About this trip

Italy Classic 8N is a first trip through three major art cities: Rome, Florence and Venice. It runs for eight nights in three bases, so you unpack three times rather than once for each city. It suits first-time visitors, couples and friends who want the classic route without rushing. Rome gets three nights, Florence three and Venice two, with a Tuscan countryside day to add a change of pace.

In Rome, day two covers the Colosseum and Roman Forum with timed entry, and the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain follow on foot. Day three is Vatican City, where the Vatican Museums and St Peter's Basilica need pre-booked entry, followed by an evening in Trastevere. Day four takes you by high-speed train to Florence, and day five covers the Uffizi with a local guide. Day six is a private-vehicle day in Tuscany with a winery lunch.

Venice is the last base, with two nights and a full day on the islands, including Murano and Burano by water bus. On day nine, a private vehicle takes you to Venice Marco Polo Airport. Breakfast is included daily, and private transfers link the stops. Flights, the Schengen visa fee, travel insurance and other meals are extra.

  • Colosseum and Roman Forum with timed entry, plus the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain
  • Vatican Museums and St Peter's Basilica with pre-booked entry, and an evening in Trastevere
  • Uffizi Gallery and the Florence Duomo, with a local guide for orientation
  • A Tuscan countryside day with hill towns and a winery lunch
  • Murano and Burano on a Venice lagoon day by water bus

Day-by-day itinerary

Your trip expert can stretch, shorten or swap any day.

  1. Day 1: Arrival in Rome

Land at Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and transfer to your hotel by private vehicle. Rome's historic centre and the Termini area are the usual bases, and Termini is convenient for rail connections. Check in and rest after the journey. In the evening, take a short walk to get your bearings. Keep the first day light, because the next two days are full.

    BreakfastNight in Rome
  2. Day 2: Ancient Rome and Centro Storico

Start at the Colosseum with your pre-booked timed entry, then walk through the Roman Forum. Allow queue buffers and do not schedule a second major site straight after. Rest during the afternoon heat. Later, visit the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain on foot, as they are close together. Many restaurants close between about 15:00 and 19:00, so plan a late lunch or a panino.

    BreakfastNight in Rome
  3. Day 3: Vatican City and Trastevere

Enter the Vatican Museums with your pre-booked slot and visit St Peter's Basilica. Vatican queues can last several hours without a reservation, so keep this morning for the Vatican alone. In the evening, cross the river to Trastevere, where you can take an unhurried dinner in its streets. Use a taxi for the return if you are tired.

    BreakfastNight in Rome
  4. Day 4: Train to Florence

Take a high-speed train from Rome to Florence. Your planner confirms the service and timing when you book. Check in to your hotel near the historic centre and allow time to carry luggage from the station. In the evening, walk to the Duomo and the Piazza della Repubblica. Keep the evening light, because tomorrow starts with a timed Uffizi entry.

    BreakfastNight in Florence
  5. Day 5: Florence and the Uffizi

Start with your timed Uffizi entry, with a local guide to help with orientation. Timed tickets matter more than adding extra museums, so do not add another gallery. In the afternoon, visit the Duomo and walk through the historic centre at an easy pace. Use the rest of the day to sit at a café, shop or simply look around.

    BreakfastNight in Florence
  6. Day 6: Tuscan countryside day

A private vehicle takes you into the Tuscan countryside for the day, with hill towns, vineyards and a winery lunch. A driver is needed for rural wineries, and Florence-based day tours cannot cover every hill town comfortably. Lucca is an option if you prefer a quieter town. Return to Florence in the evening, and pack a light bag for the train the next day.

    BreakfastNight in Florence
  7. Day 7: Train to Venice

Take a train from Florence to Venice, with the service confirmed by your planner. On arrival, transfer to your hotel by water bus or on foot, depending on where you stay. Carry light bags, because bridges and steps make rolling luggage hard. Check in and walk the quieter canals before dinner. Venice works well for a slow evening after the day of travel.

    BreakfastNight in Venice
  8. Day 8: Venice and the islands

Take the water bus to Murano for a glass demonstration, then continue to Burano for its painted houses. Return to Venice in the late afternoon for St Mark's Square and the Grand Canal, after the day-trippers have left. Check the access-fee rules for the day before you go, and use a water bus rather than walking long distances with luggage.

    BreakfastNight in Venice
  9. Day 9: Departure from Venice

Enjoy breakfast and check out. Your private vehicle takes you to Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) for your flight, leaving extra time for traffic and check-in. If your flight is later in the day, use the morning for one last walk or for shopping. Pack your bags the night before, keep travel documents and the visa within easy reach, and leave a generous buffer before the flight.

Good to know

  • Eight nights in three bases, so you unpack three times rather than eight.

  • Book the Colosseum, Vatican Museums and Uffizi entries early; the Vatican queue can last several hours without a reservation.

  • Allow time for station-to-hotel walking with luggage in Rome, Florence and Venice.

  • The Tuscany day needs a private vehicle, because rural wineries are not reachable on foot or by standard tours.

  • Many restaurants close between about 15:00 and 19:00, so plan a late lunch or a snack.

  • April to June and September to October suit this route best; July and August are hot and crowded.

  • Venice may charge an access fee on some days, and bridges make rolling luggage hard, so pack light.

  • The Schengen visa is needed before travel. Normal processing is commonly about 15 calendar days, but it can take longer.

  • Flights are not included and are booked separately. Ask us about open-jaw flights to avoid backtracking.

FAQs

Italy Classic 8N: FAQs

What travellers ask about this trip. Your trip expert can answer anything else.

Is eight nights enough for Rome, Florence and Venice?

Eight nights covers the three cities at a steady pace: three nights in Rome, three in Florence with a Tuscany day, and two in Venice. It leaves little room for extra stops. If you want Milan, Lake Como or the Amalfi Coast as well, add nights so each base still gets time to breathe.

Does the Italy Classic package include flights?

No. The package is land-only and covers hotels, daily breakfast, private transfers, sightseeing as per the itinerary, timed-entry booking and visa assistance. Flights are booked separately. Delhi is the departure city with direct flights in our research, and other cities usually connect once.

Do I need a visa for this package?

Yes. Indian passport holders need a Schengen short-stay visa before travel for tourism. We provide visa assistance, but the official adult Schengen visa fee of EUR 90, plus service charges, is extra. Normal processing is commonly 15 calendar days, so apply early.

Which area should I stay in during the Rome nights?

The historic centre suits a first visit, because the Colosseum, Pantheon and Trevi Fountain are within walking distance. The Termini area is convenient for rail and airport connections. Tell your planner which you prefer, and the quote can be adjusted for the hotel category.

Can I add the Amalfi Coast to this package?

Yes, but it changes the route. The Amalfi Coast and Capri need extra travel time from Rome or Florence, so it works better as a separate route with more nights. Our Italy and Amalfi Coast honeymoon package shows one way to combine them.

When is the best time to take this package?

April to June and September to October give the most comfortable balance of weather and crowds, with daytime highs of about 19°C to 28°C. July and August are the hottest and busiest months, with highs near 31°C, so plan outdoor sightseeing for the morning.
