About this trip

Japan Cherry Blossom Special 8N is timed for late March and early April, when cherry blossoms draw Japan's biggest crowds. It suits couples, friends and photographers who want spring scenery. Blossom timing varies by region and by year, so we plan around the forecast and cannot promise a peak bloom on a given day.

You spend three nights in Tokyo, one night in Hakone for lake scenery and a chance of Fuji views, three nights in Kyoto and a final night in Osaka. Three Kyoto nights allow early-morning temple visits and a Nara day trip without changing hotels. Tokyo covers Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, Shibuya, Asakusa and Ginza, and Osaka ends the trip with Osaka Castle and Dotonbori.

The price includes eight nights in 4-star hotels on twin sharing, daily breakfast, airport transfers, Shinkansen travel as listed, local sightseeing transport and visa assistance. Flights, other meals, entry fees not listed, the visa fee and insurance are extra. Book early, and read our March guide and April guide for planning tips.

  • Cherry blossom viewing in Tokyo and Kyoto, with dates matched to the forecast
  • Meiji Shrine, Asakusa and Ginza in Tokyo
  • A night in the Hakone and Mount Fuji area
  • Three Kyoto nights for Fushimi Inari, Kiyomizu-dera and Gion
  • Nara Park and Osaka Castle

Day-by-day itinerary

Your trip expert can stretch, shorten or swap any day.

  1. Day 1: Arrival in Tokyo

Land at a Tokyo airport and transfer to your hotel. Check in and rest after the flight. Spring evenings are cool, so carry a light layer. Keep the first night easy, since blossom season makes the city busy and the next day is full.

    BreakfastNight in Tokyo
  2. Day 2: Tokyo west side: Meiji Shrine, Harajuku and Shibuya

Start at Meiji Shrine in its wooded grounds, then walk to Harajuku and Shibuya. Cherry blossoms begin in southern and urban areas in March, and peak timing varies by region. Expect crowds and long station walks, and keep the late afternoon free to rest.

    BreakfastNight in Tokyo
  3. Day 3: Tokyo east side: Asakusa and Ginza

Visit Asakusa's temple lanes and market streets, then see the Tokyo Skytree area. Spend the afternoon in Ginza. Blossom weeks bring Japan's biggest crowds and highest hotel prices, so we keep the day relaxed and book timed attractions in advance.

    BreakfastNight in Tokyo
  4. Day 4: Hakone and the Mount Fuji area

Travel to Hakone and the Mount Fuji area for lake scenery and hot-spring stays. Fuji views depend on the weather and cannot be promised. Keep the viewpoint day flexible. You stay one night here, and a ryokan upgrade can be requested.

    BreakfastNight in Hakone
  5. Day 5: Shinkansen to Kyoto, then Gion

Take the Shinkansen to Kyoto after breakfast and check in. Spend the late afternoon in Gion, Kyoto's traditional district. Seats are in high demand in blossom season, so travel times are fixed early. Keep dinner relaxed ahead of two temple days.

    BreakfastNight in Kyoto
  6. Day 6: Kyoto temples and gardens

Visit Kiyomizu-dera and Fushimi Inari Taisha before 8:00 or after 16:00, when crowds and bus congestion are lower. Spend the middle of the day in a quieter garden or resting. Blossom timing differs from year to year, so no peak date can be guaranteed.

    BreakfastNight in Kyoto
  7. Day 7: Nara day trip

Take a day trip to Nara to see Nara Park, Todai-ji, Kasuga Taisha and the free-roaming deer. Treat it as a walking day, and keep food and maps away from the deer. Return to Kyoto in the evening for a final night in the city.

    BreakfastNight in Kyoto
  8. Day 8: Kyoto to Osaka

Travel from Kyoto to Osaka and check in. Visit Osaka Castle in the afternoon, then explore Dotonbori's street food and canal lights in the evening. Pack tonight, and keep your passport and tickets ready for tomorrow's departure.

    BreakfastNight in Osaka
  9. Day 9: Departure from Osaka

Enjoy breakfast and check out. Your transfer takes you to the airport for departure, leaving plenty of time for check-in. Flights are booked separately, so confirm in advance whether you fly home from Osaka or return to Tokyo, and tell us so we can plan the last transfer.

FAQs

Japan Cherry Blossom Special 8N: FAQs

What travellers ask about this trip. Your trip expert can answer anything else.

When do cherry blossoms bloom in Japan?

Blossoms begin in southern and urban areas in March, and late March to early April is popular. Peak dates vary by region and year, so none can be guaranteed. We plan around the forecast and keep your plan flexible.

Can you guarantee blossoms during my dates?

No. Bloom timing depends on the weather and shifts each year. Our plan targets the usual window and uses Tokyo and Kyoto, which have different timing, so the chance of seeing blossom is higher. We cannot promise a peak bloom.

How early should I book for cherry blossom season?

Book as early as possible. Late March and April bring Japan's biggest crowds, higher hotel prices and strong demand for trains and attractions. Kyoto and Hakone hotels are confirmed first, and the rest of the plan is fitted around them.

Why are there three nights in Kyoto?

Kyoto is the main blossom and temple city. Three nights allow early-morning visits before the crowds, a Nara day trip and a slower day, all from one hotel. Short Kyoto stays force a rushed pace in a crowded season.

What is the weather like in spring?

March is mild but changeable, with highs near 14°C and lows near 6°C in Tokyo. April is warmer, with highs near 19°C and lows near 9°C. Pack layers and a light rain jacket, and expect some showers.

Is this package good for couples?

Yes. Couples often pick blossom season for its scenery. The plan has a Hakone night with a chance of Fuji views, quiet early-morning temple visits and an optional ryokan upgrade. Expect crowds at popular sights, and book dinners early.
