Iceland travel guide

Iceland Trip Cost

Quick answer

Iceland is widely regarded as an expensive destination, so the total depends on hotels, season and trip length. Our packages are land-only and include visa assistance, so flights and visa fees are extra. September to November is often cited as cheaper and less crowded. Ask for a written quote that lists every inclusion.

Facts checked 3 Nov 2026

Iceland is widely regarded as an expensive destination, and the cost of a trip depends on several choices. This guide explains what moves the cost and what to check before you compare quotes. It does not give fixed prices, because prices depend on your dates, hotels and inclusions.

What moves the cost?

  • Season: September to November is often cited as cheaper and less crowded than summer.
  • Trip length: each extra night adds to the total.
  • Hotel choice: the hotel category and location change the price.
  • Transport: a rental car or guided tours outside Reykjavík add to the total, and public transport is limited.
  • Inclusions: sightseeing, entry fees and meals listed in your itinerary change what you pay for.

What is included in a Tripstor package?

Our Iceland Ring Road & Northern Lights 7N package is land-only. It includes seven nights in comfort-category hotels on twin sharing, visa assistance, and the sightseeing in the itinerary. See how to reach Iceland for planning your flights separately.

What is not included?

Flights to and from Iceland are not included. Visa fees are separate. Travel insurance, personal expenses such as shopping and tips, and GST are separate too. Meals, entry fees and activities that your itinerary does not list are extra. A rental car and fuel are extra unless your itinerary lists them.

How do you compare quotes?

Compare the hotel category, the number of nights, the transport plan and the list of inclusions. A low total can hide extra costs for transport, meals or entry fees. Ask for a written quote with every inclusion listed before you pay, and check whether the price is per person and whether it includes GST.

Money and exchange

The local currency is the Icelandic króna (ISK). Exchange rates change, so check the current rate on the day you book. Compare how much you receive before you exchange money or pay by card. Keep a note of the rate you used.

Ways to keep costs in check

  • Travel between September and November, when costs are often cited as lower.
  • Stay for the nights you need, and no more.
  • Choose the sights that fit your season and your route.
  • Compare written quotes side by side before you commit.

FAQs

Iceland Trip Cost: FAQs

Short answers to what travellers ask about Iceland.

Is Iceland expensive for Indian travellers?

Iceland is widely regarded as expensive. Season, trip length and inclusions decide how much you pay, so compare written quotes carefully before you book.

Which season is cheaper in Iceland?

September to November is often cited as cheaper and less crowded than summer. Prices also change with your dates, so ask for a quote for the exact dates you plan to travel.

What does a Tripstor Iceland package include?

Seven nights in comfort-category hotels on twin sharing, visa assistance and the sightseeing in your itinerary. The package is land-only, so flights and visa fees are separate.

Are flights included in the package price?

No. Flights are not included. In our research there are no widely established nonstop routes from India, so you will book connecting flights separately.

Are visa fees included?

No. Visa assistance is included, but visa fees are separate. We do not give a fee here, so check the official source for the current charge.

Is the price per person?

Ask your planner whether a quote is per person on twin sharing, and whether it includes GST, before you agree to anything. Get the answer in writing.

Do prices change by season?

Yes. Season and dates change prices, and availability for hotels and tours can change too. Ask for a quote for your exact dates.

How can I keep my costs down?

Travel outside the summer months, stay for the nights you need, and compare what each quote includes. A lower total may leave out transport, meals or entry fees.
