers cost more than coach, MRT or rail, so choose the transfer type that matches your budget and your group size.
The coach between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur commonly takes five to six hours, depending on border traffic. Allow at least half a day for the transfer, so plan the time as well as the money.
Yes. Prices rise around the December holidays, Chinese New Year, school holidays and major events. Weekend hotel demand also affects Singapore and the Kuala Lumpur to Genting Highlands road route. Dates outside the peak periods usually give you more room choice. For a month-by-month view of the weather, read our best time to visit guide.
Longer trips add nights, transfers and attraction tickets. A six-night trip covering Singapore and Kuala Lumpur costs less than a nine-night trip with three countries. Adding Penang, Langkawi or a third country also adds a transfer leg, which raises the total. Our research suggests that a seven-day trip is ideal for a first visit, while three days is tight.
Our packages include the hotel on twin sharing with daily breakfast, airport transfers, the Singapore to Kuala Lumpur coach transfer where it applies, the sightseeing listed in the itinerary and visa assistance. They exclude flights, visa fees, travel insurance, meals not listed, attraction tickets not listed, personal expenses and GST. Our package pages show an approximate starting price per person, twin sharing, so you can compare plans quickly. Quotes are approximate and confirmed in writing.
Our Singapore Malaysia Classic 6N and Singapore Malaysia Thailand 9N packages show how the price changes with trip length and the number of stops.
Start by checking whether each quote covers flights, because a land-only quote and a flight-inclusive quote differ widely. Check the hotel area and star category, the number of nights in each place, and whether breakfast is included. Confirm the transfer type, the Malacca or Genting day trip, and the attraction tickets. Ask whether visa assistance is included, and whether the visa fee is separate.
Ask for a written quote that lists every inclusion before you pay. Keep a copy of it with your booking. A quote that looks lower often leaves out a transfer, a ticket or a hotel category you expected.
Singapore uses the Singapore dollar (SGD), and Malaysia uses the Malaysian ringgit (MYR). Exchange rates change daily, so check the current rate before you travel. Compare what you receive before you exchange money or pay by card. Keep some local cash for hawker centres and small shops, and use cards or ride-hailing apps for larger payments.
This guide is compiled from published tourism, transport and pricing information and traveller reports. It was last checked on 2 November 2026. Prices, fees and exchange rates change, so confirm the current figures with your planner, the hotel and the attraction before you pay.

FAQs
Short answers to what travellers ask about Singapore + Malaysia.
Singapore has higher hotel, dining, attraction and transport costs, and its central hotels and attractions push the average up. Malaysia generally offers lower accommodation and meal prices, so the Malaysian leg of a combined trip often costs less per night.
Not always, but it can be close. Travellers report that central Kuala Lumpur hotels and attractions can feel nearly as expensive as Singapore. Compare quotes by area and date, and check the rates for the stay you want.
Flights are usually the largest cost, but they are booked separately from our land packages. On the land side, the hotel area and star category have the biggest effect, followed by transfers and attraction tickets.
No. Our packages are land-only, so flights and visa fees are separate. Visa assistance is included in the package, and we help with the Singapore application. Ask your planner for the current visa fee before you pay.
Yes. Prices rise around the December holidays, Chinese New Year, school holidays and major events. Weekend demand also affects hotel rates and the Kuala Lumpur to Genting Highlands road route. Book early for peak dates.
We do not quote coach fares here, because they change. The coach commonly takes five to six hours and is usually a lower-cost option than a short flight. Your planner confirms the transfer and any extra cost in your quote.
Only the sightseeing listed in your itinerary is included. Universal Studios, observation decks and other tickets are usually extra. Ask your planner to list each ticket and whether it is included or extra before you travel.
Check that both are land-only, or that both cover flights. Compare the hotel area, star category, breakfast, transfers, nights in each place and the attraction tickets. Ask for a written quote that lists every inclusion before you pay.
