About this trip

Sri Lanka Wildlife and Beaches 7N is a seven-night route that adds a Yala National Park safari to a cultural and beach circuit. Seven nights is the practical first-trip length for the island, and this plan uses it to cover heritage, hill country, wildlife and the south coast without crossing the same ground twice.

You start in Negombo, then visit Sigiriya and Dambulla, Kandy and the Temple of the Tooth, and Ella. A night near Yala National Park gives time for a safari, where routes offer strong chances of leopards, elephants and sloth bears. The trip finishes with beach time in Mirissa and a night in Galle.

The package includes comfort-category hotels on twin sharing, daily breakfast, private airport transfers, the Yala safari and visa assistance. Flights, other meals, unlisted entry fees, any visa or ETA charge and insurance are extra. Read our things to do in Sri Lanka guide first.

  • A safari in Yala National Park, known for leopards, elephants and sloth bears
  • Sigiriya rock citadel and Dambulla
  • Temple of the Tooth in Kandy
  • Ella's viewpoints and the Nine Arch Bridge
  • Mirissa beach evening and a Galle Fort walk

Day-by-day itinerary

Your trip expert can stretch, shorten or swap any day.

  1. Day 1: Arrival in Negombo

Land at Bandaranaike International Airport near Colombo and meet your driver for the short transfer to Negombo. Check in and rest after the journey. Keep the evening easy, because the next days involve road travel. If your flight lands late, you will not lose a touring day. Flight delays happen, so share your flight details and we keep the transfer flexible.

    BreakfastNight in Negombo
  2. Day 2: Sigiriya and Dambulla

Drive to the cultural triangle. Climb the Sigiriya rock citadel for panoramic views and visit nearby Dambulla instead of returning to Colombo. Start early or at opening time to avoid heat and queues. Keep the afternoon free to rest, because the next days involve more road travel. Meals other than breakfast are not included, so ask your driver for local restaurant suggestions.

    BreakfastNight in Sigiriya
  3. Day 3: Kandy and the Temple of the Tooth

Travel to Kandy, the lake-centred highland city. Visit the Temple of the Tooth, scheduled around ceremony times, and walk by the lake. Kandy traffic makes short visits inefficient, so you stay overnight. Dress modestly at the temple, and keep the evening easy. Meals other than breakfast are not included, so ask your driver for local restaurant suggestions.

    BreakfastNight in Kandy
  4. Day 4: Hill country and Ella

Drive into the tea country and on to Ella, the easiest highland stop for active travellers. Short hikes, viewpoints and the Nine Arch Bridge are close by. Keep the afternoon light, because the next day starts the wildlife section and the road to the park is long. Meals other than breakfast are not included, so ask your driver for local restaurant suggestions.

    BreakfastNight in Ella
  5. Day 5: Transfer to Yala and safari

Travel towards Yala National Park and rest on arrival. Take a safari in the park, where routes offer strong chances of leopards, elephants, sloth bears and wetland birds. Sightings are never guaranteed, and congestion can reduce them, so an experienced tracker helps. Plan an early start on the park day.

    BreakfastNight in Yala
  6. Day 6: Mirissa beach

Travel to the south coast and settle into Mirissa, a compact base for swimming and sunsets. Spend the afternoon on the beach. Whale watching runs in season and leaves early, so it is an optional extra. Choose an operator with responsible wildlife-distance practices and keep the afternoon free. Meals other than breakfast are not included, so ask your driver for local restaurant suggestions.

    BreakfastNight in Mirissa
  7. Day 7: Galle Fort

Drive to Galle, the fortified old town with Dutch-era ramparts, boutiques and galleries. Walk the ramparts and the lanes. Stay inside or beside the fort for an evening atmosphere, because a short daytime photo stop misses the best dining and architectural light. Meals other than breakfast are not included, so ask your driver for local restaurant suggestions.

    BreakfastNight in Galle
  8. Day 8: Departure from Sri Lanka

Enjoy breakfast and check out. Your driver takes you to Bandaranaike International Airport for departure. Leave generous time for the road, because journeys in Sri Lanka are slower than map distances suggest. Ask your planner to match the day to your flight time. Share your flight time early, and the pick-up is planned around it. Meals other than breakfast are not included.

FAQs

Sri Lanka Wildlife & Beaches 7N: FAQs

What travellers ask about this trip. Your trip expert can answer anything else.

Will I see a leopard on the Yala safari?

Sightings are never guaranteed. Yala offers strong chances of leopards, elephants, sloth bears and wetland birds, but park congestion can reduce sightings. An experienced tracker improves your chances, and our planner can discuss less crowded parks if you want a second safari.

What does the wildlife and beaches package include?

Seven nights in comfort-category hotels on twin sharing, daily breakfast, private airport transfers and sightseeing, a Yala safari, the Sigiriya and Dambulla visit, Galle Fort and visa assistance. Flights, other meals, unlisted entry fees, any visa or ETA charge and insurance are not included.

Is seven nights enough for Sri Lanka?

Seven nights is a practical first-trip length. It covers the cultural triangle, hill country, a safari and the south coast. It does not leave time for the east coast or Jaffna, so choose ten or more nights if you want them as well.

Does the package include flights to Colombo?

No. Our packages are land-only, so flights are booked separately. Direct flights to Colombo are available from several Indian cities, with schedules varying by season. Your planner can suggest timings that protect the first touring day. Your planner confirms the details in writing before you pay.

When is the best time for this route?

December to March is generally best for the south coast and cultural triangle, and dry-season months suit wildlife viewing. Weather differs by coast, so check your dates with your planner and our best time to visit guide before booking. Your planner confirms the details in writing before you pay.

Is this package suitable for children?

Yes, for families comfortable with road travel. Early safari starts can be tiring for young children, so tell your planner the ages. Family rooms, shorter transfers and pool safety can be arranged, and a second night on the south coast helps.
