Egypt travel guide
An Egypt trip costs more or less depending on hotel area and category, Nile cruise category and sailing date, season, length and what is included. Flights from India, the visa fee, entry fees and guides are separate cost drivers. Egypt is generally good value for Indian travellers, but peak-season cruises and Red Sea resorts cost more. Ask for a written quote.

Egypt is generally considered a mid-range to good-value destination for Indian travellers. Local transport and casual dining are comparatively affordable, and shared touring can keep costs down. The main expenses are usually international flights, monument and museum entry fees, guided tours and upscale Nile or Red Sea stays. Prices vary widely by city, season and hotel class, so the same trip can cost very different amounts. This guide explains what drives the price, so you can compare quotes fairly.
Seven things change the total. The main ones are:
Season matters as well. December to February is the peak period for hotels, cruises and guides, and prices rise. Christmas, New Year and school holidays need earlier reservations.
Egypt's hotels run from 3-star budget stays to luxury 5-star and boutique properties. Budget stays are often in Downtown Cairo, Giza, Luxor's East Bank and Aswan's city centre. Standard stays are typically 4-star and cover Downtown Cairo, Zamalek, Giza, the East Bank in Luxor, the Aswan Corniche and the Hurghada resort strip. Premium 5-star stays sit in Zamalek, Garden City, Luxor's Nile frontage, Aswan Island and the Hurghada resort strip. Luxury stays are on the Nile Corniche, in Garden City, on Luxor's Nile frontage and in Aswan, and in resort areas such as El Gouna and Sharm El Sheikh.
Meal basis also changes the price. Budget stays are breakfast only, and standard stays add selected dinners. Premium stays can include breakfast and dinner on a cruise or on selected stays, and luxury stays offer breakfast only or a fuller meal plan with tailored dining.
A Nile cruise is one of the biggest choices in an Egypt budget. Cabin category, boat quality and the sailing date all matter. Lower-category vessels can cost less, but their maintenance can be inconsistent, and cabins vary widely in quality. Premium cabins and private suites cost more, and early reservations matter in winter. Sailing schedules can also change with river conditions, so confirm the timetable with the quote.
A cruise can replace one or more hotel nights, so compare the cost of a cruise with the cost of hotels and transfers for the same nights. A shared cruise or a rail or road transfer is a cheaper option for budget travellers, but it takes more planning.
Domestic flights connect Cairo with Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh, and they save a lot of travel time. Road transfers are cheaper per trip but take much longer, especially in the heat. Trains run on some intercity routes. Private air-conditioned vehicles with licensed guides are generally the most efficient option for multi-city touring, though the price varies with the route and the length of the day.
Ask whether monument and museum tickets are included, because they add to the total. Entry to Abu Simbel and the main museums is often a separate cost, so confirm it in writing. A licensed guide for Luxor and Aswan is worth the cost for many travellers, and so is a guided visit to the Pyramids. Also budget for tipping and small payments, which are a regular part of travel in Egypt. Carry small Egyptian-pound notes for these.
Local costs can be modest. Indicative urban ride-hailing fares are commonly EGP 80 to 250 for a trip within a city. Private full-day touring vehicles cost much more and depend on the route. Casual meals and local transport are comparatively affordable, while upscale dining and Nile cruise meals cost more.
Exchange rates change, so check the current rate before you travel. Compare what you receive before you exchange money or pay by card.
Compare quotes on the same basis. Check the hotel area and category, the cruise category and sailing date, the flights, the guide, the vehicle, the entry fees, the meal plan and the visa help. Ask whether tips and baksheesh are included, because they are not usually part of a fixed price. Ask your planner for a written quote that lists every inclusion. Our packages are land-only, and the quote will show exactly what is covered and what is extra.

FAQs
Short answers to what travellers ask about Egypt.
It depends on trip length, hotel class, cruise category and season. A short Cairo trip costs much less than a longer trip with a Nile cruise and Red Sea stay. Our packages are priced per person on twin sharing and exclude flights, so ask for a written quote for your dates.
Egypt is generally good value. Local transport and casual dining are comparatively affordable, and shared touring can reduce costs. Flights, entry fees and upscale stays are the main expenses, and peak-season cruises and resorts cost more.
Peak season, premium hotels, a higher cruise category, private guides and vehicles, and domestic flights add to the total. Entry fees for Abu Simbel and major museums are also extra in many quotes, so check what each quote covers.
Our packages list what is included, and entry fees for sites not listed in the itinerary are extra. Ask your planner which monument and museum tickets are covered before you book, because this changes the total.
Tipping is common for guides, drivers, porters and many services, and small payments are a regular part of travel. Carry low-denomination Egyptian pound notes. Ask your planner whether tips are in your quote, because they usually are not.
Indicative ride-hailing fares within a city are commonly EGP 80 to 250, depending on distance and traffic. Private full-day touring vehicles cost much more. Agree on the fare or use the app before you travel, and ask your planner about vehicle options.
For many travellers it is, because it combines accommodation with sightseeing and reduces hotel changes. Compare the cost with hotels and transfers for the same nights, then consider the cabin category and sailing date before deciding.
Hotel rates are usually lower from May to September, but the heat limits sightseeing. October and early November are often a good balance of comfort and value. Ask for quotes for your exact dates, because prices vary by season and inclusions.
