How to Reach Singapore + Malaysia

Quick answer

Most Indian travellers fly nonstop to Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) from Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru or Hyderabad, in about four to six hours. Pune and Ahmedabad usually need a connection. From Singapore, Kuala Lumpur is reached by coach in about five to six hours or by a short flight. Flights are booked separately from our land-only packages.

Facts checked 2 Nov 2026

Singapore and Malaysia are well connected from India, and the two countries link easily to each other. The main gateway is Singapore Changi Airport (SIN), which has frequent nonstop services from several Indian metros. Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) serves Malaysia, and it is the usual exit point for a trip that ends in Malaysia. This guide explains which cities fly nonstop, how long the journey takes, how to move between the two countries and what to plan for on arrival.

Our packages are land-only, so you book your flights separately. Our planners can suggest timings and routes from your city. Read this guide before you choose a flight, because the arrival and departure times affect your first and last days.

Which Indian cities fly nonstop to Singapore?

Nonstop flights reach Singapore from several major Indian cities. The approximate flying times are below. Schedules change by season and airline, so check the timetable for your dates.

  • Chennai: about 4.2 hours. Frequent nonstop services on Singapore Airlines, Scoot and IndiGo.
  • Kolkata: about 4.2 hours. Direct services on selected schedules, on Singapore Airlines and IndiGo.
  • Bengaluru: about 4.5 hours. One of the shortest major Indian metro links to Singapore, with Singapore Airlines, Scoot and IndiGo.
  • Hyderabad: about 4.8 hours. Nonstop schedules may vary seasonally, on Singapore Airlines and IndiGo.
  • Mumbai: about 5.5 hours. Nonstop services on Singapore Airlines, Scoot and IndiGo.
  • Delhi: about 5.8 hours. Nonstop services on Singapore Airlines, Air India and IndiGo, with one-stop options as well.

Bengaluru is a useful base for short Singapore breaks, because it has regular connections. Chennai allows a morning departure, which keeps the first afternoon free in Singapore.

Which cities need a connection?

Pune and Ahmedabad usually need a connection. A typical journey is about seven hours of flying, plus the connection. For Pune, a connection through Mumbai, Bengaluru or Delhi is common. For Ahmedabad, connect through Mumbai, Delhi or Bengaluru, or ask about a single ticket to Singapore. A Mumbai positioning flight can be useful for Pune travellers, but leave a full buffer or use a protected connection.

Avoid self-transfers on separate tickets unless the layover includes substantial protection time. If one flight is delayed, a separate ticket does not protect your onward journey. Ask your planner to compare single-ticket options first.

How do you travel from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur?

There are two main options. The first is the overland coach, which commonly takes about five to six hours. Border traffic and immigration queues can extend the journey, especially at weekends. Allow at least half a day for this transfer when you plan your sightseeing. The second option is a short flight from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, which is booked separately and is not included in our land-only packages.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) is served by the KLIA Ekspres, which reaches central Kuala Lumpur in about 28 minutes. Use it to plan your arrival or departure from Malaysia.

Should you book an open-jaw ticket?

An open-jaw ticket arrives in one city and leaves from another. For this trip, that usually means arriving in Singapore and departing from Kuala Lumpur, or the reverse. It can save time and a return journey, because you do not need to backtrack. Compare open-jaw fares with a standard return before you buy, because prices and baggage rules can differ.

Check the baggage rules carefully if you combine separate low-cost tickets. A bag that is allowed on one ticket may not be allowed on another. Keep the times for each leg in your planner's notes, so the schedule stays clear.

What should you plan for on arrival?

Plan the first and last days around your flight times. Singapore arrivals are usually met by a transfer to the hotel, and Kuala Lumpur departures need time for check-in and immigration. Avoid booking a same-day flight after the coach from Singapore, and do not plan timed attractions on the day you cross the border. Keep a buffer of several hours for the border crossing.

Your passport must be valid for at least six months, and you need the right entry paperwork for each country. Singapore's SG Arrival Card and Malaysia's Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) must be completed within three days before arrival. See the visa guide for Indians for the full checklist.

How do you move around after you land?

In Singapore, the MRT and public buses are the most economical ways to get around. Airport-to-city rail is about SGD 2. Taxis commonly cost SGD 20 to 35, and ride-hailing is widely available. In Kuala Lumpur, the MRT, LRT, monorail, buses and ride-hailing cover most trips. Travellers often rely on a mix of these modes, so poorly timed connections can make a day tiring.

Ride-hailing is useful for transfers between places that are far from a rail line, such as Batu Caves or Genting Highlands. Ask your planner about the transfer type included in your package and any extra transfers you may need.

What is the planning checklist?

  • Choose a nonstop city if you can, and check flight times for your dates.
  • Book a morning flight from Chennai or another city where the timetable allows it, to keep the first afternoon free.
  • Compare open-jaw and return fares before you buy, and check baggage rules.
  • Allow at least half a day for the Singapore to Kuala Lumpur coach, or book a short flight.
  • Keep a buffer for border crossings, and avoid tight same-day connections.
  • Complete the SG Arrival Card and MDAC within three days before arrival.
  • Confirm your passport validity and the visa steps before you book.
