About this trip

Japan Family with Disney and USJ 7N is built around the two big theme-park days and fills the rest with easy, high-interest sightseeing. It suits families with children, and multigenerational groups who want safe, predictable transport and a steady pace. Travellers often say families should plan fewer stops per day, and this route is designed that way.

You spend three nights in Tokyo, with one full day at Tokyo Disney Resort and another for Asakusa and a teamLab-style attraction. Two nights in Kyoto cover Fushimi Inari and Kiyomizu-dera. A half-day in Nara adds the free-roaming deer. Two nights in Osaka include a full day at Universal Studios Japan. Each park gets its own day, because neither mixes well with other sightseeing.

The price includes seven nights in 4-star hotels on twin sharing, daily breakfast, airport transfers, Shinkansen travel as listed, local sightseeing transport and visa assistance. Park tickets, flights, other meals, the visa fee and insurance are extra. Read our Japan travel guide and the 7-day Japan itinerary for planning ideas.

  • A full day at Tokyo Disney Resort, kept apart from city sightseeing
  • Asakusa and a teamLab-style attraction in Tokyo
  • Fushimi Inari and Kiyomizu-dera in Kyoto, at a child-friendly pace
  • Nara Park and its free-roaming deer
  • A full day at Universal Studios Japan from an Osaka base

Day-by-day itinerary

Your trip expert can stretch, shorten or swap any day.

  1. Day 1: Arrival in Tokyo

Land at a Tokyo airport and transfer to your hotel. Check in and let the children rest after the long flight. Keep the evening light, with a short walk and an early dinner. A calm first night helps everyone cope with the time difference before the busy park day.

    BreakfastNight in Tokyo
  2. Day 2: Tokyo Disney Resort day

Spend the whole day at Tokyo Disney Resort. We plan it as its own day, because the park and the transit to reach it take substantial time and energy. Park tickets must be booked well in advance and are charged separately. Return to the hotel in the evening and keep dinner easy.

    BreakfastNight in Tokyo
  3. Day 3: Asakusa and a teamLab-style attraction

Visit Asakusa for its temple lanes and market streets, then spend the afternoon at a teamLab-style digital art attraction. With children, three or four stops a day is realistic, so we keep this day to two main visits. Entry tickets for the attraction are booked in advance and charged separately.

    BreakfastNight in Tokyo
  4. Day 4: Shinkansen to Kyoto

Take the Shinkansen to Kyoto after breakfast and check in. Many children enjoy the train ride itself. Spend the afternoon on a short, gentle walk near the hotel, and rest before the temple day. Keep hotel changes in mind and use luggage forwarding if you travel with several bags.

    BreakfastNight in Kyoto
  5. Day 5: Kyoto temples

Visit Fushimi Inari Taisha with its tunnel of red gates, and Kiyomizu-dera, early in the morning before the crowds arrive. Walk only as far as the family wishes, because Kyoto's temple sites involve long walks and steps. Keep the late afternoon free for rest or a quiet stroll.

    BreakfastNight in Kyoto
  6. Day 6: Nara and on to Osaka

Take a half-day trip to Nara to see Nara Park, Todai-ji and the free-roaming deer. Deer crackers do not guarantee the deer's behaviour, so keep food and maps out of reach. Continue to Osaka and check in, and enjoy Dotonbori's lights in the evening if energy allows.

    BreakfastNight in Osaka
  7. Day 7: Universal Studios Japan day

Spend the full day at Universal Studios Japan, reached from your Osaka hotel. Do not combine it with Kyoto sightseeing, because both need a full day. Entry products are booked in advance and charged separately. Plan breaks and an early dinner for younger children.

    BreakfastNight in Osaka
  8. Day 8: Departure from Osaka

Enjoy breakfast and check out. Your transfer takes you to the airport for departure, leaving plenty of time for check-in. Flights are booked separately, so confirm in advance whether you fly home from Osaka or return to Tokyo, and tell us so we can plan the last transfer.

FAQs

Japan Family with Disney & USJ 7N: FAQs

What travellers ask about this trip. Your trip expert can answer anything else.

Are theme-park tickets included?

No. Tokyo Disney Resort and Universal Studios Japan entry products must be booked well in advance and are charged separately. We plan the days around the parks and can help you book. Check the ticket type and date before you confirm.

Is this trip suitable for young children?

Yes, with a gentle pace. Japan has safe, reliable transport and interactive attractions. The plan keeps stops to two or three a day, uses one hotel per city and avoids combining a park with other sightseeing, which helps with tired children.

Why are the park days kept separate?

Tokyo Disney Resort and Universal Studios Japan each need a full day, and getting there takes time. Operators and travellers both advise against combining a park with city sightseeing, so each park has its own day in this plan.

How much walking is involved?

Japan involves more walking and station transfers than most travellers expect, especially in Kyoto. Families often reduce daily stops after the first day. Use strollers or carriers for small children, and ask us about luggage forwarding to cut baggage handling.

Can grandparents join this trip?

Yes. The Shinkansen and city trains are reliable, and the pace is steady. Kyoto temples and Nara involve walking and steps, so choose which sites to skip. Tell us about mobility needs, and we can adjust the plan.

Which months suit a family trip to Japan?

April, May, October and November are the most comfortable, though cherry-blossom and foliage weeks are busy and costly. Summer is hot and humid. Check the park calendar for your dates, and book hotels and tickets early.
