Australia travel guide
An Australia trip costs more than most Indian travellers expect, mainly because of accommodation, domestic flights and food. Hotel area, trip length, season and the number of cities change the total most. Our packages are land-only, so international and domestic flights are extra. Ask for a written quote that lists every inclusion.

Australia is a high-cost destination, and the price of a trip depends on a few clear factors: where you stay, how many cities you visit, when you travel and what you add on. Costs in Sydney and Melbourne are higher than in smaller cities, and summer holiday weeks cost more than the shoulder months. This guide explains what drives the total, what each category usually includes and how to compare quotes, so you can plan a trip that fits your budget.
Four factors shape most budgets. The first is accommodation, because hotels in central Sydney and Melbourne cost more than in regional towns and Cairns. The second is domestic flights, which are needed whenever you move between regions, such as Sydney to Cairns or Melbourne to Uluru. The third is season, since December to February and school holidays raise prices. The fourth is add-ons, such as reef cruises, scenic flights, theme park tickets and private tours. Each one is separate from the basic package, so compare them before you choose.
Accommodation falls into a few clear categories. Budget stays are usually three-star hotels on the edge of city centres, often breakfast-only, near airports or in the CBD fringe. Standard stays are four-star hotels in central areas such as the Sydney CBD, the Melbourne CBD, the Cairns Esplanade and Surfers Paradise, on a breakfast basis. Premium stays are five-star hotels, often in Sydney harbour or Melbourne Southbank, or Cairns Esplanade. Luxury stays include harbour hotels and remote lodges, such as those near Uluru, where meal plans vary by lodge.
Domestic flights are the largest variable after accommodation. Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin and Perth are connected by air, and prices change by route and booking date. Booking domestic flights early keeps the cost down. Within cities, trains, trams and buses are practical, and urban fares are indicative at AUD 3 to 6 per trip. Contactless bank cards and local transit smartcards are widely accepted. Rental cars suit regional routes, but distances are large, and parking and driving rules add cost.
Eating out is one of the clearest surprises for Indian travellers. Restaurant meals and cafe breakfasts usually cost more than in India. Supermarket meals, picnics and apartment stays with kitchens reduce daily spending. Many travellers budget as if Australia were Southeast Asia and then find meals and transport cost more, so plan a daily budget that covers food, local transport and small attractions.
Attraction and tour prices vary widely. A Blue Mountains day, a Great Barrier Reef day cruise, a Daintree tour, a Gold Coast theme park ticket and a scenic flight each have their own price. Reef cruises and scenic flights are often the largest single items. Compare what each operator includes, such as snorkelling gear, meals, transfers and entry fees, before you book.
Season has a large effect on the total. Summer holidays and Christmas to New Year are the most expensive, and hotel availability is lower. The shoulder months of April to May and September to October usually cost less. Peak demand also appears in July and August school holidays, especially for reef and northern routes. Book hotels, domestic flights and reef cruises early for these periods.
Ask for a written quote that lists the hotel category and area, the number of nights and the breakfast basis, the transfers and sightseeing, and every activity by name. Check whether domestic flights, visa fees, travel insurance and entry fees are included. A clear quote helps you compare options, and avoids surprises once you arrive.

FAQs
Short answers to what travellers ask about Australia.
The cost depends on hotel category, trip length, season and the number of domestic flights. Land-only packages vary widely, with the largest differences coming from accommodation and add-ons. Your planner can give you a quote for your dates, which lists every inclusion. International flights and visa fees are extra.
Generally yes. Accommodation, domestic flights, attractions and restaurant meals cost more in Australia. Singapore and Thailand are often cheaper for daily spending, while Australia's costs are more consistent across regions. Compare the total trip, not just the hotel price.
No. Our packages are land-only, so international flights to Australia and domestic flights between cities are booked separately. Our planners can suggest timings that fit the itinerary, and the quote shows which flights are extra.
Smaller cities and regional towns usually cost less than Sydney and Melbourne, which are often more expensive. Staying on the edge of a city centre can balance price and access. Prices also vary by area and season, so ask your planner to compare options for your dates.
Plan for restaurant meals that cost more than in India. Supermarket shopping, picnics and apartment stays with kitchens help control the cost. Balance a few special dinners with simpler meals, and keep a daily food budget that matches your travel style.
Urban fares are modest, with indicative costs of AUD 3 to 6 per trip in cities. Contactless cards work on most transport. Long-distance travel between regions is expensive, because it usually needs a domestic flight.
They are often the highest add-on costs, and many travellers consider them worth it for the reef and rainforest views. Compare what each operator includes, and choose one main add-on per region, so the trip stays within budget.
The shoulder months of April to May and September to October usually cost less than summer holidays or the July and August school holidays. Hotel availability is better outside peak periods, so ask your planner for a quote for your dates.
