About this trip

Cape Town & Safari 7N pairs four nights in Cape Town with three nights in the Kruger area, the two places most first-time visitors from India want to see. It suits first-timers, couples and friends who want city views, a wine-country day and a Big Five safari in one trip. Travel is by private vehicle, with one domestic flight between the two regions.

Cape Town comes first. Days two and three cover Table Mountain, the Cape Peninsula and the V&A Waterfront, with a flexible day in case wind closes the cableway. Day four heads to Stellenbosch for estate tastings, and a driver takes you between estates. On day five you fly from Cape Town to Johannesburg and drive to the Kruger area for an afternoon game drive.

Kruger is the safari base for the last three nights. Morning and afternoon game drives run from the lodge, and sightings depend on the animals and the weather. You leave from Johannesburg on day eight. For planning, read the South Africa travel guide, places to visit in South Africa and South Africa trip cost. If you want Johannesburg and Soweto too, see the South Africa tour packages.

  • Table Mountain and the Cape Peninsula from a four-night Cape Town base
  • A Winelands day in Stellenbosch with cellar tours
  • A domestic connection from Cape Town to Johannesburg, then a drive to Kruger
  • Morning and afternoon game drives in Kruger National Park
  • Big Five chances, with sightings depending on the animals

Day-by-day itinerary

Your trip expert can stretch, shorten or swap any day.

  1. Day 1: Arrival in Johannesburg and connection to Cape Town

Land at O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, the main gateway for South Africa. Your planner confirms the connecting domestic flight to Cape Town shown in your itinerary. A driver meets you in Cape Town and takes you to your hotel in the city. Rest after the journey, then take an easy walk in the evening to get your bearings.

    BreakfastNight in Cape Town
  2. Day 2: Cape Town city and Table Mountain

Ride the Table Mountain cableway, which can close when the wind is strong, so keep this day flexible. If the cableway is closed, use the morning for a city tour instead. In the afternoon, walk the Bo-Kaap lanes and visit the V&A Waterfront. Use arranged transport after dark rather than walking between areas.

    BreakfastNight in Cape Town
  3. Day 3: Cape Peninsula by private vehicle

Spend the day touring the Cape Peninsula by private vehicle. Stop at Boulders Beach to see the penguin colony and at Camps Bay for coastal views. Pack sunscreen, a light jacket and water, because the coast can be windy. Return to Cape Town in the late afternoon and rest before dinner.

    BreakfastNight in Cape Town
  4. Day 4: Cape Winelands and Stellenbosch

Travel to Stellenbosch, the historic Winelands town with concentrated estates and cellar tours. Your driver takes you between estates, so no one needs to drive after a tasting. Lunch at an estate is a good way to spend the middle of the day. Return to Cape Town in the early evening and pack for the flight to Johannesburg.

    BreakfastNight in Cape Town
  5. Day 5: Fly to Johannesburg and drive to the Kruger area

Take the domestic flight from Cape Town to Johannesburg, as listed in your itinerary. Your driver then transfers you by road to the Kruger area and to your lodge. Settle in and join the afternoon game drive. Pack a warm layer, binoculars and a camera, because early morning drives can be cool.

    BreakfastNight in Kruger area
  6. Day 6: Full-day safari in Kruger National Park

Enjoy a morning and an afternoon game drive with an experienced guide. Early drives tend to be more productive than late starts, so keep to the early departure. Rest at midday during the warmest hours. Big Five sightings are possible in Kruger, but they depend on the animals, so enjoy the birds and smaller wildlife too.

    BreakfastNight in Kruger area
  7. Day 7: Morning drive and a lodge afternoon

Take one more morning game drive, then return to the lodge for breakfast and a rest. Use the afternoon for a quiet walk in the lodge grounds or a break by the pool. Ask your guide which gate and drive routes suit your interests, because cross-park drives can use up game-viewing time.

    BreakfastNight in Kruger area
  8. Day 8: Departure from Johannesburg

Have breakfast at the lodge and check out. Your driver takes you to Johannesburg for your onward flight, leaving enough time for the road and airport check-in. Most routings from India connect through Addis Ababa, Dubai, Doha or Nairobi, so confirm your departure time with your planner before the trip.

FAQs

Cape Town & Safari 7N: FAQs

What travellers ask about this trip. Your trip expert can answer anything else.

Is seven nights enough for Cape Town and a safari?

Seven nights covers Cape Town, a wine-country day and a short Kruger safari. Four nights in Cape Town and three in the Kruger area leave little room for slow mornings. Add nights if you want more time at either end. Ten to fourteen days suits trips that also include the Garden Route or Durban.

What does the Cape Town & Safari 7N package include?

Seven nights in comfort-category hotels on twin sharing, daily breakfast, private airport transfers and sightseeing by private vehicle, Kruger game drives as per the itinerary, and visa assistance. Flights to and from South Africa, the visa fee, travel insurance, meals not listed and personal expenses are extra.

Does the package include flights to South Africa?

No. Our packages are land-only, so international flights are booked separately. Our research shows no direct flights from India, so most routings take one stop through hubs such as Dubai, Doha, Addis Ababa or Nairobi. Our planners can suggest arrival and departure times from your city.

Which months suit this package best?

May to September is generally the strongest period for safari, because vegetation is thinner and animals gather near water. June and July are cooler in Cape Town, and whale watching starts around June. October to April is warmer and greener. Tell your planner which months suit you.

Is it safe to travel between Cape Town and the Kruger area?

Use the pre-arranged transfers and the domestic flight shown in your itinerary, rather than long road journeys or public transport between regions. Keep valuables out of sight, use registered transport after dark and follow your lodge's advice. Check current travel advice before you book.

Can I add Johannesburg or Soweto to this trip?

Yes. Johannesburg is the main gateway and a useful base for Soweto and the Apartheid Museum. The South Africa Classic 8N package adds a Johannesburg night and a Soweto tour. Ask your planner to adjust the Kruger nights if you want both.
