FAQs

Scandinavia & Finland Travel Guide: FAQs

Short answers to what travellers ask about Scandinavia & Finland (Lapland).

How many days do I need in Finland and Norway?

Five to seven nights suits one area well. Ten nights lets you visit Helsinki, Oslo and Bergen at a steady pace. Shorter trips work best if you choose one country, and longer trips suit travellers who want Lapland as well.

Is Finland or Norway safe for tourists?

Both countries are generally considered safe, with low violent crime. Watch your valuables in busy areas and transport hubs, prepare for icy roads in winter, and check weather before any outdoor activity or hike.

What language is spoken?

Finnish and Swedish are official in Finland, and Norwegian is official in Norway. English is widely spoken in cities, hotels, tourist sites and transport, so Indian travellers can usually manage in English.

What currency do I need?

Finland uses the euro (EUR), and Norway uses the Norwegian krone (NOK). Check the current rates before you travel, and compare how much you receive when you exchange money or pay by card.

Is Scandinavia expensive?

Yes, both countries are high-cost. Norway is especially costly for dining, hotels and transport. Season also matters, with April to May and September to October often cheaper than summer and the aurora season.

When can I see the Northern Lights?

The aurora season runs from late August to April. Peak viewing is often December to February or February to March. Sightings depend on clear skies and weather, so they cannot be promised.

Do I need a visa?

Our current research does not include verified visa facts for Finland or Norway. Confirm the entry requirement for your passport with the official source for each country before you book, and check again before you travel.

Can I visit Sweden or Denmark with these packages?

Not as part of our current packages. Sweden and Denmark are not covered in our research for this guide, so ask your planner to check the options before you add them to a trip.
