About this trip

Baku & Gabala 5N combines three nights in Azerbaijan's capital with two nights in Gabala, a mountain area in the Caucasus foothills. It suits friends, couples and adventure-minded travellers who want city heritage and mountain scenery in one trip. Travellers often say Gabala needs its own time, rather than a rushed add-on to a Baku stay.

Days one to three are based in Baku, with the Old City on day two and Gobustan and its mud volcanoes on day three. Day four is a private-vehicle transfer through Shamakhi, with its historic mosques, to Gabala. Day five covers Gabala's mountain scenery and the Tufandag cable car, and day six returns you to Baku for departure.

Transfers, sightseeing and airport pick-up and drop-off are by private vehicle, with daily breakfast and visa assistance included. Flights, meals not listed, entry fees, the e-Visa fee and insurance are extra. For a shorter Baku-only stay, ask your planner about a four-night Baku base instead. Day-by-day itinerary

Your trip expert can stretch, shorten or swap any day.

  1. Day 1: Arrival in Baku

Land at Heydar Aliyev International Airport and transfer to your Baku hotel by private vehicle, which typically takes 25 to 40 minutes. Check in, rest and take an easy evening walk on Baku Boulevard. Keep the evening light, because the next days cover the Old City, Gobustan and the road to Gabala.

    Night in Baku
  2. Day 2: Old City and the Caspian waterfront

Spend the morning on a walking tour of Icherisheher, the UNESCO-listed Old City, with the Maiden Tower and the Palace of the Shirvanshahs. Visit the Carpet Museum if time allows. In the evening, see the Flame Towers and walk the Caspian waterfront.

    BreakfastNight in Baku
  3. Day 3: Gobustan and the mud volcanoes

Travel by private vehicle to Gobustan National Park for prehistoric rock engravings and the Gobustan museum. Visit the nearby mud volcanoes if weather and road conditions allow. Bring water and sun protection, because outdoor time is long. Return to Baku in the late afternoon and rest.

    BreakfastNight in Baku
  4. Day 4: Shamakhi and the transfer to Gabala

Leave Baku by private vehicle and stop in Shamakhi to see its historic mosques and the vineyards on the route. Continue to Gabala in the Caucasus foothills and check in. The road journey takes time, so keep the evening relaxed and enjoy the mountain air.

    BreakfastNight in Gabala
  5. Day 5: Gabala and the Tufandag cable car

Spend the day in Gabala's mountain scenery. The Tufandag cable car is the main outdoor activity, but operations can pause in high winds, so a lowland option is kept ready. Snow activities depend on the season and are not promised outside winter. Rest at the hotel in the evening.

    BreakfastNight in Gabala
  6. Day 6: Return to Baku and departure

Enjoy breakfast in Gabala and drive back to Baku. If your flight is late, ask your planner about a short Absheron stop at Ateshgah Fire Temple or Yanar Dag on the way. Your driver takes you to Heydar Aliyev International Airport with time for check-in.

FAQs

Baku & Gabala 5N: FAQs

What travellers ask about this trip. Your trip expert can answer anything else.

Is five nights enough for Baku and Gabala?

Yes, for a steady pace. Three nights in Baku cover the Old City, Gobustan and the Boulevard, and two nights in Gabala allow a full mountain day. Travellers often say a short Baku-only stay with Gabala squeezed in feels rushed, so this package keeps the transfer day clear.

What is the drive from Baku to Gabala like?

The transfer is by private vehicle and includes a stop at Shamakhi, which has historic mosques and vineyards on the route. The road journey takes time, so the day is planned around that stop rather than full sightseeing. Your planner confirms the timing before departure.

Are Tufandag cable-car tickets included?

The Gabala day includes the Tufandag cable car as the main outdoor activity. Operations can pause in high winds, so a lowland option is kept ready. Your written quote states whether cable-car tickets are included, because ticket costs can be listed separately.

Will there be snow in Gabala?

Snow depends on the season. Snow activities are generally possible from December to March, but the package does not promise snow outside that season. Your planner can check the conditions for your dates before you book.

Are the mud volcanoes always open?

Mud-volcano visits depend on weather and road conditions, so they cannot be promised. The Gobustan day also includes rock engravings and the Gobustan museum. We use a capable vehicle for the trip and confirm the mud-volcano stop with you before the day.

When is the best time for Baku and Gabala?

April to May and September to October are the most balanced months for city and mountain touring. July and August are hot in Baku, and December to February is quieter and cooler. Snow activities in Gabala run in winter.
