Many travellers from India report that Seychelles costs more than they expected. Accommodation, meals, ferries and activities can all feel steep, and even takeaway food may cost more than planned. This guide explains what drives the price, where you can save, and what to ask for when you compare quotes. It uses local currency figures where the research gives them, and your planner will confirm the figures for your dates.
What drives the cost?
Six factors matter most. International airfare is the largest single cost, and it is not included in our packages. Inter-island ferries and domestic flight sectors add to the total. An island-hopping itinerary costs more than a single-island stay, because each move adds transfers. Beachfront and private-pool accommodation, transfers and guided excursions, and peak-season inventory with meal-plan upgrades complete the list.
Where you stay changes the budget most
Budget stays are 3-star or licensed guesthouses, with breakfast included, on Mahé, Beau Vallon, Praslin and La Digue. Standard stays are 4-star, on Beau Vallon, Anse Royale and Praslin, with breakfast. Premium stays are 5-star hotels at Port Launay, Silhouette Island and Praslin, with breakfast or half board depending on the property. Luxury stays are 5-star villas or private-island resorts on Mahé, Félicité Island and North Island, with meal plans that vary by resort.
What does getting around cost?
Costs are indicative and depend on the operator and the booking date. Many short taxi rides on Mahé cost about SCR 300 to 800. Bus-oriented local travel costs about SCR 500 to 1,200 per day. A small rental car costs about SCR 1,000 to 2,500 per day. The ferry from Mahé to Praslin costs about SCR 900 to 1,500 one way. Buses are inexpensive but do not reach every resort conveniently, so taxis or private transfers may be needed.
What does food cost?
Food is a clear budget issue. Restaurant meals and basic takeaway can be surprisingly expensive, and imported food costs more than many travellers expect. Self-catering in a guesthouse with a kitchen reduces the daily bill. Plan meals into your budget from the start, and do not assume that a beach resort meal is cheap.
Does the season change the price?
Demand rises around European winter, Indian festive periods and school holidays. Beachfront and private-island inventory can sell out well before air seats, so peak weeks cost more and need early booking. April to May and October to November are commonly recommended months, so demand is steady across those periods too.
How does trip length change the total?
Each extra night adds accommodation and meals. Each extra island adds ferry tickets, transfers and time. Three days is tight for a Seychelles trip. Five to seven days covers Mahé, Praslin and La Digue at a steady pace, and ten days adds Curieuse and extra beach or hiking days. Fourteen days is usually too long unless you add remote-island or diving experiences.
What is included in our packages?
Our Seychelles packages are land-only. They cover hotel nights on twin sharing, breakfast, transfers, inter-island ferry tickets where listed, excursions in your itinerary and visa assistance. International flights are booked separately. The Seychelles Electronic Travel Authorisation fees, meals outside the itinerary, travel insurance and personal expenses are not included. The Seychelles Island Hop 6N package lists its inclusions in full.
Ways to keep the cost in check
- Use guesthouses and self-catering on Mahé or Praslin.
- Book ferries early, and use public buses on Mahé and Praslin when they suit your route.
- Limit private-island transfers and choose one main excursion per island.
- Pick shorter ferry sectors and calm-water beaches for families.
Ask for a written quote
Ask for every inclusion in writing: hotel category, meal plan, ferry tickets, transfers, excursions and visa assistance. Compare quotes on the same dates and trip length, since a lower price may leave out ferries or transfers. Our planners can explain each line, so you know what you pay for before you confirm.
