Seychelles is far from India, so the journey takes most of a day. Our research found no direct flights from the cities we cover, though seasonal or schedule-dependent direct service may appear, especially from Mumbai. Expect one stop through a Gulf, Indian or African hub, and check schedules early because they change by season. This guide covers the airport, flight times, hubs and getting around once you land.
Which airport do you fly into?
Seychelles International Airport (SEZ) on Mahé is the main international gateway. Airlines that serve routes from India include Air Seychelles, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways and Etihad Airways. Routes and schedules differ by airline and season, so compare options for your city before you book.
How long is the flight from India?
Flight times from the Indian cities we cover are approximate, and the connection time can change them.
- Mumbai: about 9 hours, usually one stop, with Air Seychelles, Emirates, Qatar Airways and Kenya Airways.
- Delhi: about 10 hours, typically one stop through Mumbai, Dubai, Doha or another regional hub.
- Chennai: about 10 hours, commonly one stop through Colombo or a Middle Eastern hub.
- Bengaluru: about 11 hours, usually one stop, with timings that vary by connection.
- Pune: about 12 hours, usually a domestic connection, most often via Mumbai.
- Hyderabad: about 12 hours, one stop, often with longer connection times.
- Kolkata: about 13 hours, one stop or two flight sectors through a major hub.
- Ahmedabad: about 13 hours, usually one stop through Mumbai or a Gulf hub.
Which hubs do the flights connect through?
Routes from India usually connect through Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Colombo or Mumbai. Each hub has its own schedules, so a route that works well from Delhi may not suit Bengaluru. Compare a single ticket with separate bookings, because self-connecting can put a missed ferry reservation at risk.
Booking tips for connections
Prefer protected connections, and avoid scheduling a tight same-day ferry transfer after arrival. Build an overnight buffer if you combine a domestic flight from Pune with an international ticket. Kolkata itineraries often involve more than one flight sector, so allow a generous connection time. Mumbai positioning may lower the fare, but protect the connection if you book the tickets separately.
How do you get around after you land?
On Mahé, metered taxis, rental cars, public buses and private transfers are the main options. Buses are inexpensive but do not serve every resort conveniently. Catamarans connect Mahé, Praslin and La Digue, while domestic flights and helicopters serve selected island routes. Reserve ferry seats early, especially in peak months, because the schedules are limited. Read the Seychelles trip cost guide for typical transport costs.
Do you need an authorisation before you fly?
Yes. Indian passport holders do not need a visa, but every traveller must obtain the Seychelles Electronic Travel Authorisation before departure. Complete it through the official Seychelles Electronic Border System before you book your flights. The Seychelles visa guide for Indians explains each step.
How should you plan the route?
Sequence the islands before you confirm hotels. Ferry schedules and check-in times can create an unplanned night on Mahé if you are not careful. Plan the arrival day lightly, because the airport transfer, check-in and first ferry booking all take time. Allow a buffer before your departure flight, so a delay on the last ferry does not cause you to miss the flight.
Plan your route with a planner
The Seychelles Island Hop 6N package moves you between Mahé, Praslin and La Digue, with ferry tickets included. Its last day is planned around the return to Mahé. Browse our Seychelles tour packages, or read places to visit in Seychelles to choose your islands.
How should you plan the first and last days?
Arrive with a plan for the first afternoon. Seychelles International Airport is on Mahé, and most packages include a private transfer from the airport to your hotel. Keep the arrival day light, and avoid booking an island move for the day you land. Travellers from Delhi and Kolkata should allow a long buffer after arrival before booking the Praslin ferry, because these routes often involve longer or multi-sector journeys.
On departure, leave the last ferry with margin. A morning crossing from La Digue or Praslin gives you time for the hotel-to-jetty transfer and any delay before your flight. Check your flight time against the ferry timetable before you confirm either booking.
How was this guide compiled?
