Dubai travel guide
A 3-day Dubai itinerary is tight but workable: Downtown Dubai with Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall on day one, Old Dubai and the Marina or Palm on day two, and a desert safari or Palm Jumeirah on day three. Skip Abu Dhabi, multiple theme parks and long excursions between emirates.

Land at Dubai International Airport and meet your driver for the transfer to your hotel. Check in and rest after the journey. In the evening, take an easy walk around Downtown Dubai to get your bearings. Keep the first night light, because the next days cover several areas.
Spend the day in Downtown Dubai, where Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall and the Dubai Fountain sit in one district. Your timed Burj Khalifa entry is booked in advance. Do not treat the mall as a short stop, because it can take half a day. Keep the afternoon flexible and rest during the hottest hours.
Start in Old Dubai before the afternoon heat. Walk the lanes of Al Fahidi with their wind-tower architecture, visit the souks and cross Dubai Creek by abra. Return to the hotel to rest, then head out in the late afternoon for an evening desert safari with dunes at sunset.
Drive to Palm Jumeirah for resort beaches and skyline viewpoints, and allow extra time for traffic across the Palm. Rest in the afternoon, then visit Dubai Marina and JBR after sunset, when temperatures are better and the waterfront is at its best.
Enjoy breakfast and check out. If your flight is later in the day, use the morning for a relaxed walk or last shopping. Your driver takes you to Dubai International Airport for departure, leaving enough time for traffic and check-in.
Three days is enough to see Dubai's highlights but not to relax. The verdict from our research is that it is tight: you can cover the main areas, but you have to choose carefully, skip Abu Dhabi and accept that some days will be full. This plan keeps one area per day and keeps the hottest hours flexible.
Start in Downtown Dubai. Pre-book timed entry for Burj Khalifa, visit Dubai Mall and see the Dubai Fountain, all in the same district. Do not spend the whole day in the mall: give it a few hours, then keep time for the skyline view. Choose one observation deck instead of several.
Spend the morning in Old Dubai, before the hottest hours. Walk through Al Fahidi, visit the souks and cross Dubai Creek by abra. In the evening, go to Dubai Marina and JBR after sunset, when temperatures drop. Allow extra time for weekend traffic between the two areas, which are far apart.
Choose one. A desert safari adds dunes and an evening experience, and you should check group size, activities, camp style and inclusions. Palm Jumeirah gives you resort beaches, the monorail and Atlantis for a more relaxed day. With only three days, you cannot comfortably do both without rushing.
Skip Abu Dhabi, multiple theme parks and long inter-emirate excursions. Abu Dhabi needs a full day plus traffic, which makes it a poor fit for three days. If you want Abu Dhabi, plan seven days.
The Dubai Classic 4N package is the ready-made version of this plan, with five days on the ground.
If you can add two days, the 5-day Dubai itinerary gives the Palm, the Marina and the desert their own days. See also best time to visit Dubai, and browse our Dubai tour packages.

FAQs
Short answers to what travellers ask about Dubai.
It is tight but workable for the highlights: Downtown and Burj Khalifa, Old Dubai and the Creek, the Marina or the Palm, and a desert safari. You will need to skip Abu Dhabi, and some days will be full.
Day one in Downtown with Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall, day two in Old Dubai and the Creek with the Marina and JBR in the evening, and day three on a desert safari or at Palm Jumeirah.
It is not recommended. Abu Dhabi takes a full day including roughly 90 minutes to two hours each way by road, which leaves too little time for Dubai's own highlights. Plan seven days if you want to include it.
Downtown Dubai is the most convenient base, near Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall with Metro links. Dubai Marina or JBR suits beach evenings. Choose a hotel near the Metro to cut transfer time on a short trip.
Choose one if you only have three days. A desert safari gives dunes and an evening experience, while Palm Jumeirah suits a relaxed beach and resort day. With five days you can do both comfortably.
November to March is the most comfortable for a short, packed itinerary. In summer, highs reach 39°C to 41°C, so plan outdoor activities for early morning or evening and use indoor attractions at midday.
